LG Optimus Vu/Intuition press shot spotted, possible 15th September release

Last week we reported that the LG Optimus Vu “phablet” could be rebranded as the LG Intuition when it eventually makes its way onto Verizon. While we’re sure many of you guys are probably aware of how the LG Optimus Vu looks like, the folks at DroidDog have received an image of what appears to be the press shot of the device when it arrives on Verizon, and more interestingly it seems that a 15th of September release date has been speculated. This is thanks to a date which was spotted in the press shot of the image, as dates and icons in press shots are usually pretty good indicators of when the device could be launching. However since Verizon has yet to actually announce the device, let alone give it a release date, we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now but do check back with us in September as hopefully an official release date will be given.

Earlier we had reported that LG had in a way confirmed some of the specs of its upcoming flagship phone, which many believe will be known as the LG Optimus G. Unfortunately the design of the phone has yet to be seen, but thanks to the folks at AndroidMX, they have managed to get their hands on the device as pictured above. With confirmed specs pointing at a 1280×768 True HD IPS+ Display and a quad-core processor powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 chipset, the folks at AndroidMX are saying that that the phone “really flies”.

With IFA taking place in Berlin this week, many are speculating that LG could be unveiling the device then, although LG did mention earlier that no new smartphones will be revealed then, so perhaps the LG Optimus G will be getting an event of its own. In any case we will be covering IFA so hopefully we will have more details then, if not be sure to check back with us regularly as we will be keeping an eye on this and will post once we have more information.

LG Optimus G’s display confirmed to be 1280×768 True HD IPS+

LG logoA couple of days ago, LG launched a new website which was basically dedicated to its upcoming LG Optimus G Android handset, probably LG’s most powerful Android handset to date. The website did confirm several features, such as its quad-core capabilities, although other specs such as its screen size, camera, memory, design, etc. remain to be seen. However in a recent press release, LG has apparently confirmed the display of the upcoming handset and has put it at 1280×768, giving the phone’s display a pixel density of 320ppi. LG has also confirmed that the display will be a True HD IPS+ Display and claims it is sharper than AMOLED which is probably a dig at its competitor, Samsung, who usually uses AMOLED displays as one of the features to market their phones with.

Additional details of the upcoming device includes a new battery which LG claims is 60% more efficient and will have a charge cycle of 800, which is approximately 300 more than the average smartphone battery. We expect LG to unveil all the details and the design of the phone at IFA, so if you’d like an alternative to all the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X Android phones out there, perhaps the LG Optimus G might be a phone worth keeping an eye out for. LG TM2792 Personal TV packs WiDi, MHL and standalone web

LG has revealed its latest smart TV, the LG TM2792 Personal TV, a kitchen and bedroom scale set that doesn’t stint on display performance or media streaming abilities. Measuring in at 27-inches, the Full HD TV uses an LED IPS panel for better quality video and 250 nits brightness, with 3D support and integrated WiFi Direct, WiDi and DLNA for streaming directly from notebooks or other devices.

There’s also an MHL HDMI connection, allowing a phone or tablet to be easily hooked up for showing off whatever photos or videos you might have shot. Other connections include VGA, composite and component, along with SCART, three USB ports – which will support a keyboard and mouse, allowing the TM2792 to be used as a web-surfing interface without your PC turned on – and wired ethernet.

The panel itself is clad in a narrow metal bezel, and LG throws in its Magic Remote for navigating through the on-screen dashboard. That supports video-on-demand, LG Smart World apps and more; the TM2792 can also convert 2D to 3D and includes twin 7W speakers.

No word on pricing for the TM2792, but it will go on sale in September and we’ll find out more at IFA 2012 this coming week.

LG TM2792 personal TV with Cinema Screen design debuts at IFA 2012

Another day, another new TV is unveiled, although I do not think that the quantum leap made from standard definition TV to Full HDTV has been replicated with the introduction of the LG TM2792 personal TV with Cinema Screen design at IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany. Touted by LG to be the “ultimate entertainment platform” (now where have we heard that familiar claim before, hmmm?), the LG TM2792 will enable users to enjoy a vast array of innovative features such as LG Smart TV functionality, Cinema 3D and Cinema Screen Design, all the while delivering amazing image quality courtesy of its IPS technology.

Boasting an understated elegance, being crazy about technology sees us look more into what is underneath the hood than just fall for external temptations, so what do you get with this 27″ TV? Apart from the now usual 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, the LG TM2792 will have a LED IPS (In Plane Switching)/3D display with 250 nits of brightness, a wide 178-degree viewing angle, 5ms response time, and a pair of 7W speakers. LG Intuition spied in press shots, leaves just one piece of the puzzle left

The LG Intuition may be one of Verizon’s more poorly-kept secrets of recent memory. Apart from LG itself having confirmed that an Optimus Vu rebranding is due for the US within weeks, there’s been pricing and even an uncannily detailed FCC filing to fill in the gaps. Why not throw official press images into the mix? From the renders DroidDog has managed to obtain, the Intuition is a bit more than just a one-for-one port of the original Korean phablet. While Verizon’s influence is light outside of that attention-grabbing logo, there’s a switch-up in the navigation keys to reflect that Android 4.0 will be there from the beginning — a nice break from the ancient-feeling Android 2.3 layout of the original. About the only question left at this stage is that of the exact release date. There’s a September 15th mention in one of the images, but we all know how dates in press imagery can be misleading.

LG Optimus G: True HD IPS+ Display, S4 Pro and super-strength battery

LG‘s next flagship smartphone will have a True HD IPS+ Display matching the iPhone 4S’ Retina Display, the company has teased, along with a high-speed Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. The officially unnamed handset, due for reveal imminently and codenamed the LG Optimus G, will turn to the company’s screen-centric branch for its visual prowess, with LG Display’s newest 1280 x 768 Stripe RGB IPS panel promising both extreme brightness and reduced power consumption against the AMOLEDs favored by arch-rival Samsung.

In fact, LG claims, its True HD IPS+ Displays use 70-percent less power than when showing an all-white background, something which taxes AMOLED. LG reckons the panel also bypasses screen burn-in, unlike AMOLED, while still hitting 470 nits of brightness.

That high-tech screen is paired with a new style of touch layer, too, with LG working with LG Innotek to create the G2 Touch Hybrid Display that bonds glass and LCD. Thickness is down 30-percent compared to previous-gen screens, and graphics themselves appear to float right under the fingertip.

LG had already confirmed that its new device would debut Qualcomm’s upcoming S4 Pro Snapdragon chipset, the APQ8064. Having benchmarked the processor ourselves, we know that’s going to make the LG one very quick phone.

It’ll be matched with a battery that LG insists will hold up to the usability challenge, too. The company’s LG Chem arm has come up with “high-density technology” which runs 60-percent more efficiently than rival batteries while extending recharge cycles from the typical 500 to 800.

We’re expecting to see more on the new LG in the coming weeks.
