LG to unveil new Google TV devices at CES 2013

lg googletv 640x394 LG to unveil new Google TV devices at CES 2013If regular television no longer holds any interest to you, then perhaps you might be interested in switching it up with Google TV devices. The good news is that if you are, LG has announced that come CES 2013 (which will be taking place in a couple of weeks), the South Korean company will be taking the wraps of two brand new Google TV devices. As you can see in the image above, these new Google TVs by LG appear to be pretty darn slim, and thanks to the fact that the bezel is almost non-existent, it certainly makes the device larger than it really is. They will be available in sizes ranging from 42” up to a whopping 60”, although we’re guessing that the latter will most likely come with a price tag to match.

They will be running on Google TV 3.0 with the software integrated into the panel itself, and will come with several new features such as more advanced voice recognition, courtesy of the redesigned Magic Remote we reported on last week. The LG Google TV will also come with OnLive preinstalled that lets gamers have access to games in the cloud. Additional details of the LG Google TV will be unveiled at CES 2013 so be sure to check back with us then for the rundown. [Press release]

LG’s 2013 Google TV sets to come in more sizes, fresher designs

LG's 2013 Google TV sets to come in more sizes, sleeker looks

LG only experimented with a Google TV lineup in 2012; for 2013, it’s committing to the concept in earnest. The 47- and 55-inch sizes we know today should be joined by 42-, 50- and 60-inch models that cater both to frugal viewers and those who like to live large. We should also see the spruced-up designs that come with yearly updates, including newer zero-bezel frames and distinctive stands. We’re less surprised by input and software updates — all of the new screens will ship with voice-enabled Google TV and OnLive support from the get-go, and the company’s multi-talented Magic Remote is making its return. LG is remaining coy on further details beyond promising a release sometime in the first half of 2013, although there’s a good chance we’ll know more in Las Vegas.

LG Optimus G2 To Feature 5.5-inch 1080p display?

It was not too long ago when the world found out that LG has in its wings, a spanking new Android-powered flagship device that is tipped for a 2013 release, and it will be known as the LG Optimus G2. Of course, judging by the name of the device alone, you can more or less figure out that it will succeed the current Optimus G that you see above, and in all probability, it ought to go up against the likes of the rumored Samsung Galaxy S4 and other different flagship models that will be making their way to the market in 2013.

South Korean publication Asiae says that the LG Optimus G2 would not feature a 5-inch display, but rather, it will make the leap to the phablet category with a 5.5-inch display, sporting 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution to boot. Assuming this is true, then it would be a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 instead of the unreleased Galaxy S4. It ought to come with Android Key Lime Pie (version 5.0, perhaps?), LTE connectivity, a 2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Prime processor and an advanced camera located behind.

LG boasts 10 million L-series phones sold

While the Optimus G and the Nexus 4 might be the company’s top products, LG also sells some pretty mean mid-range devices as well, specifically the Optimus L-series. The company first launched its L-series devices at Mobile World Congress back in February, and has since sold 10 million of them. The series consists of four different models, the latest being the flagship L-series handset, the Optimus L9.

While 10 million isn’t nearly close to Samsung’s 30 million sold with the Galaxy S III, calling their 10 million achievement a “modest milestone,” LG still loves to boast sales figures. The company says the 10 million mark is “proof that many consumers want attractive smartphones with distinctive — not “me too” — styling.”

The L-series consists of the basic Optimus L3, the Optimus L5, the Optimus L7 and the aforementioned Optimus L9. The company promotes these handsets as fashionable alternatives to the sea of all the identical Android phones available to consumers, an argument that LG pushes for with these devices. And while even the L9 isn’t top-of-the-line, it’s a perfect example of a budget handset that performs.

10 million units sold is impressive for any smartphone, but we’re talking about four different handsets that have combined for 10 million sold, which comes down to 2.5 million per model on average. Personally, we’d love to see the breakdown of which L-series smartphone has proven the most popular out of the bunch.

LG L-Series Sold 10 Million Units To Date

The executives over at LG Electronics must be popping some champers after announcing that the sales of their Optimus L-Series smartphones have passed the 10 million unit mark already, which is still a modest milestone when you think about it, but at least it shows that their L-Series smartphones under the Optimus branch is going somewhere at the very least. According to LG, the success of this shows that “many consumers want attractive smartphones with distinctive styling.” Are you one of the 10 million who picked up the LG L-Series Optimus smartphones, and what were your reasons for doing so?

The L-Series handsets come in the Optimus L3, Optimus L5, and Optimus L7 models, sporting a 3.2”, 4” and 4.3” display, respectively, and they were all introduced at MWC 2012 first. LG’s design philosophy brought together 5 aesthetic elements: Modern Square Style for a comfortable grip, Floating Mass Technology for a slimmer look, Seamless Layout for a more intuitive arrangement of keys, Harmonized Design Contrast utilizing metallic accents and Sensuous Slim Shape that draws one’s gaze to the unique form factor. Well, where does LG go from here? Can we say, “Here’s to the next 10 million?” [Press Release]
