How would you change Nokia’s Lumia 610?

How would you change Nokias Lumia 620

A step too far? Perhaps. By iterating its Windows Phone range so much, it’s difficult to see why one low-end Lumia is better than the other. The principal nitpick of Nokia’s Lumia 610, is that its dwarfed by the similarly-priced yet better-specced 710. But does it do the job as an ultra-budget handset? Well, this is your opportunity to tell us, you never know, maybe some of the folks from Finland are reading what you say, too.

Nokia Lumia 610 To Get Angry Birds?

nokia lumia 610 fcc Nokia Lumia 610 To Get Angry Birds? It seems that Rovio’s hugely successful gaming franchise that is known as Angry Birds might have made its way to yet another platform that is known as the Nokia Lumia 610. Are there no platforms that are not sacred to this avian flinging title? Not really, and Angry Birds fans who own a Nokia Lumia 610 would definitely be more than happy to hear this from the grapevine.

In fact, back in May earlier this year, Rovio was mentioned to be working on an optimized version of Angry Birds for the Nokia Lumia 610, and I guess the fruit of their labor is finally ready to be shown to the world, never mind the fact that it has been a good half year worth of waiting. We do understand that Rovio has successfully optimized all versions of the Angry Birds titles in order for it to play nice with the RAM memory limits of the Lumia 610.

There was no additional information available on just how soon the Angry Birds titles will be available, as the Lumia 610 still gets shown a “unavailable for your device” message, so it might take some more time before the optimized versions show off its feathers in the Store.

The Engadget Interview (captured with Lumia 920): Nokia CEO Stephen Elop on WP8 and beyond

The Engadget Interview Nokia CEO Stephen Elop shot with the Lumia 920

Do you know what’s better than one interview with Stephen Elop? Two interviews in one month. We’d barely recovered from yesterday’s bout of nostalgia when we were given the opportunity to sit down with Nokia’s CEO in his office at the company’s HQ. Better yet, we were allowed to record the discussion with a hand-held Lumia 920 prototype. The resulting video is remarkably stable. Full disclosure: the audio was recorded with a shotgun mic mounted on a Sony NEX-C3 camera.

We talked about HTC’s colorful “signature” Windows Phone 8X and 8S and what that means for the Nokia-Microsoft partnership. Next we asked if Nokia is planning to work with carriers to offer incentives for existing Lumia owners to upgrade to the company’s 920 and 820 handsets. Finally, we discussed the evolution of PureView imaging technology from the 808 to the 920 and how Nokia plans to combine these building blocks in the future. Hit the break for our video interview.

Nokia reaffirms WP 7.8 support for existing Lumia handsets, announces handful of features

Nokia’s legacy Lumia devices won’t be graced with Windows Phone 8, but the company has reaffirmed its support for keeping them fresh with version 7.8 of Microsoft’s handset OS. In addition to a revamped start screen, the introduction of City Lens and other expected perks, Espoo is tossing in a few extras. Among the new additions are the Cinemagraph GIF creator, a ringtone maker app, updates to Smart Group Shot and Bluetooth support for both file transfers and the firm’s Contact Share application. Yearning to load up your smartphone with the raft of new features? Elop and Co. say the upgrades will be be rolled out in phases for the Lumia 610, 710, 800 and 900 models, but promise more details when their ETAs close in.

Nokia and Quicksilver launch special edition Lumia 610

Lumia 610 QuiksilverNokia seems to have a lot of promotional tie-ins with its Nokia Lumia phones. Not too long ago the company was promoting the Lumia 900 with The Dark Knight Rises movie, and now it looks like they’re at it again with a limited edition Lumia 610. This time in conjunction with Quiksilver,  the phone isn’t vey different from the original Lumia 610 – you just get 20 Quiksilver wallpapers, a different rear case and the Quiksilver logo on the front of your phone.

I can’t see anyone but hardcore Quiksilver fans picking up this device, but it probably won’t arrive on this side of the world. Anyway, it’s a limited edition device so it’ll probably move units regardless. After all, nothing screams “pick me up!” louder than a limited edition of anything. Check out this promo video for the phone below:
