Caption contest: Luigi puts the ‘L’ in Chicago’s public transit system

Image

Has Nintendo of America fallen on hard times? Why else would the company make one of its most beloved characters (or, at the very least, the brother of one of its most beloved characters) take Windy City public transit? Oh, that’s right, the gaming giant has decked out the “L” train with ads for its new Super Luigi U title. The mustachioed plumber is riding the Brown Line in this Twitter shot, so be sure to be on the lookout for suspicious looking dinosaurs in the area (if you see something, say something). No word on whether he’ll be making house calls today.

Nintendo Japan announces white 32GB Wii U, Wiimote quick charger

Nintendo Japan announces white 32GB Wii U, Wiimote quick charger, special Luigi edition 3DS XL and

An official extended battery for its Wii U Gamepad isn’t the only thing Nintendo Japan posted on its website tonight, as it also added a white option for the Wii U 32GB Premium set, a 30th Anniversary Luigi special edition 3DS XL and quick charging option for the Wiimote. Surveys surfaced earlier this year suggesting a fast charging option on the way for the Wiimote, and in Japan gamers will be able to add the accessory — consisting of replacement battery / backplate and charging stand, pictured after the break — starting July 13th for 4,200 yen ($41) , and 2,625 yen ($26) for the battery alone. That should allow not only faster charging, but also longer battery life than Wii gamers have been used to.

July 13th is the same day the white Wii U premium will arrive as well, coming at the same price and packing the same accessories as the existing black 32GB console. Finally, Nintendo listed all the details for the special Luigi edition 3DS XL announced recently on Nintendo Direct. Of course, none of these are the games that even Iwata admits the Wii U needs, but a few more choices can’t hurt, can they?

Real Life Mario Kart Drivers Spotted On Japan Freeway

Real Life Mario Kart Drivers Spotted On Japan Freeway

Over the years, we’ve seen people take their love for Mario Kart to the streets with even students at MIT joining in on the Mario Kart fun. But leave it to Japan to take something like a real-life Mario Kart and completely take it to the next level.

The two Mario Kart fans were spotted on the mean streets somewhere in Japan by a friend of Redditor justicefreedomlogic. Both “Mario” and “Luigi” were seen zipping down a freeway in Mario Kart-inspired vehicles that resembled the very karts both Mario and Luigi drive in their respective game series. Not only were their karts decked out in a Mario and Luigi paint scheme, but both drivers even dressed up as the iconic characters during their drive. (more…)

Luigi-Themed Nintendo 3DS XL Headed To Japan On July 18

Luigi Themed Nintendo 3DS XL Headed To Japan On July 18

We know after yesterday’s onslaught of Nintendo-related news due to their Nintendo Direct presentation, you’re probably filled up on Nintendo stories for the rest of the month. But this is one Nintendo-related story we just couldn’t help but pass up. Nintendo announced it would be bundling a special 3DS XL with Animal Crossing: New Leaf on June 9, but Japan seems to be getting a much cooler bundle this summer.

The 3DS XL that will be receiving the bundle treatment is completely covered in various silhouettes of everyone’s second-favorite Mario brother, Luigi. The 3DS XL will be bundled with a 4GB SD card as well as a pre-installed copy of Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, which we know Luigi will play a rather large role in. The bundle will be made available on July 18, which is when Mario and Luigi: Dream Team will be released as well. Luigi edition Nintendo 3DS LL gives Mario’s brother his due, but only in Japan

Nintendo 3DS LL Luigi edition

There must be some kind of unstated rule that Nintendo can never give the US a special edition handheld without releasing some Japan-focused models. While the company was busy promising Americans an Animal Crossing 3DS XL of their very own, it was also introducing a Luigi edition 3DS LL for its home country as part of its “Year of Luigi” theme — not fair, Nintendo. The system is decked out in a camouflage-like pattern that pays tribute to Mario’s oft-neglected sibling, and it should ship with a preloaded copy of Mario and Luigi: Dream Team just to drive the point home. Local gamers will get the distinctly-patterned 3DS LL on June 18th, but there’s no word on an XL equivalent for the US so far. We’ll just have to make do with Mario-colored devices instead.

Mario & Luigi Dream Team Releasing On Nintendo 3DS August 11

Mario & Luigi Dream Team Releasing On Nintendo 3DS August 11

A new Mario & Luigi RPG game is headed to the Nintendo 3DS this year, which if you’ve ever experienced any of these games that were released on various Nintendo systems, you’ll know it has been a favorite series for both Nintendo and RPG fans alike. Mario & Luigi Dream Team is the name of the game and Nintendo announced this morning the game will be made available on the Nintendo 3DS on August 11.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata not only announced the game’s release date, but he also gave some information on the game’s story. Mario & Luigi Dream Team takes place on Pillow Island as Mario and friends are visiting for a tour. As you would expect, Princess Peach gets kidnapped once again and is taken into a dream world. The only way Mario and Luigi can help her is by entering the dream world which can only be accessed when Luigi sleeps on a magical pillow. When Luigi is asleep, you’ll be able to manipulate the game world by manipulating Luigi’s face in the lower portion of the 3DS.

Nintendo – Nintendo prepaid cards with extra fun bonus where Mario characters come alive!

Nintendo will add a new version of its prepaid card usable at it’s online software download site, e-shop, for 3DS and Wii U. It’s a prepaid card with extra fun bonus called “Asoberu Omaketsuki Nintendo Prepaid Card” (meaning “with playable bonus” in Japanese). It will be out on April 23.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Comes to Nintendo 3DS Tomorrow

Nintendo is kicking off its year of Luigi with the announcement that a new video game for the Nintendo 3DS portable console will be launching this weekend. The new game is called Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. The game is a follow-up to the popular 2001 GameCube title Luigi’s Mansion.

Dark Moon will follow Luigi as he explores more mansions and captures more ghosts while searching for even more treasure. The game will see Luigi exploring unique mansions with colorful 3D visuals. Each of the mansions is filled with ghosts that Luigi will capture using his special vacuum cleaner (which he clearly borrowed from the Ghostbusters.)

Players will also be able to take advantage of a number of new unique abilities to complete their missions. The goal is to find missing pieces of the Dark Moon to win the game. Individual missions in the game can be replayed to earn higher scores by collecting more treasure or by losing less health. Nintendo says that almost every object in the rooms of the mansion can be interacted with.

Nintendo plans to launch multiple games featuring Luigi this year as part of its celebration of Mario’s younger brother. You can pre-order Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon over on Amazon for $39.99(USD).

Mario and Luigi as Ghostbusters: Who Ya Gonna Call?

I think we finally have a worthy idea for the next Ghostbusters film, based on this work of fine geek art. Imagine Mario and Luigi Ghostbusting and saving Peach from Boo in the haunted castle.
mario ghostbusters
This awesome painting is the work of artist joehavasy who makes all kinds of cool geek art. Being a fan of both Super Mario games and Ghostbusters, this mash-up makes complete sense to me – and I for one, would love to see a live-action version of this painting on the big screen. It took over a month to paint and measures 20 x 30″. It’s painted on a piece of birch wood with a wooden frame backing it.

The beam of light was painted with a fluorescent paint that even gives off a glow in darker rooms and Boo’s tongue has some gloss medium on it so that it actually looks wet as well. This painting will cost you $1,200(USD). That’s a whole lot of gold coins, but I still think it’s totally worth it.
