The letterpress was a huge leap forward for mass communication when Johannes Gutenberg perfected the moveable type machine way back in the 1450s. These days, it’s considered a specialty craft. But this tiny letterpress is thoroughly modern: It’s assembled with parts printed on a standard 3D printer. Whoa.

Before computers became the sole progenitors of almost all our visual artifacts, printing was a labor-intensive task that involved applying incredible pressure to inked blocks using machines weighing thousands of pounds. At the Common Press, in the basement of the University of Pennsylvania’s Fine Arts Building, artists are still using this outdated technology—right down to ink from the same company Ben Franklin used.

If someone pisses you off, let them go. Don’t curse, don’t fight, don’t even hope that they’ll trip and fall flat on their faces as they walk away. Instead, go home and whip out your set of Calligraphuck Profane Letterpress Cards.
