Verizon announces LG Spectrum 2

Here we are with yet another smartphone that you might be interested in, especially if you are looking to upgrade your current contract that is set to expire. Of course, you will need to rock to Verizon Wireless if you want to pick up the LG Spectrum 2. The LG Spectrum 2 is a Verizon exclusive, so you are unable to pick it up from other mobile carriers in the US, and it is already available Stateside online since yesterday, while arriving at brick-and-mortar Verizon Wireless Communications Stores in the weeks ahead for a surprisingly affordable $99.99 price point – after you hand in a $50 mail-in rebate and agree to a new two year contract, of course.

It is said that the LG Spectrum 2 will be able to deliver a unique wireless experience courtesy of an ecosystem of features and accessories, enabling customers to do away with pesky cables that tend to get all tangled up from time to time – especially so when you leave your cables alone. There is the special battery cover that paves the way for wireless charging, and best of all is, this is thrown into the mix for free.

You are able to share information such as contacts, maps and websites with others sans wires thanks to the built-in near-field communications (NFC) capability, where all you need to do is just tap a pair of compatible phones together, and you’re good to go. NFC is also capable of working with reprogrammable LG Tag+ stickers, creating special smartphone modes for different situations and places that you might be in, while SmartShare allows you to wirelessly view pictures and watch videos on a DLNA-enabled device.

Other hardware specifications include a generous 4.7-inch True HD display, Corning Gorilla Glass for that added touch of durability, 4G LTE connectivity, an 8-megapixel camera at the back, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and 1080p HD video recording capability among others. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the operating system of choice, where it runs on a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Krait processor, accompanied by 16GB of internal memory with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. Does this sound like the smartphone for you?

Best Buy listing reminds us that the LG Spectrum 2 is still on its way to Verizon

DNP Best Buy ad reminds us that Verizon's LG Spectrum 2 is still on its way

A few months back an anonymous tipster gave us a candid look at the Verizon-bound LG Spectrum 2, but after a couple more sightings here and there, the trail eventually went cold and Big Red’s unannounced smartphone fled back into seclusion. However, a recent website posting by Best Buy has brought this mobile Sasquatch out of hiding and back into the mainstream media. While this listing is mostly a refresh confirming our source’s shared specs, it notes the Spectrum 2’s unsubsidized price as $650. Now, before you would-be buyers start directing your browser to the retailer’s webpage in hopes of making a quick purchase, it should be noted that the device is listed as “sold out online.” Still, we can’t help but notice the pictured device’s homescreen carries a date of November 3rd, which could be a nod to when the Spectrum 2 might officially show up on store shelves.

LG Spectrum 2 photos leaked

So we took a gander at the possibility of the LG Spectrum 2 being released soon, and not only that, we have also spotted accessories for the LG Spectrum 2 earlier this morning as well. Here we are with a leaked image of the LG Spectrum 2 that you can see above. Well, just what do we know about the possible specifications that are coming your way if you were to pick up the LG Spectrum 2?

For starters, we do know that it will come with a 4.7” True HD IPS display, powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, carry 1GB RAM, have the usual back and front facing cameras which will capture images in 8-megapixels and 1.3-megapixels, respectively, as well as a 2,150mAh battery that delivers adequate amounts of juice for your everyday smartphone needs. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the operating system of choice, and we are still in the dark as to when Verizon will release the LG Spectrum 2, in addition to being clueless about its pricing details.

LG Spectrum 2 caught posing with docks and cases

LG Spectrum 2 pictured with accessories

At this point, there isn’t much mystery left surrounding the LG VS930, aka Spectrum 2 for Verizon. Despite the onslaught of rumored specs, however, we still haven’t seen much in the way of the phone’s accessories. That has all changed now, as we’ve gotten our hands on a few smallish images of the new Spectrum residing in a car dock, home dock and a rugged-looking protective case. We’re still waiting on an official announcement along with availability and pricing (though we imagine all three details will come at the same time), but we try to convince ourselves that each new leak is a step closer to reality.

Samsung Stratosphere II flaunts its keyboard for Verizon, LG Spectrum 2 confirmed as VS930

Samsung Stratosphere II flaunts its keyboard for Verizon, LG Spectrum 2 confirmed as VS930

We’ve had a successor to the Stratosphere on our radar for a while now, but the expected refresh is now much more tangible, as the Samsung Stratosphere II has just been leaked as part of Verizon’s equipment guide. Other than its QWERTY keyboard, 4-inch Super AMOLED display and LTE connectivity, however, little is known about the Android smartphone. As one point of interest, recent FCC certifications suggest that it’ll support global roaming.

Also revealed in the same equipment guide is the LG Spectrum 2, a localized version of the Optimus LTE II, which you’ve previously known as the VS930. The prevailing wisdom suggests it’ll combine a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 with a 4.7-inch True HD IPS 720p display and Android 4.0.4. Like the Stratosphere II, the refreshed Spectrum is said to support global roaming — just one more reason to take that dream vacation.

LG Spectrum 2 spotted in Verizon’s CelleBrite system

LG Spectrum 2 VerizonIt sure looks like we’ll be seeing the LG Spectrum 2 very soon. After appearing at the FCC and then appearing as a render online, the phone has now shown up on Verizon’s CelleBrite system. Still no word on a release date, but you can bet that Verizon will be making it official pretty soon. The LG Spectrum 2 is the successor to the first Spectrum on Verizon and will feature a 4.7″ True IPS 720p display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, 4G LTE connectivity, and global roaming. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted when we find out more. Anybody looking forward to this phone?

LG Spectrum 2 renders spotted?

LG Spectrum 2While we’ve heard that the original LG Spectrum will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich soon, it might not be the only upgrade to the phone; it looks like LG has plans to replace it with a newer device. The folks over at Techno Buffalo have managed to get their hands on what appears to be a render of a new LG phone – the LG Spectrum 2. Considering that the original Spectrum only came out earlier this year, it seems a bit strange that the OEM is releasing a sequel to the phone.

The LG Spectrum 2 is said to feature a 4.7″ True HD IPS display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, NFC capabilities, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, Verizon 4G LTE connectivity, international GSM and UMTS support for global roaming. No word on a price yet, but I can’t imagine LG Spectrum owners being too pleased at this news if it turns out to be true.

Optimus LTE II makes a cameo on Verizon as LG VS930 (Updated)

Optimus LTE II makes a cameo on Verizon as LG VS930

Oh hello there, LG VS930. This handset — which was caught in the wild by Mr. Blurrycam’s cousin, Ms. Quickiecam — looks an awful lot like an Optimus LTE II for Verizon. This makes even more sense when you consider that its predecessor, the VS920 aka. Spectrum, recently received end-of-life status. According to the anonymous tipster who sent us these pictures, the phone will ship with the following features:

  • Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 SoC
  • 4.7-inch “True HD IPS” display (1280 x 720 pixels)
  • 16GB of built-in storage
  • Global radio support (GSM/UMTS/CDMA/LTE)
  • NFC (it comes with programmable tags)

There’s no word on whether the VS930 will inherit the Optimus LTE II’s 2GB of RAM [see update below] or the VS920’s branding — Spectrum 2 perhaps? We’ll keep you posted when we find out more, like pricing and availability. In the meantime, take a look at the gallery below for some closer shots.

Update: More information is coming to light about the VS930, including a possible July 13th launch and the service manual (PDF link), which contains a ton of photos and information. The 9.2mm (0.36-inches) thick handset features 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel autofocus camera.

[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
