LEGO Mecha Charizard: Poké Kaiju

I’m not sure if Flickr member Zane_Houston intended to make a reference to Mechagodzilla, but that bad dude immediately came to mind when I saw Zane’s LEGO Mecha Charizard. Mega Evolution? Pfff. I think Mecha Evolution would be way better.

These images don’t do justice to Zane’s creation. You should head to his Flickr page to see Mecha Charizard in all his glory.

I Need to Own This Knight Rider Lego Set

I Need to Own This Knight Rider Lego Set

It’s a tale as old as time itself. The love between a man and his artificially-intelligent car. One is KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a badass, snarky, rear-wheel drive, modified Pontiac Trans Am; the other’s a heavily chest-haired, 80s sex bomb. Together, they’re Lego Knight Rider.

LEGO Robot Strips DRM Off Kindle Books

Now here is a LEGO robot that you would definitely look upon in awe – it happens to be able to strip DRM right off Kindle books, now how about that? The way it does so is rather magical, although no pixie dust was, and will be, involved. Not only that, this unique LEGO robot goes around things without breaking any of the law, so theoretically speaking, it is completely legal as it clicks through the pages of a Kindle book manually, signalling a computer to snap a photo of the E Ink display, perform some OCR move, which results in a DRM-free copy of the text.

This is the brainchild of a certain Peter Purgathofer of Vienna University of Technology, where this particular project is not meant to irk the folks over at Amazon and the e-book author, but rather, to deliver an art piece. According to Purgathofer, he has faith that Amazon’s original promises concerning the loaning and reselling books have been broken, and that the publishing industry themselves are in cahoots with Amazon who have bolstered copyright law. Purgathofer continued, “The DIY kindle scanner is an art installation reflecting this loss of rights Jeff Bezos first defended for us, but then chose to remove. It also is a statement about the futility of DRM. Please note that this is a project i did in my private time, as a private person, and it reflects my private views. I do not consider it part of my work at the Vienna University of Technology.”

LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 Keylight makes Artoo all the more indispensable

lego-r2d2-keylightEveryone’s favorite Astromech droid, R2-D2, has saved the galaxy a fair number of times, never mind that he is but a hunk of metal bits and pieces with relevant circuitry within without a single midichlorian flowing through its body. Still, it has managed to see the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, and managed to survive through the Great Jedi Purge and to see Luke Skywalker redeem his father, Darth Vader, at the end of the day, marking the end of the Emperor’s reign (in the movies at least).

Here we are with the $11.99 LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 Keylight which might not save the galaxy, but what it will do is this – it is capable of sending some light to your handbag, allowing you to search through its contents in a cinema or when you have arrived at home and need to dig for your keys. The light can be posed using R2-D2′s legs and feet, and unfortunately, it is not powered by the Force, but rather, it will run on batteries. The LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 Keylight happens to be an official Star Wars merchandise and will be powered by a couple of CR2025 3V batteries.

LEGO And Belkin Team Up For iPhone 5 Case

LEGO And Belkin Team Up For iPhone 5 Case

Back in the day before smartphones and tablets, kids used to play with LEGO to the point where even in our late twenties and early thirties, playing with LEGO is still an enjoyable past time. Well if you have some loose LEGO pieces lying around, LEGO and Belkin have announced a partnership in which the toy maker and case manufacturer have created an official LEGO iPhone 5 case. Given that this is an official LEGO product, it means that it will be compatible with other LEGO pieces you might have lying around the house, thus allowing you to customize your iPhone 5 casing in a rather unique way. Granted the end result could be rather bulky and impractical, but at the same time we’re pretty sure no one else has your design.

The case has been described as being made of a “co-molded hard plastic back for scratch-resistance with a semi-flexible outer frame for shock-absorption” and will set you back $39.99. For those interested you can hit up Belkin’s websiteif you’d like to get your hands on it, or if you’d like to see some of the example cases that have been built with it, hit up Belkin’s Facebook page for some photos!
