Samsung Galaxy Note 7 tipped as GT-N5100 clears testing

Glimmers of a new Samsung tablet have appeared, with suggestions that the company is readying a new, 7-inch Note complete with more pen-controlled Android. The new model – teased as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 – has cropped in in two forms at the DLNA Alliance, the Samsung GT-N5100 and GT-N5110, with the same GT-N prefix as sported by the Galaxy Note II and Note 10.1.

The listings for the mystery Samsung gadgets – here and here [pdf links] – aren’t particularly enlightening, and nor is the sparse description the Alliance gives. “Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 OS upgrade version derivative model – Icecream Sandwich version – Tablet” is the only hardware detail, the GT-I9100 being the Galaxy S II, but the tablet mention would seem to belie suggestions that it’s a simple upgrade.

According to AndroidSlash, there are indications that the GT-N5100/N5110 could be a 7-inch Note to slot in-between the current “phablet” and its full-sized tablet counterpart. That would take on the iPad mini and Nexus 7, though obviously provide pen input unlike either of those rivals.

Interestingly, the GT-5100 also passed through the Wi-Fi Alliance certification program recently as well, though there’s some confusion around certification IDs. According to Google’s copy of the record, the GT-5100 is described as a “WiFi and other” tablet with WiFi 1/b/g/n (2.4/5GHz) support and WiFi Direct, though the certificate itself [pdf link] is for the GT-T8025, a different tablet.

With no record to be found at the FCC, it’s hard to know whether the Note 7 would follow in the tablet-focussed footsteps of the Note 10.1, or attempt to be a phone too, like the Note II. The two variants – N5100 and N5110 – could well indicate WiFi-only and WiFi/cellular models for mobile data use.

LG Nexus 4 stars in new leaked video

We were supposed to get a reveal of the LG Nexus 4 today, but thanks to the threat of Hurricane Sandy, that won’t be happening. Fortunately, the delay of Google’s Android event leaves more time for leaks, and today we’ve got a pretty big one to share with you. The folks over at Swedroid have posted an intriguing new video that not only gives us a look at the sleek Nexus 4, but also shows it running Android 4.2.

We have to say that we’re pretty impressed with what we see in the video. Android 4.2 looks great, and runs nice and smooth to boot. We also get a glimpse at a couple of the new features found in Android 4.2, including the new Quick Settings menu, which is accessed by pressing a button in the notifications menu.

There’s also a button for user profiles in the notification menu, which seems to confirm the rumors that claim Android 4.2 will come with support for multiple user profiles on the same device. That’s something to get excited about, as are the more general changes to the UI – the new clock, for instance, looks pretty sleek. All in all, this video does a lot to get us really excited about Android 4.2, and even better is the fact that it’s running on the Nexus 4 in this video.

Now we just have to wait for the official reveal. Google hasn’t announced when it will be holding its event, and we’ll probably be waiting at least a few days before we get word on a new date. Head down to the comments section to tell us what you think of the Nexus 4 with Android 4.2, and if you’re on the east coast, stay safe in these coming days!

Nexus 4 leaked on video, Android 4.2 gets exposed alongside new LG hardware

Nexus 4 leaked on video, Android 42 gets exposed alongside new LG hardware

There ain’t much here we haven’t seen before, but look — it’s a video. The thoroughly leaked LG Nexus 4 — which was likely scheduled to be formally unveiled today if not for Hurricane Sandy — has shown up in a 107 second video hosted up by Swedroid. We’re guessing that select international sites briefed on the handset weren’t hearing any of that “delay” stuff, and have instead let loose on the material they had access to. The hardware itself is no surprise, boasting clean lines and a minimalistic motif that looks a hair thicker than we had envisioned before. Android 4.2 looks right at home, though — as if you haven’t seen enough of that in the Nexus 10 leak. Head on past the break and press play, won’t you?

Nokia Lumia 822 and HTC 8X show up in Verizon colors, get pegged for November 8th release

Nokia Lumia 822 and HTC 8X show up in Verizon colors, get pegged for November 8th release

The Verizon-flavored Nokia Lumia 822 hasn’t exactly been camera-shy, nor has it been coy about its imminent arrival, but the details on price and availability have, as yet, not been pinned down. That is until now, according to a tip-off at WPCentral. The candid shot shows the Nokia next to an HTC 8X — both with Verizon livery. The word is that the Lumia 822 will run you $99 at launch, while the HTC 8X will command $199, both with a contract. The same source claims that these will launch on November 8th. Just in time to get that first killer app.

Update: Not satisfied with just white? Don’t worry about it — you’ll have two more shades to pick from, according to a press image uncovered by EvLeaks. A professionally captured view of the 822’s black and grey facades can be found at the more coverage link below.

Google Nexus 10 appears in painfully short video

At this point, we’re pretty sure that the LG Nexus 4, the Samsung Nexus 10, and the Nexus 7 32GB all exist. We were supposed to find out if our suspicious are correct on Monday, but thanks to the threat of Hurricane Sandy, Google has been forced to postpone its Android event that was originally scheduled for October 29. Thankfully, the folks at BriefMobile are here with a new video to whet our appetite for some Nexus 10 action, giving us a brief glimpse at the much-rumored tablet.

When we say “brief,” we mean it too – the video is a mere 5 seconds long. It would appear that the person who leaked the video to BriefMobile is a master at the art of trolling, as five seconds isn’t enough time to do much of anything. Indeed, we only see a split-second shot of the lock screen in the video, followed by the user booting Chrome. Other than that, there’s nothing, so here’s hoping that you weren’t holding out for anything big.

Still, with this video we get some solid evidence of the Nexus 10′s existence, along with a glimpse at that snazzy 2560 x 1600 display. From a display standpoint, the Nexus 10 certainly looks like an excellent tablet, and rumors have been suggesting that it has some solid innards to go along with that beautiful screen. We’ve been hearing that the Nexus 10 will be sporting a dual-core Samsung Exynos 5250 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, a five-megapixel rear camera, and 16GB of internal storage. The source of this leak also confirmed that the Nexus 10 will have GPS, so we’ve got that to look forward to as well.

BriefMobile’s leakster also said that the back of the Nexus 10 is made of polycarbonate material, and that the whole device is very slim and lightweight. It sounds like Google could have a hit on its hands with the Nexus 10, so now all we need is a reveal and we’ll be set. Even though that reveal won’t be coming on Monday as originally planned, you can bet that Google will want to host its event as soon as possible once Hurricane Sandy subsides. Keep it tuned here to SlashGear for more information!

Nexus 4 priced at £390 by purported Carphone Warehouse in-store display placard

Purported Nexus 4 instore display placards list price at 390 euros Carphone Warephone leak, l

Oh, Carphone Warehouse — it just can’t seem to keep what it knows about the LG / Google Nexus 4 under lock and key. Just days after briefly listing the phone on its website, purported in-store displays for the yet unannounced device have leaked out to Android Authority. While essentially of the details are the same as what we saw last (1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 SoC, 8MP cam, 12-hour talk time rating, etc.), the listing reveals that the “sim-free” phone itself will sell for £390 (about $504) — previously we’d only seen the per-month pricing at £31, which is also found here. There’s no mention of that October 30th sale date this time, and it would seem unlikely now given that Google’s had to indefinitely postpone its NYC-based Android event for the 29th due to hurricane Sandy. For now, you can get more details from the source link below.

Google Nexus 10 leaks: Android 4.2, 1.7GHz Exynos 5250, 2,560 x 1,600 resolution (update: video)

Google Nexus 10 leaks Android 42, Exynos 5250 17GHz, 2,560 x 1,600 resolution

Unless we’re looking at one of the most elaborately photographed fakes in the world, this is the Nexus 10. With the Nexus 7 apparently going over quite well at just $199, it was only ever a matter of time before the Nexus family expanded to house a 10-incher. With Google’s own Vic Gundotra posting images from a unit that he’s using at some exotic locale, it seems that another unit has slipped beneath the camera at BriefMobile. The site has managed to apprehend one of the 10.1-inch slates, and in turn has discovered quite the bounty of information.

Internally, there’s (reportedly) a dual-core, Cortex-A15-based 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos 5250, a Mali-T604 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (though no microSD expansion slot), a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, NFC / WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a Super AMOLED panel with a drool-worthy 2,560 x 1,600 screen resolution — yeah, that’s well into “Retina” territory at 298.9 pixels per inch. You may recognize that Exynos 5250 from Google’s recently released $249 Chromebook, but here, it’s being used to push Android 4.2. Those hungry for more can visit the source link, but don’t go in hoping to extract an asking price.

Update: Well, if the pictures weren’t enough, BriefMobile has just popped a five-second long video of the device, which you can glance at after the break. Don’t get too excited, however, as it’s merely just someone going from the home screen into Chrome.

Nexus 10 caught snapping Google exec’s holiday photos

Google’s Vic Gundotra has been doing some Samsung Nexus 10 teasing, using the unannounced but broadly-expected Android tablet to share some holiday snaps on Google+. Gundotra does not mention the tablet by name, but the Nexus 10 is listed as the identifier of the camera under the photo details on a number of shots. The resolution is given as roughly 3-megapixels, though since Google+ automatically resizes shots automatically uploaded, that’s not necessarily the full resolution of the Nexus 10′s camera itself.

In fact, according to previous leaks, we’re expecting something along the line of an 8-megapixel camera on the rear of the Nexus 10. It’s also certain to have a front-facing camera for video calls and vanity shots.

It’s not the first time early Google hardware has been previewed, unofficially, on the company’s social network. Images taken with the Google Glass wearable computer have also been spotted, ahead of Google employees officially releasing stills and video samples shot with the headset. Meanwhile, EXIF data has proved useful in flagging up unannounced devices on other online galleries, though since it’s relatively straightforward to fake, it’s generally taken with a pinch of salt.

Gundotra could well be pranking the tech world with faked image data, but given we’re expecting the Nexus 10 to be officially unveiled early next week, that seems less than likely. Meanwhile, what appears to be the Nexus 10′s quick start guide popped up online yesterday.

We’ll be with Google at the event to bring back all the details, believed to also include the new LG Nexus 4 smartphone.

Samsung Nexus 10 quick start manual spotted

We’ve heard whispers that claim Google will be unveiling the Samsung-made Nexus 10 tablet during its event on October 29, but today we’ve got some photographic evidence to back those claims up. Images of a Nexus 10 quick start manual have been posted to Korean site Seeko, and through them, we get an idea of what the Nexus 10 will look like. It doesn’t look too terribly different from the more famous Nexus 7, with the biggest difference obviously being the 10-inch screen.

With the images, we also get to see where the various ports and buttons will be positioned on the outside of the device. Other than the diagram, that’s pretty much it – there’s an image of the cover of the manual, but as you can imagine, that doesn’t give away too much information. Still, this serves as evidence that Google will launch a brand new Nexus tablet during its event on Monday, provided this manual hasn’t been faked of course.

If the manual is real, it means that Google has a lot on deck for its Android show on the 29th. It’s there that we should finally get a reveal of the long-rumored LG Nexus 4 phone, as well as the 32GB Nexus 7, which has been spotted in the wild plenty of times before today. If all of these devices exist, then we should be in for one exciting show come Monday.

As for the Nexus 10, it sounds like this new tablet is primed to steal some thunder from the iPad. We’ve been hearing that the Nexus 10 will be running at 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, which gives the tablet a 299 ppi pixel density, and if that’s true then we should have quite the tablet on our hands. Keep it tuned here to SlashGear, as we’ll be at Google’s event on Monday to tell you all you need to know!

LG Open webOS smart TV planned for CES 2013 as Google TV sidelined

LG is tipped to be developing a webOS-based smart TV, using the open source platform in favor of Google TV, after concerns about the Android-base OS’ momentum. The deal has seen LG dispatch engineers and prototype hardware to HP’s Sunnyvale Gram facility, webOS Nation‘s source claims, with the goal of showcasing the first models at CES 2013 in January.

Although both LG and HP apparently signed an agreement some time ago – back in June, in fact – to collaborate on the project, there are still some wrinkles yet to be ironed out. Most obvious (and likely to actively frustrate users) is boot time, with Open webOS taking some time to load up; tablet and phone users might be willing to suffer such a delay, but those settling down on the couch are probably not.

To address that, LG’s L9 motherboards – which use a dualcore processor, and are found at the heart of existing LG smart TVs – have been sent over to HP’s engineers for testing and trialling software tweaks. What could end up being the solution, it’s said, is a TV that only shuts off the display when put into standby, with the processor actually remaining on in the background for a subsequent instant-resume.

Hardware isn’t the only challenge, however. Open webOS would replace LG’s NetCast platform, and needs smart TV-focused apps to cater for that challenge. Netflix is one cited example, with a player apparently being build in Enyo (the platform’s application framework), as well as other web-connected widgets and apps for YouTube, Pandora, and other services.

As for why LG is pushing ahead with Open webOS rather than sticking with Google TV as it previously announced, it’s a complex one. The Korean company is apparently uncomfortable with Google’s demands for using its platform, and turned off by its slow adoption overall; meanwhile, the ever-present specter of Apple and the longstanding chatter of an Apple smart TV has pressured LG into taking precautionary steps of its own.

Those steps will need to be shared with HP/Gram, of course, but with the $1.2bn acquisition of Palm still yet to produce tangible benefits to pacify shareholders, Open webOS poses more potential for tinkering and modification.
