LG Spectrum’s Ice Cream Sandwich is “very close”

Everyone is talking about the latest version of Android, version 4.1 also known as Jelly Bean. But there are millions of smartphone owners who still haven’t gotten the update to version 4.0. That version of Android, known better as Ice Cream Sandwich, is now poised to grade the LG Spectrum phone, as Google and manufacturers continue to push out as many updates as possible.

A company representative posted a message on an official LG forum in which he wrote that the update to the recent version of Android, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, is “very close to release.” It seems that the only part of the process still needing to be finalized is on the Verizon side of things.

Ice Cream Sandwich is one of the biggest updates to Android yet, and includes such features as scanning your face to unlock the phone, a much more robust speech-to-text software program, and an entire platform of data sharing that focuses on Near Field Communication (NFC). Several other manufacturers have pledged support for the new update, and a bunch of phones currently running an older version of Android.

Sprint’s rumored LG LS860 ‘Cayenne’ shows up once more, reveals hint of ICS

Sprint's rumored LG LS860 'Cayenne' shows up once more, reveals hint of ICS

Well, look who decided to make a sudden appearance yet again. Not long after receiving a quick, unexpected visit from the legendary (and very crafty) Mr. Blurrycam, the purported Sprint-bound LG LS860 has decided it was time for another showing. This time around, though, the Cayenne’s a little more revealing than during its previous exhibition, flaunting its powered-on 4-inch, WVGA screen and what appears to be a flavor of Android 4.0 running on the background — this would allegedly be paired alongside a dual-core, 1.2GHz S4 CPU, which is a slight change from what we’d previously heard. As far as whether or not LG’s Cayenne will be involved in the next wave of LTE-enabled slabs headed to The Now Network — for that, our friends, we’ll have to wait to find out.

SlashGear Morning Wrap-Up: July 20, 2012

This morning it’s time to continue the epic saga that is the Parisian McDonalds wearable camera incident – with Steve Mann continuing his quest to make AR a reality for the universe. Yahoo is pleading with their staff to “please don’t stop” – an odd battle cry if ever have we heard one. Those of you waiting for Jelly Bean on your Android phones might want to turn to Nokia – yes Nokia – to find it: Android 4.1 has been ported to the N9.

Science is making a healthy attempt at getting smudge-free touchscreens for the near future. It’s once again time to check out Marissa Mayer’s cash fee for heading to Yahoo as its new CEO. There’s an update to Jelly Bean in Australia for emergency calls. You’ll want to take a peek at the LG IPS7 Series LCD IPS display and its easy to use MHL port.

You wont be seeing Thunderbolt 20Gbps until 2014 – bummer! Have a peek at how Microsoft has enlisted a Special Projects chief to replace their shuttered skunkworks. Make sure you check out the column entitled Will public shame stem Apple’s patent aggression?

LG has new IPS monitors for the masses

LG intends to maintain their edge over the rest of the competition by introducing new IPS monitors that are known as the IPS7 series, where these will come in 23″ and 27″ sizes. Apart from the display size, everything else underneath the hood remains the same, so it is just a matter of budget and need when balanced together. What does LG offer with the new IPS7 series? For starters, tehy will boast LG’s very own Cinema Screen Design that allows it to come with an impressively thin 1.2mm bezel, which will practically do away with any visual distraction while enabling one to enjoy greater viewing immersion thanks to its 178-degree viewing angle.

Not only that, other hardware specifications include 250 nits of brightness, a response time of 5ms, 1080p resolution, and a 16:9 aspect ratio which are sure to keep any movie buffs happy and smiling. As for the overall depth, it has been reduced to a mere 14.1mm. Forget about those cheap looking plastic buttons that you see in other consumer electronics devices – LG decided to take the high road by replacing those with capacitive touch controls for a sleeker look.

No idea on pricing though, but it will arrive in Asia first before making its way to the rest of the world. [Press Release]

LG Cayenne LS860 spotted in the wild again

LG CayenneRemember LG’s QWERTY-keyboard toting phone that was caught in the wild a couple of months ago, the LG Cayenne (LS860)? Well it looks like the phone has surfaced again. @evleaks (who brought us the Samsung Jasper images earlier today) managed to snap a photograph of the phone today, and was generous enough to share it with the world. While it’s nothing that we haven’t seen before, the photograph is of pretty decent quality (unlike the previous blurry cam pictures). The phone’s slide out keyboard isn’t shown here, but we can see that it is running Ice Cream Sandwich based on its notification bar and phone power options.

The LG Cayenne is headed for Sprint and is said to pack a Qualcomm MSM8960 processor,  4″ WVGA display, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, LTE connectivity and Android Ice Cream Sandwich. No word on when the phone will be launched, but a leak like this suggests that it shouldn’t be too far away. Anybody pumped about getting an Android device with a physical keyboard?

LG has new IPS monitors in tow

LG is not a company that shies away from the limelight, considering how they have been working hard to make a name for themselves in the world of consumer electronics and have largely succeeded, although their line of smartphones do leave something to be desired. Well, today we will not touch on yet another Android-powered smartphone by LG, but rather, will take a look at new IPS monitors from the South Korean company that boasts of Cinema Screen design alongside MHL connectivity.

The IPS7 Series are said to deliver superb colors that are so close to real life, and when you couple that with a stylish design and smarter connectivity options, most folks would say that this is capable of delivering the ultimate entertainment experience which does not tax your eyes too much – although I am quite sure that your bank account is going to take quite a hit in the process. Let us learn more about what the new LG IPS monitors are able to deliver right after the jump.

First launching in the Asian markets of Korea and China (Hong Kong included), the IPS7 series will feature LG’s very own CINEMA SCREEN Design, offering a near invisible bezel design for an unobstructed entertainment experience and a sophisticated, modern appearance. Not only that, you get lifelike color consistency and representation across a wider viewing angle, while the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) makes it a snap to hook up external devices such as smartphones to deliver an immersive viewing on a larger screen.

The bezel measures just 1.2mm thin, and the overall depth of LG’s IPS7 monitors has also gone to the fat house, experiencing a reduction to a mere 14.1mm. As for the streamlined metallic stand, it creates an aesthetically sharp profile while the cable management feature further enhances the visual appeal.

You can choose from 23″ or 27″ models, where either one come with 1080p resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 250 nits of brightness, and 5ms of response time. Any takers?

LG IPS7 Series LCD IPS displays pack MHL for easy phone hookup

LG has a pair of new LED IPS displays on offer, the IPS7 Series, promising high-quality graphics using technology borrowed from the company’s big-screen TV range, though scaled to suit the average desk. The 27-inch LG IPS277L and its smaller 23-inch IPS237L sibling each eschew the mainstream TN panels common on external displays, as well as throwing in MHL-HDMI ports for easier connectivity with smartphones and tablets.

The LCDs themselves are dressed in skinny bezels, with the edges just 1.2mm thick; the monitors as a whole are 14.1mm deep, and sit on trim metallic stands. Controls are all discrete capacitive touch-buttons, and the IPS7 Series will even recharge your phone or tablet while it’s plugged in over MHL.

LG is expecting the IPS7 Series to be snapped up by graphics professionals, and so is bundling calibration software to help get the colors up to scratch. The LCDs themselves run at 1920 x 1080 resolution, with 5ms response times and 250 nit brightness; bizarrely, LG lists the contrast ratio as merely “Mega”.

Korea, China and Hong Kong will be the first to get the IPS7 Series, with pricing yet to be confirmed. Availability after that is unclear, though we’d guess LG wants to get these displays on as many desks worldwide as possible.

LG introduces new IPS Monitors with Cinema Screen Design and MHL!

LG announced the global roll-out of its premium IPS7 series monitors, launching first in the Asian markets of Korea and China, including Hong Kong. The IPS7 series features LG’s own CINEMA SCREEN Design, with an almost invisible bezel for an unobstructed entertainment experience and a sophisticated, modern appearance. The IPS7 series also delivers lifelike color consistency and representa-tion across a wider viewing angle, thanks to LG’s own IPS technology. The addition of Mobile …

LG outs IPS7 Series monitors 23 or 27inch IPS, minimal bezel, MHL mobile link, 8bit 1080P

LG has announced a new series of IPS monitors, the 23- and 27-inch IPS7 series, with a mishmash of specs aimed at mobile, HD and professional users. Foregoing WQHD resolution in favor of plain jane 1920 x 1080, the panels feature a so-called Cinema Screen design with a 1.2mm (.025-inch) bezel, half-inch depth, a mobile high-definition (MHL) link, fast response times and color calibration software for professionals. If it’s trying to to tap the pro market, the monitors lack some features like dual-link 2560 x 1440 resolution and 10-bit, 1.07 billion color graphics like the Dell U2711 or HP ZR2740w, for instance — but then they could turn out to be considerably cheaper than those rivals. We’ll just have to wait to find out the pricing.
