Awesome Lego Iron Man Shows Why They Need to Make a Line of Superhero Action Figure
Posted in: Today's Chili First it was the Lego Batman action figure. Then it was Lego Spiderman. And now Gizmodo friend Michael McCooey has created another awesome, fully posable Lego superhero action figure: Iron Man. More »
We’ve featured several cameras that were made using LEGO bricks (or something similar to LEGO), but this camera separates itself from the pack because it’s just one brick. Also it’s not made out of a LEGO brick. At least they’re stackable!
Simply called the Block, it’s made by Chobi Cam, a Japanese company that’s known for its tiny cameras. The Block can take colored or black and white 1.3MP still images and capture 720×480 video at 24fps. Here are clips taken with the Block and uploaded to YouTube by JTT:
You’ll need a microSDHC card to store your data, and a USB port to charge the camera.
You can order the Chobi Cam Block camera from Japan Trend Shop for $73 (USD), while Detective Conan wannabes in Japan should order it from JTT.

A few months ago Mike McCooey wowed the Web with his poseable LEGO Spider-Man. Now he’s back with another poseable LEGO superhero, and with your support, perhaps LEGO can make it an official product. It’s an amazing build of Tony Stark in his Iron Man Mark VII armor.
Mike says that while his Iron Man figure is not as poseable as his Spidey figure, it still has over 50 points of articulation. It also has six independent light bricks: one in his head, chest, one on each head and one on each foot. Iron Man may be more fragile in his bricky suit, but he’s still packing heat. He has wrist-mounted lasers, thigh- and shoulder-mounted missiles and more.
You really should check out Mike’s Flickr page to see the details on this figure. Mike has also setup a LEGO Cuusoo campaign. You know how that works: if his campaign gets 10,000 votes, LEGO will think about making it official. Otherwise LEGO’s not even gonna think about thinking about it.

Despite numerous unofficial builds, fans have been waiting for an honest to god authentic Back to the Future LEGO set for years. And now it looks like we will get our wish thanks to LEGO crowdsourcing site Cuusoo. LEGO has announced that an official BTTF is now in the works.
The Back to the Future Cuusoo campaign was launched over a year ago by a team of LEGO builders, and since then the project has gathered over 10,000 supporters, and was selected by LEGO out of its Summer 2012 review of Cuusoo finalists. Three sets were proposed in the original campaign, including a standard DeLorean from BTTF with a Marty figure, skateboard, and a Doc figure. The DeLorean with hover modification from BTTF2 along with Marty, a hoverboard, and Doc in his future outfit. There was also a western-themed BTTF3 set. At this point, we don’t know which version LEGO will release. The set will be called the 21103 Back to the Future Time Machine.
I’m betting it will be the standard DeLorean, though it would be awesome if LEGO included parts for you to reconfigure it into different versions. The final model will become available sometime in mid 2013, so we’ll have to wait a while to see the final model.
One other cool tidbit about this model. Since Cuusoo contributors get a 1% commission on any LEGO sets sold that come out of the process, and Team BTTF has decided to donate their earnings to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Lego Water Bottle
Posted in: Today's ChiliEveryone loves to play around with Lego, don’t they? After all, the extremely precise Lego bricks from Denmark magically stack up and connect to one another (where possible) without being off by a bit. There has been many pretenders to the throne, but none so far have been able to usurp Lego from its numero uno position. Well, an iconic part of Lego would be the Lego minifigs, where the top of their yellow heads have this connecting bit for you to add some other pieces of Lego to it, like an antenna for comic relief. Why not let the whole world know just how engrossed you are with Lego by bringing the $16.49 Lego Water Bottle to work?
With the Lego Water Bottle, you can basically share all of your adventures with the head of the iconic Lego minifig. To clean it is a breeze, just like how you would separate two Lego pieces that are stuck together. All you need to do is unscrew the bottom and you will gain access to the innards that delivers a thorough wash. Since it is PVC, BPA and Phthalate free, you know that the Lego Water Bottle would be perfect for your little ones – and you, even. Just don’t microwave this 9.75″ tall water bottle and you’re good to go, although it is food and dishwasher safe.

Lego M&M Sorter
Posted in: Today's Chili
When it comes to multi-colored candy like M&Ms and Skittles, some folks just love to eat a particular color. Sorting them out manually is definitely a pin when you think about it, so why not enlist the help of modern day technology to get the job done? This is where the Lego M&M Sorter comes in handy, where it is built using a Lego Mindstorms set, relying on its fair share of color sensors in order get the right color of M&Ms for you to enjoy. We have seen a Skittles sorting machine in the past, just in case you were wondering.
I am quite sure that the kids will definitely be able to appreciate a machine of such capability, where it will be able to leave harried parents some time to take a breather, instead of manually picking out the color of their choice. Definitely one of the more creative uses of a Lego Mindstorms set. So far, in your experience with Lego Mindstorms, just what kind of concoctions have you managed to come up with that are able to at least rival this unique creation?

While it’s nothing more than a placebo, believe it or not, some people actually argue over which color M&Ms taste better. If the latter speaks to your spirit and you’re tired of manually filtering unwanted sweets from your holiday spread, then you might be in luck. A crafty tinkerer who goes by the YouTube handle “Nxt1engineer” has shared a clever contraption that sorts M&Ms by shade. Using tone-detecting sensors, this Lego-powered machine separates and dispenses the popular candy-coated snack, ensuring that everyone receives their favorite hue without any fuss. It’s not entirely clear how you might be able to bring this awesome apparatus home, but you can at least see it in action — check it out in the video after the break.

The first Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer was released quite a while back, but if you’re a fan of LEGO and you’re wondering what GTA might look like if it were to be made using LEGO parts, the folks at machinima have put together a GTA 5 trailer using LEGO, and according to them, they have attempted to recreate the scenes as faithfully as possible, but we guess you can be the judge of that. It’s pretty cool, not mention pretty cute at the same time which kind of seems to go against the nature of GTA in the first place. In any case if you’ve got a few minutes to spare, you can check it out in the video above, and if you’d like a comparison, you can view the original GTA 5 trailer after the break. What do you guys think? Close enough? (more…)
