This Lego Drum Machine Turns Bricks Into Beats

If you’re more adept at playing with blocks than fiddling with a bunch of knobs and buttons, then you might need Mark Crosbie’s SoundMachine. This sequencer lets you assemble a funky Midi beat using nothing but Lego—and maybe a crude sense of rhythm. More »

LEGO FunHaus is Really a Fun House

As you know, we love our LEGO around here. Every time I think I’ve seen it all, my faith in the creativity of humankind is restored by yet another LEGO build. This particular construction was inspired by the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muerto, or The Day of the Dead.

LEGO-maniac Brickbaron created this bright and colorful scene of a fun house, loaded with happy (and somewhat terrified) minifigs as they make their way in and out of the FunHaus (which, coincidentally isn’t Spanish at all).

It’s embellished with skulls and a facade loaded with eyeballs and chompy teeth to lure you in. It’s also got an awesome moving scene in the middle, which you can check out in the video clip below:

Brickbaron also says the scene was highly influenced by the works of artist Pooch, and I suggest that you check out his website for some cool and unusual paintings. Be sure to check out the hi-res images of FunHaus over on Flickr too.

Adult Fans of LEGO Get to Play: No Kids Allowed!

I’ve loved LEGO bricks since I was a little kid. I’ve never had the time or patience to build some of the more complex and gigantic creations that some of you guys have, but I’m still a huge fan. Now adult LEGO fans have an opportunity to play with their bricks without feeling out of place.

The guys at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago are hosting their first ever No-Kids-Allowed night, just for adult fans of LEGO. The event is only open to guests aged 18 or older, and will include an opportunity to learn at an advanced model-builder workshop, as well as to participate in Halloween speed-build and creative challenges to win cool LEGO prizes.

Participants are also encouraged to bring their own models to show off at the event, and to dress up for the costume contest. I can only imagine how many Minifig costumes are going to turn out for the party.

The $19 registration fee will also grant unlimited access to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago (and its over 3 million bricks) for the night.

The event takes place at the Streets of Woodfield, 601 N. Martingale Road in Schamburg, IL, from 6:30 to 9:30pm on Monday, October 29, 2012. Register in advance at www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com, and annual pass holders get in for free. So leave the kids at home, and play with some LEGO like a grown-up.

LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles on the Snap Shell

Growing up I was a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Though I wasn’t a fan in the slightest of the horribly cheesy live-action TMNT movie. I was a bit excited when I heard that Nickelodeon was coming out with a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon and that cartoon has turned out to be impressively popular. To go along with that new cartoon, Nickelodeon and that purveyor of the geekiest of toys, LEGO, have announced new LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets.

The sets will bring Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo to life as LEGO minifigs, complete with little weapons.

The LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets will include a series of vehicles and scenes building sets. The first set being shown off is #79104 – The Shellraiser Street Chase – complete with pizza delivery truck

The sets are currently being shown off at the New York Comic-Con through October 14th, and will arrive in stores in North America and the U.K. in January 2013.

LEGO Batcave: Where the Block Knight Returns

We’ve already seen a LEGO version of Batman’s base. But while that one opted for a vertical build, Carlyle Livingston II and Wayne Hussey chose to make their Batcave sprawl lengthwise. It’s crammed with wonderful details just waiting to be discovered.

According to The Brothers Brick, the diorama is made of over 20,000 parts and weighs over 100lbs. Some of its parts – such as the Batmobile’s turntable and the costume wall – are moved by motors to evoke Batman’s cutting edge technology. Then there’s the excellent lighting that sets the gloomy mood. It took Livingston and Hussey a total of 800 hours over 12 weeks to finish the Batcave.
