LG’s Nexus 5 visits the FCC again, this time with clearer external shots

LG's Nexus 5 visits the FCC again, this time with clearer external shots

New FCC documents spotted by Phone Scoop have given us a closer look at what could be LG’s rumored Nexus 5 handset. Curiously, photos of this D820 were filed alongside documentation for Verizon’s G2 (VS980), but the clear view of the front and back appears to be of the same LG-branded smartphone that was approved by the FCC just a week ago.

The D820 offers same rounded-off top and bottom edges found on the Nexus 4, while stepping away from the glass-covered back of its predecessor. Last week’s FCC filing also points to LG including a 5-inch display and a Snapdragon 800 SoC, boosting not only its size but performance too. There’s also room for Qi wireless charging and support for 7-band LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and dual-band 802.11 b/g/n/ac.

While the shots don’t feature the same giant Nexus logo we saw on the mysterious LG phone used by a Google employee recently, we’re almost certainly looking at the same device. We just hope he got to keep his job.

LG G2 ships to six Canadian carriers on September 27th

LG G2 ships to six Canadian carriers on September 27th

Canadians won’t have to wait long for their version of the LG G2. The 5.2-inch smartphone is now due to reach Bell, Rogers, Sasktel, Telus, Videotron and Wind Mobile on September 27th, two days after it launches on T-Mobile in the States. The carriers haven’t yet divulged pricing, although we’re not expecting Bell, Rogers or Telus to charge much more than $200 on contract, like some of their American counterparts.

Could This Be The Nexus 5?

Could This Be The Nexus 5?Much has been said and done about the Nexus 5, with @evleaks actually making an apology, being glad that they are wrong on their call concerning the LG D821, but what you see above here was pulled from an FCC filing which could very well be one of the first close up shots of the alleged Nexus 5. LG looks set to continue being the manufacturer of the next generation Nexus smartphone, and hence so far the naming convention that the world has been using is the Nexus 5, so we will stick to that for familiarity’s sake.

The FCC photos do reveal a rather clear look at the rear of this LG manufactured smartphone, and it does seem to be pretty much consistent with what we saw at the Google Android 4.4 KitKat unveiling video that appeared for just a moment before disappearing into anonymity. Both the camera as well as flash happen to be in the same spot, but one does raise an eyebrow at the visible tiny window located near the top of the device. Apart from that, the FCC images do point to both power button and volume rocker located on either side of the device. I guess it would not take on the LG G2′s unique button placement at the back of the handset after all.

LG D821 Might Be The LG Nexus 5

LG D821 Might Be The LG Nexus 5 She loves me, she loves me not, she loves me…you know the rest of the drill. It does seem as though there has been some confusion surrounding the upcoming LG Nexus 5 device when it was originally spotted over at the Android 4.4 KitKat unveiling video. After that, there was word going around that the LG D820 as well as LG D821 being the Nexus 5, only to be refuted as the CDMA version of the LG G2, before a backtrack was conceded by the folks over at @evleaks. Well, let us comb over what the LG D821’s leak revealed – it does seem to be pretty similar to the LG D820 at first glance, so it is not too difficult to assume that this is the same device, but then upon closer inspection, they are two very different devices.

First of all, the LG D821 is not – I repeat, is not the CDMA device as originally thought, where it will play nice with a couple of two LTE bands – 5 and 7, whereas the LG D820 would arrive with 7 band LTE (2,4,5,17,25,26 and 41) support as well as compatibility with both GSM and CDMA networks. Well, all of this speculation is not too good for the heart, so we would like to just wait for something more official to arrive.

@evleaks Backtracks On Nexus 5 Rebuttal

@evleaks Backtracks On Nexus 5 RebuttalIt was just a couple of days ago when serial leaksters @evleaks did mention that the LG D820 as well as the LG D821 is not the future generation Nexus 5 smartphone from LG, after much initial speculation that it was going to be otherwise. Well, here we are with word from the folks over at @evleaks themselves that they could have been wrong. In fact, in their tweet, they mentioned, “Happy to say it looks like I was wrong about the LG D820/D821…”.

Other than that rather open ended statement that does not leave any room at all to arrive at a foregone conclusion, we are left to make intelligent guesses. As to whether the LG D820 is going to be the upcoming Nexus 5 or not remains to be seen, but only time will be able to reveal all as with any other juicy rumors out there which are difficult to substantiate. If it were up to you, do you think that the LG D820 and LG D821 have more than meets the eye, and are @evleaks wrong to backtrack on their previous statement? I myself am in two minds about it, and I sure as heck would not be bothered too much about the eventual outcome as it is more or less certain that eventually, the Nexus 5 from LG will be revealed.

Sprint to start LG G2 pre-orders on October 11th

Sprint to start LG G2 preorders on October 11th

We’ve seen AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon commit to releasing the LG G2 this fall… but where’s Sprint’s version? Don’t worry, fans, the carrier hasn’t forgotten you. Sprint now says it will take pre-orders for the $200 Android flagship starting on October 11th, with a release “in time for the holidays.” In return for the wait, the provider is giving out free QuickWindow covers to everyone who pre-orders a G2 through its website. We doubt that the gift will quell the jealousy of Sprint customers whose friends get a G2 weeks in advance, but the more patient among those subscribers can register their interest at the source link.

LG Display unveils first Intel WiDi enabled LCD panel for monitors in the world

lg-display-widiLG Display remains at the forefront of things yet again, as the company has just announced that they have successfully developed the world’s first LCD panel for monitors that will boast of the Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) technology, which obviously is a project that was performed in collaboration with Intel Corporation. This happens to be a spanking new 23.8-inch LCD panel that would be the most recent improvement which empowers users with the ability to stream wirelessly their laptop and desktop content to their TVs as well as monitors in a far more seamless manner.

This successful collaboration with Intel resulted in the development of a panel that will offer Intel WiDi solution through the construction of a key chipset directly into the LCD module. Thanks to such a cutting-edge LCD panel that has been embedded with an Intel WiDi solution, LG Display would be able to let users enjoy quality images with an easy and convenient access to Intel WiDi technology, all without having to go through the hassle of using additional devices, not to mention paving the way for OEMs and monitor manufacturers to weigh and consider the possibility of adopting such advanced technology in their future range of products.

Sang-Yeol Kim, Vice President of LG Display’s IT and Mobile Product Planning Division, said, “LG Display’s latest development brings us closer to the N-Screen era. Through our close collaboration with Intel Corporation, we look forward to pioneering the age of wireless devices with our global partners.”

It remains to be seen, however, just how much such a display would cost when it eventually arrives in the market. We do know, however, that this 23.8” Intel WiDi solution-enabled LCD panel will make its debut at the upcoming 2013 Intel Developer Forum which will happen tomorrow until September 12th in San Francisco, California.

    LG D821 Leaked By @evleaks

LG D821 Leaked By @evleaksWell, well, what do we have here? A leaked image of the LG D821 has just been released by the folks over at @evleaks (who by the way, did refute the previous rumor that the LG D820 is the future Nexus 5, but rather, will be a CDMA version of the LG G2 instead), where this particular leak also did mention about the hardware specifications.

From @evleaks’, er leak, we do know that the LG D821 will run on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system, powered by a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, sport 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory, a choice of black or white shades alongside CDMA connectivity. It is nice to see that there is no lesser amount of internal memory to come along with the smartphone, as 32GB would be pretty handy these days considering the kind of Full HD video as well as high resolution photos and other kinds of media that you are going to store on it. Of course, it remains to be seen just when will the LG D821 be released, and when that happens, for how much will it go for on the respective mobile carriers. Would you pick up the LG D821 when it arrives?

The LG D820 Is Not The Nexus 5, Says @evleaks

The LG D820 Is Not The Nexus 5, Says @evleaksIt was not too long ago – just last week, in fact, that we talked about the possibility of the Nexus 5 from LG hitting the FCC for approval, where the FCC filing pointed to a LG D820 model number. While that certainly raised a fair number of eyebrows not to mention the relevant speculation that the LG D820 could very well be the Nexus 5, along comes word from serial leaksters @evleaks that the LG D820 will not be the next generation LG Nexus 5. @evleaks, on the other hand, claims that the LG D820 model will actually be the CDMA version of the LG G2 flagship model instead.

In a short sentence that is no more than 140 characters, our hopes of a Nexus 5 has more or less disappeared in a puff of smoke, since @evleaks has had a pretty accurate record in the past concerning rumors and speculation. They tweeted, “Sorry Nexus fans: LG D820 is just a CDMA G2 variant.” Ah well, in the meantime, I guess we will just have to mope around and wait for the next possible Nexus 5 rumor or leak to emerge, but at the very least we do know the flagship LG G2 is in line for a CDMA model!
