Logitech’s FabricSkin keyboard folio for iPad will shrug off spills for $149 (video)

Logitech's FabricSkin keyboard folio for iPad will shrug off spills for $149 (video)

When Logitech announced keyboard folios for the iPad and iPad Mini less than a month ago, it thought it had all bases covered: keyboard, stand, cover. One important group of people weren’t considered in the design brief, however: so-called spillers, those with an uncanny ability to bring gadgets and beverages together. It’s no wonder, then, that Logitech has been quick to come up with the FabricSkin keyboard folio to cater for this demographic. In addition to the “liquid-repellent FabricSkin surface” that coats the folio, there are a couple of new color schemes to choose from, and the Bluetooth keyboard is now without openings, similar to the Surface Touch Cover, so fluid can’t work its way in between the keys. You’ll be paying a premium for that peace of mind, though, as the FabricSkin folio for the iPad 2 and up (no iPad Mini version), set to launch in May, is now available to pre-order from Logitech for $149 (or £129) — $50 more than the standard cover. Still, if there’s a good chance you’d hydrate a normal folio eventually, the FabricSkin model is almost like getting a replacement at half price. We’ll drink to that.

Logitech FabricSkin Keyboard Folio borrows Surface RT style for iPad

Keyboard cases for the iPad are nothing new, there are plenty of them on the market today. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for new offerings that are either easier-to-use, better looking, or more durable. Logitech has unveiled a new keyboard cover called the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio that brings the style of the Microsoft Surface RT to your iPad.

The keyboard folio is available in multiple colors including Mars Red Orange, Carbon Black, Mystic Blue, and Sunflower Yellow. The design of the new keyboard case protects the iPad on the front and the back with a wraparound design. Logitech equips the device with a magnetic clasp to keep the folio closed when you’re traveling.

The keyboard folio also has an integrated magnetic stand to allow you to prop the screen of your tablet up for comfortable typing or lay it flat depending on your needs. The keyboard section connects to your tablet using Bluetooth and the keyboard is spill resistant. The FabricSkin Keyboard has magnets on the edges near the iPad frame that automatically puts the iPad to sleep when you close the folio and wakes it up when you open the cover.

Power for the rechargeable keyboard comes from an internal rechargeable battery that charges using a USB port. Logitech claims you can get three months of usable battery life on a single full charge. The retail price for the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is $149.99. You can pre-order the keyboard folio right now but the shipping date is unknown. The case is designed to work with the iPad 2 and third and fourth generation iPad tablets.

Logitech Wireless Headset H820e comes equipped with enterprise-grade audio features

The Logitech Wireless Headset H820e is the next headset in Logitech’s arsenal to offer enterprise-grade performance features at an affordable price-point. The H820e is similar to the H650e released last month, minus the cord. It promises up to 10 hours of usage before the user needs to recharge it, and it comes with a variety of features that will allow you to communicate in most work environments.

Logitech Wireless Headset H820e come with enterprise-grade audio features

The H820e is designed for unified communications and PC-based soft-phones. It has a noise-cancelling microphone, acoustic echo cancellation, and DSP (digital signal processing). It also features an in-call LED indicator located at the back of the microphone that will warn others if you’re in a voice call. There are volume control buttons located on both sides of the headset that will allow users to easily adjust their volume in-call.

The Logitech Wireless Headset H820e is optimized for Microsoft Lync, as well as other platforms, such as Cisco’s networking apps. The H820e has a wireless range of 300 feet, and can fend off interference from WiFi signals. Users can adjust the wide band/narrow band switch so that they can choose what audio quality and density is right for them. Eric Kintz, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Logitech for Business, issued a statement saying,

“We’re looking to change the attitude that wireless headsets in the enterprise are an afterthought or a perk. Premium audio quality is essential in today’s anywhere workplace, where employees are connecting with each other in open spaces, from the road and from home, and people can do more when they aren’t tethered to their desks. Wireless headsets are rapidly becoming the ‘new normal’ for maximizing audio and video collaboration.”

The Logitech Wireless Headset H820e will come in two models. The ‘Mono’ model will be available for $179.99, while the ‘Dual’ model will be available for $199.99. The headsets will become available in May. According to a survey, many companies are switching from the traditional desk phone to headsets. To take advantage of this market trend, Logitech plans on releasing many more of these enterprise-grade wireless accessories.

Logitech Harmony Ultimate and Logitech Harmony Smart Control announced

Swiss-based computer peripherals manufacturer Logitech is back this time around, and they have a couple of devices for you to go through which should make life a whole lot easier and convenient, especially when you are one with so many different devices at home that keeping track of which remote control is used to control what ends up as a headache. The two candidates to fall under today’s news spotlight would be the Logitech Harmony Ultimate and Logitech Harmony Smart Control.

It does not matter whether you have finally decided to fall back on the Logitech Harmony Ultimate or the Logitech Harmony Smart Control, both of these devices will feature Logitech’s new Harmony Hub and Harmony Smartphone App that paves the way for closed-cabinet and game console control. Not only that, it also marks the first time that the Harmony is even capable of helping you set the mood in your living room, as the Harmony Hub will take personalizing your activities to a totally new level as it can take full control of your Philips Hue lights with but a single touch of the Logitech Harmony Ultimate.

A simple touch is all it takes for your remote control to turn on your TV, to boot up the Blu-ray player, and perhaps dim the lights to the desired brightness level or temperature as you begin to unwind after a particularly difficult day at work. With the help of the Logitech Harmony Ultimate in the palm of your hands, you are also capable of gaining access to the slew of your entertainment devices, where among them include infrared devices and game consoles, through your cabinets, walls or other kinds of obstacles. When you throw in the optional Harmony Smartphone App, it does not take a genius living under the same roof as you to transform the smartphone or tablet into a personal universal remote.

Logitech Harmony Ultimate Universal Remote Control: One Remote to Rule Them All

I don’t have a complicated home theater system in my home, but we do have several components that require you to change inputs to be able to play games, watch movies, or check out Netflix. The problem I always had was that nobody seemed to be able to remember which input went with which device but me. That meant I always had to come change inputs for everybody and that got really irritating.

I ended up buying a Harmony One universal remote control that had macros with a single button you press to change all those inputs depending on what you want to do. It continues to be one of the best things I ever purchased. Logitech has unveiled a new generation Harmony remote control called the Harmony Ultimate.

harmony ultimate

The Ultimate shares many of the same features as my Harmony One including those one-button macros. It also has a 2.4-inch color touchscreen. The Harmony Ultimate also has some other cool tricks up its sleeve. For instance, it will work components even behind closed cabinet or closet doors. The best part is that it also supports Bluetooth so you can use this remote control your PS3 or other game console. It also supports control of Philips Hue LED light bulbs to allow you to control brightness and color of the wireless bulbs.

Logitech plans to launch the Harmony Ultimate this month in the US for $349.99(USD).
