If you’ve been reading Technabob for any length of time, you probably know that we’re huge fans of LEGO and LEGO paraphernalia. Now, it turns out that Hollywood is jumping onto the LEGO bandwagon with the upcoming release of The LEGO Movie.
It’s the first full-length flick based on the LEGO universe, and is being directed by the team behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the 21 Jump Street Movie. It actually looks pretty amusing from the first teaser trailer that was just released earlier this evening…
While it may look like stop-motion from the trailer above, it’s actually all CGI, which is a little bit disappointing, but I have to say they did a good job recreating the look of hand-animated minifigs, which have been such a popular thing on YouTube over the years.
The movie follows the story of Emmet, a LEGO minifig who finds himself in the unlikely position of being mistaken as the most extraordinary person in the land of LEGO, and must help save the world from an evil tyrant. In addition to a cast of thousands of minifigs, the movie stars Will Ferrell, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman, and is expected to snap together in time for a February 2014 release.
In summer 2012 the news broke
If you’ve been following Technabob for a while, you might recall Evan Bacon, the teenager who’s built a number of epic LEGO models of superheroes. The 15-year-old has recently expanded his collection of life-size characters, adding Captain James Tiberius Kirk to the mix.
Evan modeled LEGO Kirk after William Shatner’s original character, using over 18,000 individual bricks (glued together to make sure it doesn’t come apart.) While it measures nearly six-feet tall, it weighs just 90 pounds, which dare I say is much less than Shatner ever did as an adult, even when he was in good enough shape to fight the Gorn.
Evan showed off Kirk at this year’s Comicpalooza in Houston, TX. So what’s next for young Evan? He’s currently working on a life-size Wonder Woman, which he plans on bringing to the RTX Convention this July in Austin. If you happen to be in the area, you should check it out.
You’ve got to wonder what Evan’s room looks like at home. Is it filled with these creations? Do they sit at the dinner table? Is he building his own LEGO army?

Posted in: Today's ChiliLEGO enthusiast Ben Caulkins made this sweet LEGO model of the Normandy SR-2, Commander Shepard’s flying base in Mass Effect 2. The ship is almost 4 ft. long and has a 19″ wingspan. It needs a Garrus minifig to calibrate its weapons.
I don’t know why I didn’t notice it until now, but the Normandy kind of looks like it has a Volus mask on. It’s not so apparent in Caulkin’s model though.
Head to Caulkin’s Flickr page to see more pictures of his Normandy model. He will also show it off at the Brickworld exhibit in Chicago this week.

Posted in: Today's ChiliThere were a lot of cool cars in 1980s TV shows and movies. We must have been obsessed with cars in that era, because you don’t get these sort of iconic rides anymore. Ralph from Brothers Brick has created some awesome homages to TV and movie vehicles of that era and they look amazing.
They look so good, I wish we could buy each as a set and put them together ourselves. These cars even have LEGO characters to go with them. All of our favorites are here: the GMC Vandura from The A-Team, Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, KITT from Knight Rider, and The General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard.
Holy Duke boys! Daisy is stacked!
Head on over to Ralph’s Flickr page for more pics of these awesome LEGO rides.
