Just as rumors predicted, the LG Intuition for Verizon has been made official in time for a September 6th launch date. The phone, which is essentially the Optimus Vu with the carrier’s 4G LTE connectivity thrown in, will be available for $200 on contract on Verizon’s website starting tomorrow, and it will hit stores on September 10th. Verizon Intuition by LG brings 4G phablet fun on September 6

Verizon has officially unveiled the Intuition by LG, the carrier’s LTE version of the 5-inch Optimus Vu phablet, with sales kicking off September 6. Priced at $199.99 with a new, two-year agreement, the LG Intuition will come preloaded with the company’s QuickMemo app, intended to gather up handwritten notes and sketches made with the bizarrely named “Rubberdium” stylus.

There’s also LG Tag+ loaded, which uses NFC to control settings and modes, and Verizon will throw a couple of programmable NFC stickers into the box. These can be used for automatically kicking the Intuition into silent mode, for instance, when you tap it on your nightstand. The Intuition comes preprogrammed with four different modes: Car, Office, Sleep and User.

The 5-inch display uses the unusual 4:3 aspect ratio and has a 650 NIT backlight for easier outdoor use; there’s also an 8-megapixel main camera, with LED flash and 1080p Full HD video recording, along with a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera. OS is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, running on an 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, while connectivity includes Bluetooth 3.0+HS and that all-important LTE, complete with mobile hotspot sharing for up to ten WiFi-tethered devices.

Online sales kick off on September 6, with in-store sales following on September 10. Of course, with Samsung’s Galaxy Note II freshly announced, it’s entirely possible that Verizon and LG have collectively waited too long to bring the Intuition to market.

LG Chem wire battery could see future consumer electronics take on new forms

Researchers over at LG Chem might be on to something here (yes, they are a subsidiary of LG, the South Korean consumer electronics giant), and are said to be one of the largest chemical companies in the world, now how about that? Just what kind of sorcery have they managed to achieve this time around? We are talking about a new kind of battery which comes in a wire-like form factor. I am quite sure that upon hearing this, your mind must be conjuring up whatever kind of future devices that can be developed, knowing that such a battery exists. (more…)

LG Intuition could be headed Verizon’s way 6th of September

A week ago a press shot of the LG Intuition, also known as the Optimus Vu, was spotted suggesting that a release could be imminent. At that time it was speculated that the Intuition could see a release on the 15th of September but it looks like the date has been moved up. According to the leaked screenshot above (via Engadget), it seems that the release date of the LG Intuition has been moved up to the 6th of September which is this coming Thursday. However the 6th is the online release date so for those who want to get the phone in stores, word has it that it will only be available on the 10th.

For those who might have forgotten, the LG Intuition is LG’s answer to Samsung’s Galaxy Note and will sport a 5” IPS display with a resolution of 1024×768. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8660 Snapdragon S3 processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 1GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera and will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Whether the 6th of September online release date pans out remains to be seen, but if this is a device you wouldn’t mind getting your hands on, check back with us in a couple of days for confirmation!

LG teases Splendor for US Cellular, brings Optimus L7 to American shores

LG teases Splendor for US Cellular, brings Optimus L7 to American shores

We’ve wondered if LG’s L-series style phones, like the Optimus L7, would ever reach the US; we just didn’t think LG would be the one to leak its own plans. Astute watchers at Smartphenom caught both a since-pulled LG product page and a brochure that have inadvertently confirmed the bigger (though not biggest) model in the Android 4.0 budget line arriving on US Cellular as the Splendor. The American voyage doesn’t involve much of an overhaul, mind you — the switch to the CDMA network and a conspicuous carrier logo are the biggest changes to the 4.3-inch handset. No word has emerged as to just how soon the Splendor will appear or how much it will cost, although the official documents and the L7’s budget nature could put it in stores relatively soon with a low price tag.

LG Chem develops very flexible cable batteries, may leave mobile devices tied up in knots

LG Chem develops cableshaped flexible batteries, may leave mobile devices tied up in knots

The world is no stranger to flexible batteries, but they’ve almost always had to be made in thin sheets — that doesn’t amount to a long running time if you’re powering anything more than a watch. LG Chem has developed a flexible lithium-ion battery that’s not just better-suited to our bigger gadgets but could out-do previous bendable energy packs. Researchers found that coating copper wires with nickel-tin and coiling them briefly around a rod results in a hollow anode that behaves like a very strong spring; mating that anode with a lithium-ion cell leads to a battery that works even when it’s twisted up in knots. Join multiple packs together, and devices could have lithium-ion batteries that fit many shapes without compromising on their maximum deliverable power. Some hurdles remain to creating a production-grade battery, such as a tendency for the pack to shed a small amount of capacity whenever it’s put under enough stress. LG Chem is fully set on turning these cable batteries into shippable technology, however, and could ultimately produce mobile devices and wearables that really do bend to their owners’ every whim.

LG’s LS860 ‘Cayenne’ visits the FCC, flaunts Sprint LTE bands

LG's LS860 'Cayenne' visits the FCC, flaunts Sprint LTE bands

After making the rounds with Mr. Blurry Cam, Sprint’s rumored LG LS860 ‘Cayenne’ handset has taken a breather from its photo tour and made a stop at the FCC. The federal filing reveals that the smartphone uses LTE bands tailored for the Now Network (CDMA 850 / 1900; LTE Band 25) and totes NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, SVLTE (simultaneous voice and data) and the usual suspects of WiFi b/g/n and GPS. If other details previously gleaned from the grapevine hold true, the mobile will be powered by a flavor of Android 4.0, pack a 4-inch WVGA screen and a 1.2GHz dual-core S4 processor. There’s no word from LG or Big Yellow about the phone’s official debut, but its FCC appearance means that it could soon show up packaged and properly photographed in the US.

LG Intuition 4G LTE may become available on Verizon September 6th

LG Intuition may launch on Verizon September 6th

The day of September 6th is gearing up to be a rather hefty one for Verizon: earlier we reported that the Samsung Galaxy Stellar is slated to launch on that date, and it’s also the day after Motorola unveils its latest lineup for Big Red. Why not throw in another device that we’ve heard so much about, such as the LG Intuition? Indeed, docs detailing the CDMA-clad Optimus Vu is now beginning to make the rounds in Verizon’s internal system — and its intended launch date is among the trove of treasures to be found within. According to the docs, we should expect to see the 5-inch device available online in time for the 6th, while all channels won’t be ready to go until the 10th. We can’t imagine that too many people will be upset over having to wait another four days, however.

In terms of specs, here’s what we can anticipate from the Intuition: Ice Cream Sandwich, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 (Snapdragon S3) processor paired with MDM9600 LTE modem and 1GB RAM, Gorilla Glass, a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1024 x 768, 15 hours of talk time, 8MP rear camera with 1.3MP front-facing cam and no microSD expandable storage option. Ultimately, the Intuition is Verizon’s variant of the Optimus Vu, and boasts that commonality right down to the components and design — you won’t find much difference in specs, weight or dimensions between the two. We’ve compiled a few images for your enjoyment, so head below to see. As before, we had to be creative in how we treated these images to protect the identity of everyone involved.

LG E970 Eclipse for AT&T cruises through FCC approval

LG E970 Eclipse for AT&T cruises through FCC approval

The Eclipse, LG’s rumored “superphone” heading to AT&T, has just made it through the FCC approval process and is one step closer to seeing availability in time for the holiday season. Known also as the E970, the device unsurprisingly offers the usual AT&T LTE radios (band 4 and 17) but much like we’ve seen in other FCC applications recently, it also tacks on an additional two next-gen radios (bands 2 and 5), likely to get ready for an impending spectrum refarm attempt. From the docs we also learn that the Eclipse will have NFC along with the expected HSPA+ / UMTS / EDGE connectivity. As a recap, the device is rumored to offer a quad-core Krait APQ8064 and a 4.67-inch display with 1,280 x 768 resolution. So it looks like this particular handset is still on course for a Halloween launch, and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for additional information.
