Who knew a sad story told through water drops can be so fun to watch? This stop motion animation called Cachoeira (which means waterfall in Portuguese) by Rodrigo EBA! is illustrated with a little droplet man in a little droplet car trying to take a dip in a little droplet waterfall. I find it adorable.
It’s not supposed to be that hard to figure out if something is liquid or if something is solid. If it flows like water, it’s liquid. If it stays relatively still, it’s solid. But what if it’s a substance that breaks the laws of normal behavior and is both liquid and solid? Like non-Newtonian fluids?
Here’s something you will want in your closet: clothes that never stain. Hell, they never even get wet. This Silic T-shirt basically cleans itself with hydrophobic nanotechnology. That means no matter what you spill on it, it’ll never damage the shirt.
It might look more like an engine from an aging car than a piece of engineering fit for space, but this machine was a pioneering piece of apparatus that allowed astronauts to experiment with fluids in space.
Acer Liquid S2 hands-on
Posted in: Today's ChiliAcer is known for its influence in the PC and tablet markets, but it actually have a pretty solid Android smartphone lineup too — and the company is starting to focus more intensely on it. Take the Acer Liquid S2, for instance: it’s a 6-inch Android smartphone with 4K recording capability, a Snapdragon 800 processor and a 13MP camera, and we had the opportunity to check it out here in Berlin ahead of IFA 2013.
The unit, which is hitting Europe in October for 549 euros, will come in both black and red hues. Reps indicated to that the units they had on hand are still pre-production, so both firmware and hardware are subject to change between now and the phone’s launch. With that said, we didn’t notice any bugs or issues with general performance, but let’s face it: even when it’s not fully optimized, a device packing Snapdragon 800 still feels incredibly fast. Head past the break for our first impressions.%Gallery-slideshow77217%

Can Humans Breathe Liquid?
Posted in: Today's ChiliDeep water and the unprotected human body don’t play well together—like, at all. But what if there were a way to get around the body’s chemical limitations, a means of deep diving without the bends or lengthy decompression? Actually, there is. And we’ve almost figured out how to do it without killing ourselves in the process.
Usually, if you cool any substance down enough it will turn into a solid—the most stable state of matter that exists, according to traditional physics. But that could all be about to change, because researchers have discovered a weird new liquid state that’s more stable than a solid crystal.
ABC News is reporting that al Qaeda has come up with a "new generation of liquid explosives" for a potential attack. The scary thing is that the bomb "would not be detected by current security measures". Even scarier is that a US official called the new method "ingenious". Well, then.
Soda is teeth sweeteningly delicious. That is undeniable. Slushies capture all that is good with soda but adds tongue tingling snowflakes into the mix. It’s absolutely perfect for the summer. But how can we soda sipping peasants experience the rare beauty of slushies at home? With a little bit of magic and a bit more of science.
This Isn’t a Christmas Decoration
Posted in: Today's Chili This isn’t a trippy Christmas decoration. Nor is it some form of modern art take on a flower. In fact, it’s the result of something much more technical—and it’s even won an award for its beauty. More »
