Livestream may have been stepping out of its comfort zone with the introduction of hardware tailored for prosumers. That being said, the company’s still working hard on expanding its bread and butter: video streaming — and what better way to do so than by being available on Roku, a streaming platform that’s thriving in more ways than one. Today, the Livestream channel will be making its debut on the tiny player, giving viewers access to a vast amount of internet-based programming. Of course, this includes live (and archived) sporting events, concerts, red carpets and broadcasts from more than 60 local US news stations. “For us, connected TVs was the next piece of the puzzle,” Livestream CEO Max Haot told us, adding that coming to the Roku is only the start of what he believes “will be many future developments on bringing Livestream to living rooms worldwide.”%Gallery-slideshow79380%

Seems like whenever a star is discovered, it’s just a countdown until the inevitable crash and burn. It happened to Lindsay Lohan and Macaulay Culkin, and tonight it’s happening to the just-spotted star Nova Del 2013. Located yesterday by an amateur astronomer, the erupting white dwarf is getting brighter and hotter as it heads for a violent nova explosion, and Slooh Space Camera is livestreaming the whole stellar meltdown.

A new channel has just popped up on Apple TV for its WWDC 2013 Keynote, meaning that a livestream of the big event will be available for viewing there — just like last time. The HD stream will kick off at 10AM Pacific time, and there’s a chance you’ll see it on Apple’s Events page as well, if history repeats itself. You can also catch past extravaganzas at either spot (see the More Coverage link), and naturally, we’ll have a full liveblog of our own — so there’s no chance you’ll miss any of the fun.

Update: The WWDC 2013 Keynote livestream link has now arrived to Apple’s Events page as well (at the source, below), though you’ll need to be on Safari 4 with OS X 10.6 or Safari on iOS 4.2 at a minimum to watch it.

In between watching giraffes fight and people who can’t parallel park, you’ll find a new attraction on YouTube this week: live streams from members of US Congress. Today, the video-sharing website announced that all federal legislators will receive the ability to tap into advanced features on their YouTube channels, and yes, this includes the ability to pop off about the opposition party at a moment’s notice. Naturally, YouTube is no stranger to public service, as it’s served up similar live streams of both the DNC and RNC, the State of the Union address, and most recently, Coachella. It seems that C-SPAN’s turf is safe for the time being, however, as you won’t yet find live daily coverage of congressional sessions. As a consolation, you can hit the break for the giraffes… which is eerily similar to watching Congress.

Say goodbye to the passé virtual aquarium. Animal Planet has launched a collection of 11 HD 24/7 Ustream-powered live streams under the banner Animal Planet L!VE, which feature animals ranging from beluga whales to cockroaches. The free critter footage is already being piped to APL.tv and Samsung Smart TVs Viewers can choose between watching ants, calves, chicks, cockroaches, beluga whales, fish swimming about in a pacific coral reef, kittens, penguins, puppies, sea nettles and wild birds. In case catching them on your smart TV or browser weren’t enough, the cable channel’s creature casts are coming to Roku and Xbox Live “in the coming months.”
