Boosting the battery life on a mobile device is easy; they just need to get a lot thicker. But since none of us are willing to give up our svelte smartphones or tablets, we’ve bought into a life that involves bringing charging cables wherever we go. A hassle that’s now slightly less annoying with these ultra-thin USB cables that can easily slip into the slimmest of pockets.
Dropping an iPad onto a dock is not only an easy way to keep its battery charged, it also props it up so it’s not laying sprawled across your desk wasting valuable real estate. And where as most docks can only accommodate an iPad going au naturel, Belkin’s new Express Dock features a dial ’round back so the Lightning connector can be adjusted, ensuring it makes a connection even if your tablet is sporting a snazzy case.

Bi-Cord Cable w/ Lightning and 30-pin Connectors: Charge & Charge & Sync…& Sync?
Posted in: Today's ChiliApple’s introduction of the Lightning connector means that people like me who have both a new and an old iOS device have more cables to keep track of and less USB ports to plug them into. If you’re looking for a simple and cheap solution, have a look at the Bi-Cord. But just look at it, don’t put down money for it just yet.
The Bi-Cord has a USB connector at one end. Then it splits into two cords, one with a 30-pin connector and one with a Lightning connector. Future versions could have connectors for other devices such as a micro-USB. Its inventor, Patrick Graham, claims that the Bi-Cord can be used to charge two devices at once. What I don’t know is if the cord can also sync two devices at once. The cords are each 6′ long and are made of braided nylon for added durability.
Pledge at least $15 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a Bi-Cord as a reward. On one hand, that’s a good deal, considering Apple sells its cables for $19 each. On the other hand, if I were you I’d wait until Patrick reveals more information about the Bi-Cord’s parts, particularly if Patrick uses Apple-certified connectors. Because if the connectors are not certified all we have here could be two broken cables in one.

After more than a year of rumors hinting at its existence, Apple’s lower-cost iPhone is here.
It’s no secret that finding yourself outside and exposed during a thunderstorm greatly enhances your risk of being struck by lightning. But it turns out there are some simple tricks you can use to increase your chances of survival if the clouds do decide to strike you from above.
If you take the power consumption of your mobile devices serious, then you probably travel with your charging cable everywhere you go just in case you need an extra bit of juice to make it through your day. It’s easy to forget to throw a cable into your backpack or purse when you’re rushed, but this new iPhone 5 case makes it easy to have a Lightning cable readily available at all times. (more…)
