In what could be considered an awesome PR stunt for LG and to show how lifelike its displays can be, the company rigged nine of their IPS displays together into a 3×3 array and placed it on a random elevator floor. When people would enter the elevator, LG would play quite a mean prank them, especially those who have a fear of heights and falling.

The video consists of people getting into an elevator, and once they push the desired floor number, the elevator would have a brief moment of malfunctioning, and the fake floor shown on the IPS displays would all of sudden give and fall out from underneath the elevator riders. LG titled its little stunt “So real it’s scary,” and indeed a lot of the people probably thought they were going to meet their maker that day.

Of course, the whole point behind the stunt was for LG to show off the “lifelike colors” of its IPS displays, and what better way to do that then to put the displays to the test in real-life situations. Obviously, since this is an ad, we wouldn’t be surprised if these people were actors, but we’re really hoping they’re not.

The whole point of LG’s lifelike-colored IPS displays is to give users “consistency and less changes in colour temperature,” and the displays “offer a color impression identical to that of the original image.” This would essentially make calibration obsolete, but we’re simply just curious as to how lifelike the displays really are.

Highlights of Google’s incoming October 29 event, including both a new Android phone and a tablet, have leaked ahead of time, with an updated version of Android itself also expected to debut. The line-up has been previewed in an internal video, a source tells The Next Web, including the LG Nexus 4 seen in various leaks over the past few weeks, and a 10-inch Samsung-made tablet with an iPad 3-besting screen resolution.

The Nexus 4, based on LG’s Optimus G, will feature a 1.5GHz quadcore processor – Qualcomm’s APQ8064 Snapdragon, paired with 2GB of RAM – and have a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 display, slightly larger than the 4.65-inch panel of the current Galaxy Nexus. However, while Samsung’s Nexus uses a Super AMOLED display, LG’s will almost certainly use LG’s LCD-based True HD IPS+ panel.

It will also be the first to use Android 4.2, previously believed to be called Key Lime Pie, but now tipped to continue the Jelly Bean branding until a more significant OS refresh arrives later on. Among the new features will be “Content in the center” which will put media from the Google Play store in a widget on the homescreen, as indeed the Nexus 7 focused on, along with “Tablet Sharing” that will allow multiple user accounts on each slate.

That will turn Android 4.2 tablets into more communal devices ideal to be shared by a household of users, with each getting their own email and applications. It’s something that has long been requested from Android (and iOS for that matter) and which individual vendors, such as Barnes & Noble with the customized NOOK HD/HD+, had begun to cook up independently.

Android 4.2 will also include an updated panorama mode in the camera, supporting horizontal and vertical panning, a feature that will likely look particularly good on the new Samsung tablet. That slate, which we’ve heard whispers of for some time now, is expected to use a 2560 x 1600 display, and is currently codenamed “Manta” though may well launch as the Nexus 10 so as to fit in with existing nomenclature.

Finally, the video also confirms two new versions of the Nexus 7, including the well-leaked 32GB model, and version with 3G HSPA+ integrated for getting online on the move. It’s unclear at this stage whether Google will attempt to do anything special with data pricing for the 3G tablet.

LG has outed a duo of new Windows 8 machines, the H160 sliding-convertible tablet and a 23-inch touchscreen all-in-one, the V325, with the promise of a standalone touchscreen version in the pipeline. The LG H160 has an 11.6-inch touchscreen and runs Windows 8 on a sliding/tilting form-factor, with a QWERTY keyboard revealed when the display is pushed up with LG’s new “Auto-Sliding” mechanism.

The display itself is an LCD IPS panel with 178-degree viewing angles, while connectivity includes USB, an HDMI port, microSD card slot, and the usual wireless options. The whole thing is 15.9mm thick and weighs 1.05kg – somewhat hefty for a tablet, we have to say – but manages to fit a battery good for up to 10hrs use.

There’s also a “Smart” touch pen, though it’s not clear if that’s a simple capacitive stylus of a proper active-digitizer version; we’re hoping the latter.

As for the LG V325, that’s a 23-inch Full HD AIO PC with 10-finger multitouch and a digital TV tuner, allowing for standalone TV viewing without having to boot into Windows 8. It comes with a remote control just to complete the illusion.

When you’re actually doing some work (or gaming), however, there’s an Intel Core i5 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT640M graphics, and support for 3D, while LG says the V325 can boot up in half the time of its Windows 7 predecessors.

LG says there’ll also be a display-only version of the AIO PC, the LG ET83, launching from October 26, targeting those content with their PC/notebook but wanting touchscreen control. The company will also have new ultrabooks – the LG Z355 and Z460 – and other laptops and desktops running Microsoft’s new OS, again from October 26.

There are reasonable rumors (if there was ever such a thing, of course) to believe that LG’s Nexus 4 smartphone will come in a 16GB flavor, considering how 8GB on a high end smartphone these days is rather unbecoming, as it certainly does not befit the status of a flagship device. After all, we need all the storage space possible since the HD display would be put to best use if you were to watch high quality encoded movies on it, right? That would definitely be one of the main draws, and a reasonably reliable source of industry leaks shared over Twitter some of the LG Nexus 4’s specifications, citing a 16GB version in tow.

Surely 16GB of storage space would not come across as a typo, considering how the figures are very far apart on the keyboard itself, unless it was a slip of the mind that the fingers unwittingly carried through. All should be revealed in due time at Google’s Nexus event that is set for October 29th though, so let us keep our eyes peeled and fingers crossed.
