Acer announces 6-inch Liquid S2, ‘first 4K-recording smartphone’

Compared to many other companies, Acer’s taken a rather cautious approach to super-sized phones. Its first attempt was the 5.7-inch Liquid S1, a rather straightforward Android handset unveiled back in June at Computex. The second time around, though, the company’s taking a more ambitious approach, announcing the 6-inch Liquid S2 with 4K recording capability, a full HD IPS display and a Snapdragon 800 processor.

Acer’s touting the S2 as the first phone to offer this 4K functionality, though all signs point to Samsung’s next Galaxy Note shipping with the same feature. The device sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED ring flash along with a 2MP front shooter capable of 1080p video. The company’s also loaded up the S2 with several software enhancements on the camera side. For one, a “quick first shot” feature lets you snap a picture right from the phone’s unlock screen, and you have the ability to adjust focus and exposure separately. There’s also a “favorite mode,” which lets you create up to five profiles with customized settings and effects.

Acer Liquid S2 Phablet Spotted In Benchmarks

Acer Liquid S2 Phablet Spotted In BenchmarksAcer has primarily been known for their computer offerings, although the company has attempted to enter the mobile market with tablets and smartphones, with the latter typically featuring rather uninspired hardware and design, like the Liquid Z3 being one of them. The company has also attempted a phablet of its own earlier this with the Liquid S1 and if you recall earlier rumors, a Liquid S2 could be on its way, and recent benchmark sightings might have revealed and “confirmed” some of its alleged specifications.

According to the benchmark, the Acer Liquid S2 device will sport a 6” 1920×1080 Full HD IPS display. It could also be powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset which is definitely no slouch, and has been rumored to power Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 3 phablet as well. It will also sport 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, a 13MP, NFC connectivity, and according to the benchmark, is running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The last bit is a strange given that the leaked roadmap suggested Android Key Lime Pie as its OS of choice, but perhaps it could be upgraded before it is released.

No word on when Acer plans to launch the Liquid S2, but it has been rumored for a potential launch later this year. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Not too shabby, huh?

Acer Liquid S2 Revealed In Alleged Leaked Roadmap

Acer Liquid S2 Revealed In Alleged Leaked RoadmapWhile Acer might be known for their Windows tablets and attempts at Windows Phone devices, the company has recently been attempting Android devices of their own, such as the recently announced Acer Liquid Z3 and the Liquid S1 phablet that revealed back in June. While the Liquid S1 phablet has yet to catch on in a big way, it seems that Acer has already been planning its successor and thanks to a recently leaked roadmap, it has been revealed that a certain Acer Liquid S2 could be launched in August.

According to the alleged specs of the Acer Liquid S2, it looks like another phablet device that Acer has up their sleeves. The Liquid S2, based on the leaked roadmap, will sport a 5.98” Full HD IPS display with 16GB of onboard storage, 2GB of RAM, and will be powered by a 2.3GHz processor although its manufacturer remains unknown. The phone is also expected to sport NFC connectivity and while presumably it will run on Android, the roadmap mentions a certain “K OS” which some have taken to mean Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

We’re not sure if the August 2013 launch is accurate, especially since it’s been about two months since the S1 was introduced, but then again there’s not telling if this roadmap is genuine to begin with, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
