LG Magic Remote updated, switch channels by writing numbers

LG Magic Remote heads to Android, switch channels by writing numbers

You love your LG Magic Remote, but you’re sick of pushing buttons to switch channels, right? Well, that’s kinda weird, but thankfully LG doesn’t agree with us, today detailing a previously revealed update to its Magic Remote that allows you to change the channel by writing numbers. Sure, it probably takes less time to actually push a button to switch a channel, but who’re we to judge your channel changing preferences? The Android version of LG’s app already has the update, and we expect we’ll see it arrive elsewhere very soon.

OnLive extending LG partnership to G3 series televisions

OnLive extending LG partnership to G3 series televisions

Are you way into cloud gaming and own an LG Smart TV of the G3 series variety? You’re in luck, as OnLive this morning announced support for that very line of Google TV-powered LG televisions, bringing a library of “over 300 titles” to the platform. The G2 series already got that support back in November, if you recall, but it appears that OnLive’s reach is expanding across a variety of LG Smart televisions. Should you wish to get in on the action, you’ll need a Universal OnLive Wireless controller to actually play any of the games available. We’ll be giving it a look later on this week during CES 2013 to see what’s different — if anything — from OnLive’s presence on other platforms.

All the Best Stuff from a Mildly Horrible CES Press Event

For better or worse, CES Unveiled is a thing. We actually find it terribly convenient—dozens of gadgetmakers under one roof. And we found some cool stuff too. Huzzah! We braved the throngs and fried-food-vapors for you, my dears. Here’s the best stuff we saw: More »

LG 84-inch Ultra HD 4k 3D TV Eyes-on

In case you haven’t been following along with the latest and greatest TVs, the hottest new thing is 4k. Also being called Ultra HD for its eye-numbing ultra-high def resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. Back in late October LG launched their first 4K TV in the US, the 84-inch $20,000 TV and we got a few quick pictures of it in action.

Here at CES 2013 the brand new LG 84-inch Ultra HD 3D TV was taking up some much needed real estate, and LG was equipping our eager eyes with their new lightweight 3D glasses — no syncing required. The bad boy you see above is officially called the LG 84LM9600. It’s really hard to explain it without you seeing for yourself. The images are exceptionally clear and so realistic I feel like I could touch them.

Then don’t get us started on 3D. Many of our quick hands-on pictures are of the impressive TV blasting 3D images so they don’t quite do it justice, but it really is something to look at. With over 8 million pixels — 4 times that of regular “HD TVs” — the Ultra HD 4K TV brings in-home entertainment to an entirely new level.

In case you missed the launch date news, this TV certainly isn’t cheap. It’s available as of late late 2012 at your favorite retailer for the low price of only $20,000. Or basically a nice new car. As you can imagine, most content available today doesn’t come in those crazy high 4K resolutions — but they’ll be available soon. Get that GoPro Hero 3 Black edition and shoot some Ultra HD video for your enjoyment. Who’s buying?

LG Ultra HD TV Going For $20,000

lg ultrahd smart tv 1 LG Ultra HD TV Going For $20,000[CES 2013] Here we are at the CES Unveiled showfloor, and apart from jostling with numerous other journalists for some grub, there are also photo opportunities with beautiful models that cannot be missed. One of CES Unveiled’s undoubted starlets would be the LG 84LM9600, in other words, an 84-inch behemoth of a Smart TV that does 3D visuals as well, where it boasts of Ultra HD, otherwise known as “4K” resolution with more than 8 million pixels in tow (which would be four times the resolution of the Full HD TV in your living room that you are extremely proud of owning). This bad boy even comes with LG’s Resolution Upscaler Plus that will up-scale any content to near 4K resolution, which is a natural progression of Blu-ray players in the past that upscaled regular DVDs to pseudo-Full HD resolution.

Other features include Cinema 3D and Smart TV capabilities, in addition to a 2.2-channel sound system that delivers a lavish audio experience. Above the din over at CES Unveiled, it is difficult to ascertain that particular claim, so you will have to fork out $19,999 to purchase one and find out for yourself. Enjoy the photo gallery after the break.

LG’s New 84-Inch 4K 3D TV: Eyegasm

We just got to spend a little time gazing on LG’s new 84LM9600. It’s 84-inches and packs in 3840×2160 pixels for 4K resolution. Locally dimmed LED backlighting keeps balances brightness without light bleeding in from the sides. And it’s 3D. But whatever about the specs, how does it look? More »
