LG is building a washing machine that doesn’t use water

LG Senior VP hints at nearfuture of company's smart appliances, adds ironing function and a washing machine without water

Still not charmed by LG’s robo-vacuum? Well, the Korean electronics manufacturer has plenty more appliances up its capacious sleeves, including a washing machine that won’t require water. Alas, Senior Vice President for LG Electronics Home Appliance Division, Kevin Cha, wasn’t willing to divulge to us exactly how this laundry magic trick will be performed, or whether it’ll be totally waterless rather than just virtually waterless — it’s still in the early stages of development and is (for now) a trade secret.

What we do know is that another LG model, the Styler that was unveiled at CES this year, can already ‘freshen’ clothes without detergent or water. This, too, is also going to pick up a feature upgrade, with the company set to add some kind of ironing functionality to the upright clothes cabinet soon. LG is also looking at an ecological re-imagining of the refrigerator, with a prototype that can keep itself cool for six hours without any power assistance. In general, LG says it’s focusing on next-generation smart appliances in a big way next year. Hopefully, those plans will include some of the interesting patents we’ve picked up recently — and wine.

LG Optimus Zone Could Be Verizon’s LG Optimus L3

LG Optimus Zone Could Be Verizon’s LG Optimus L3Verizon Wireless is a mobile carrier that can be said to cater to just about every strata of society, since they do offer high end smartphones, in addition to feature phones, entry-level and mid-range smartphones, too. Well, a couple of featurephones that we covered earlier this week on Verizon Wireless would be the LG Cosmos 3 and LG Revere 2, and this time around, there is yet another mid-range device for those who want a functional smartphone without having to break the bank. In a nutshell, the LG Optimus Zone over on Verizon has been speculated to be a renamed version of the LG Optimus L3, where it features the model number LGVS410PP and is tipped to arrive before April is over.

What kind of hardware specifications can we look out for in the LG Optimus Zone? For starters, it would be the same as that of its international sibling, which would include the 3.2-inch 320×240 touchscreen display, an 800MHz processor, a 3.15-megapixel camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the operating system of choice. Android 2.3 Gingerbread sure as heck makes us feel as though we are living back in the Dark Ages…

LG Roboking Vacuum Cleaner Is Voice Activated

LG Roboking Vacuum Cleaner Is Voice ActivatedWe have seen our fair share of Roboking vacuum cleaners from LG before, and the South Korean consumer electronics giant is not about to give up on this particular home appliance range just yet. In fact, they are about to forge forward with renewed vigor, thanks to the introduction of a new voice activated vacuum cleaner, going by model numbers VR6281LVMC and VR6282LVMC in South Korea. This is one smart vacuum cleaner which can be operated simply by issuing relevant voice commands. Just like magic, the Roboking will pause whenever you clap your hands twice, and it also boasts of the capability of moving in the same direction as that of the user, in addition to being able to tell just where the source of the voice is. It is said that the new LG Roboking vacuum cleaner boasts of 10% more cleaning efficiency compared to its predecessors, and is also smart enough to take note of where the master corners of the room are, and is far more efficient in tackling obstacles.

There will be dual cameras located on the top and bottom, allowing one to enjoy a faster and smarter cleaning experience, while three ultrasonic sensors will enable it to complete its task faster than ever before. The internal battery is good for 100 minutes of use on a full charge, and it operates relatively quietly at a mere 48 decibels (dB).

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Now Available For LG Escape

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Now Available For LG Escape

We wouldn’t feel a day filled with news is complete without the mention of an Android device getting its wings, which is what we call it when it receives Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. We almost made it through an entire day feeling an empty void in our geek hearts, but thankfully LG has come to save the day by announcing one of its Android smartphones is getting its wings.

AT&T and LG are announcing the LG Escape will begin receiving Android 4.1 Jelly Bean starting today that will bring the usual suspect of improvements to the device such as improvements to the device’s notifications, SMS and MMS. AT&T is also makes its DriveMode available in today’s update which helps drivers stay away from texting and driving by sending out automatic text responses to incoming texts, e-mails or calls when it senses you’re traveling at least 25 mph. If you’re traveling below 25 mph, then we guess it’s OK with AT&T for you to quickly glance at your phone while you’re driving, that is, as long as you’re not driving a bus or precious cargo.

LG Holding Press Event On May 1; Will The Optimus G Pro Get Its U.S. Launch?

LG Holding Press Event On May 1; Will The Optimus G Pro Get Its U.S. Launch?

We reported on a rumor yesterday LG was planning to host an event on May 1 to possibly announce the Optimus G Pro, and you guys will never guess what made it into our mailbox. Well – besides our usual hourly dose of cat videos, we received an invitation to an LG event for May 1. Shocking, I know.

The event is scheduled to take place on May 1 in New York City and says “Share the Genius” across the middle of the invite. At the bottom of the invite we can see the LG logo as well as the words “Capture the Spotlight in True Brilliance.” No other information was given with the invite, although we believe it’s safe to assume this event is being held to announce the U.S. version of the LG Optimus G Pro, which we got our grubby little mitts all over last month. LG event invite tips Optimus G Pro for May 1st

It’s time again to get busy with an LG event for a massive release, this time in New York City with what we must assume is the LG Optimus G Pro for the United States! As the LG Optimus G Pro has been ramping up for release in all other areas of the earth save the USA, it’s high time we got some massive smartphone action of our own – starting May 1st! Have a peek at the invite here and let’s run down the clues as they come!

lginvite

What we’ve seen of the LG Optimus G Pro thus far is a release on one side of the ocean, a push on the other, and signs of a USA release in recent weeks. With the LG Optimus G Pro and the Google Nexus 4 by LG continuing to make waves on AT&T, T-Mobile, and off-contract here in the USA, the LG Optimus G Pro (and its recent FCC appearance) has us guessing we’ll be getting at least an AT&T 4G LTE iteration before summer time.

The “Share the Genius” line in the invite suggests either that the device they’re about to show will be riddled with share-friendly features or that the name, Optimus G, is ready to share the spotlight with the bigger version of greatness. The LG Optimus G Pro takes the finer points of the LG Optimus G and amplifies them – not only do you get a larger display, you get a much more powerful processor from Qualcomm and photography features that had us giving the thumbs up back at MWC 2013.

Have a peek at the timeline below of recent LG mobile tips, suggestions, and otherwise excellent hands-on experiences to see if you can piece together this puzzle for yourself. LG will one way or another need to bring some heat now that the Samsung GALAXY S 4 and the HTC One are about to hit the market – make it count!

LG’s New Robo Vacs Come When They’re Called

One of the biggest joys of owning a dog is that if you spill food on the floor, you can call them over and have it taken care of in no time. And that has to be what inspired the latest version of LG’s RoboKing voice-activated vacuum cleaners. More »

LG invites press to ‘share the genius’ event on May 1st

LG invites press to 'share the genius' event on May 1st

We’re not quite sure what it is yet, but LG has just invited us to save the date May 1st for a special event held in New York city, in which it asks us to “share the genius” and “capture the spotlight in true brilliance.” If this is indeed a new device, it alludes to a higher-res display and greater sound; is this a US version of the Optimus G Pro or simply the next-generation Optimus G? Hard to say at this point, but we’re keeping a pretty close eye out for more details. In the meantime, this is at least one more thing to look forward to in a couple weeks.

Verizon To Offer LG Cosmos 3 And Revere 2

Verizon To Offer LG Cosmos 3 And Revere 2A mobile carrier would certainly do itself no harm if it has a wide range of smartphones for consumers to choose from. After all, choice is everything, and there is something comforting to know that your hard earned money is capable of letting you enjoy different devices, depending on your wants at that particular moment. Well, Verizon Wireless has its fair share of flagship devices from different smartphone manufacturers, but this does not mean that they do not cater to those who are working on a tighter budget. No sir, Verizon has just announced that they will have a couple of feature phones from LG, namely the LG Cosmos 3 and LG Revere 2.

Both the LG Cosmos 3 and LG Revere 2 will continue from where their predecessors left off, as you can tell by the naming convention alone. They will remain stuck with Verizon’s older 1XRTT 3G technology and shared features between the two include a 1.3-megapixel camera with video capture capability, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, and basic web and messaging applications. The LG Cosmos 3 will sport a 2-inch 240 x 320 display, a full QWERTY keyboard, social networking apps, and a microSD memory card slot, while the LG Revere 2 is a blast from the past, carrying a flip phone form factor.
