Google Nexus 7 and 4 tipped for spring refresh in White and HD

This week the Google Nexus lineup has been tipped to see a slight overhaul for its second coming, with hardware upgrades coming to the Nexus 7 tablet and the Nexus 4 smartphone in large and small doses. The Google Nexus 7 tablet has been on the market since July of last year as it was first shown off at Google I/O 2012, the company’s official developer conference, while the Nexus 4 has only been on the market for a few months – still having supply issues as we speak. The upgrades come to the color in which you’ll be able to pick up the smartphone and the sharpness of the display of the tablet.

While it is odd that the Samsung-made Nexus 10 has not been tipped for any sort of upgrade (beyond this one) for this Winter/Spring 2013 season, the Nexus 7 (made by ASUS) has seen its fair share of competition since its initial $199 reveal. This price point and the fact that it’s got a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor under the hood have all but blasted the machine into space with popularity, prompting waves of competitive 7-inch tablets (and the like) to attempt to syphon the cash. The upgrade tipped by Digitimes suggests that this machine will have an upgrade from its 1280 x 800 pixel display to an immensely dense 1728 x 1080 or even 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Meanwhile the Google Nexus 4 (made by LG) has been selling like hotcakes since it was first put on the market at the end of 2012. Here near the end of January 2013, the device is just now seeing availability flicker on (and more often off) online and in retail locations across the USA. Have a peek at a column by the name of “Why the Nexus 4 is selling like mad by Robert Nelson on Android Community to see why this beast continues to kick the market’s butt.

The newest word on the Nexus 4 is that it’ll have a white case in its next release. That’s it, that’s all, that’s all there is. That tip was sent to PhoneArena with the photo you see above – look pretty real to you? Looks pretty real to us – expect that device to be appearing in that color before the second quarter of this year rolls around – bank on it!

White Google Nexus 4 May Actually Exist

White Google Nexus 4 May Actually Exist

Google’s Nexus 4 has been playing hard-to-find for some time now, but suddenly became available through a Best Buy, Wirefly and even Google Play which we’re sure many of you already placed your orders for the device, especially after reading out review. But it looks like a new Nexus 4 has stepped into the smartphone ring and it might be bringing a sexy white coat to the party.

An anonymous tipster sent Phone Arena an image that may be the long-rumored white Nexus 4. The image shows the back of what looks to be the white Nexus 4 along with the black Nexus 4′s distinctive reflective pattern on the bottom right of the device. The LED flash also has a chrome ring surrounding it, which so far appear to be the only two differences between the white Nexus 4 and a black one.

The EXIF data of the device reveals the image was taken with an LG Optimus G last week, which may lead to the leak to come directly from LG, or it might just be a mere coincidence.

Nexus 4 returns to the Google Play Store

After a long, long wait, the much-loved Nexus 4 is back in stock at the Google Play Store. Google and LG have been experiencing some stock issues with the handset due to incredibly high demand, leaving potential buyers without many more options. The phone has been available at T-Mobile, but those who wanted to go straight through Google had to wait weeks for the handset to become available again.

Luckily, today’s the day, so if you’ve been holding out for it to return to the Google Play Store, you’ll probably want to head over there sooner rather than later. After all, there’s no telling if the Nexus 4 will sell out again, but with so many people waiting to buy one, it might not be long before stock is tight. At the time of this writing, the listings for both the 8GB and 16GB variants say orders will be shipping out in 1-2 weeks.

Hopefully that shipping time doesn’t get extended as more people order a Nexus 4, but you never know. The Nexus 4 proved to be incredibly popular upon release, packing in solid hardware at a price that’s too hard to ignore for many smartphone users. The 8GB Nexus 4 only costs $299.99, while the 16GB model is $349.99 – keep in mind that you’re getting an unlocked Nexus 4 when you order directly from Google, so that sweetens the deal further.

The Nexus 4 offers a 4.7-inch display at 1280×760 resolution, 2GB of RAM, a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, and a 8MP rear-facing camera, so it’s pretty easy to see why folks are going nuts over it. It’s also one of the few devices to be running Android 4.2, and having the latest version of Android along for the ride isn’t bad either. You can grab one now by navigating over to the Google Play Store.

Nexus 4 Hits The US And Germany

Google Nexus 4 Review 01 640x426 Nexus 4 Hits The US And GermanySay, you have been on the lookout for the LG Nexus 4 for the longest time, but have yet to really manage to find a time and place in the current continuum where stock of the Nexus 4 is available for the masses. Well, I guess your tough luck has finally run out at this point in time, at least where the Nexus 4 is concerned, as it has been reported that the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean powered device is now available over at Germany, in addition to Google Play for folks living in the US.

Let us keep our fingers crossed that this would mean that other countries will not be lagging too far behind both US and Germany. Assuming that the Nexus 4 finally pops up in your neighborhood, will you be one of the first few to rush out and place an order, or do you have your eyes set on something newer, although that will not come with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in tow? Decisions, decisions, it can be tough being an adult at times. Perhaps this is the opportunity for you to introduce your other half to the wonders of Android this coming Valentine’s Day by gifting your beau the Nexus 4, hmmm?

LG’s Nexus 4 Finally Returns To The U.S. Google Play Store

There are whole host of new smartphones waiting for their time to shine at Mobile World Congress (not to mention an event or two before the big show), but you’re in luck if you’re a domestic Android fan smitten with LG and Google’s Nexus 4. The hard-to-obtain handset first reappeared in the German Google Play Store earlier today, and now those of you in the U.S. can finally purchase one again too.

Google caught some flack when the Nexus 4 first launched because of the tumultuous process of actually ordering one, not to mention subsequent issues with stock. It eventually got to the point where Google and LG representatives started playing the blame game, insinuating (and sometimes proclaiming) that the fault lay with the other party. In the end though, LG remains committed to cranking out Nexus 4s and it just may be that the Nexus drought is over for good. That is of course, until the oft-rumored Nexus 5 (also supposedly crafted by LG) makes its official appearance — murmurs from the rumor mill point to a possible introduction at Google’s next I/O conference in May.

On the off-chance that you’ve read this far and still haven’t clicked over to the Google Play Store to place an order, here are direct links for the 8GB and 16GB models so have at it! At this point, Google claims that units will start shipping within the next two weeks, but The Verge claims that shipments will hit doorsteps even sooner than that. Is Google under-promising and planning to over-deliver? Let’s hope so — those first few hours of Nexus availability definitely left a bad taste in some people’s mouths.

Update: Our own Darrell Etherington bugged me to update this post with the news that you can now get Nexus 4s in Canada. So there.”

LG outs the U560 Ultrabook and its gorgeous 15.6″ screen

Set for an Korea launch only the U560 will hopefully be later available in other countries as well.

LG U560 Ultrabook Gets Launched

LG U560 LG U560 Ultrabook Gets LaunchedJust as we were about to wrap-up the entire day, LG took the crunch time and unveiled the U560 ultrabook. Although the details are short, the translated press release reveals that the U560 ultrabook sports a 15.6-inch display with a yet to be detailed resolution that LG says can deliver crisp and natural colors. It will be powered by Intel’s third-generation Core i5 3337U processors and a high performance graphics that appears to be from NVIDIA, as noted by its support page. It will also offer a dual-storage solution of SSDs and HDDs, three USB ports, and HDMI connectivity. The U560 ultrabook is clearly launching in South Korea for now, but we’re hoping that it will also come out knocking at European and U.S. doors pretty soon. Pricing has yet to be announced as well.

There have already been a few 15-inch Ultrabooks that have pushed the very limits of the thin-and-light category. Still, LG wants its turn at bending the rules. Its new U560 packs a 15.6-inch display and an optical drive that, together, contribute to the PC’s 4.3-pound weight and 0.82-inch thickness — really, it’s a traditional laptop in a slimmer than usual package. Not that we’ll complain too much when it involves an IPS-based LCD, a 1.8GHz Core i5, dedicated graphics (a support page suggests NVIDIA) and both a spinning hard disk as well as solid-state storage. The U560’s launch is limited to South Korea so far, although we wouldn’t be surprised to see Europe and other territories get their turn.

LG VS870 Arrives At The FCC

lg vs970 fcc wpc LG VS870 Arrives At The FCCWell, what do we have here? It was sometime in the late summer of 2012 when AT&T revealed that they brought out the LG Escape late last summer as a low-cost Android powered smartphone, sporting a better battery than usual and performance that you would not complain at a price which you paid for. Well, the FCC has just tested another device, which could very well be a Verizon version of the LG VS870. The LG Escape from AT&T is known as the P870, and the Verizon-bound version will offer support for the CDMA and LTE networks of Verizon.

It seems that this very handset has also made its way to the Wireless Power Consortium, which drops additional hints that Qi wireless charging capability will also be thrown into the mix. Having said that, we do wonder just what other goodies that the Verizon version will carry over the LG Escape from AT&T, and I guess we will just have to play the waiting game.
