Lumia Black Update Released For AT&T Lumia 920 And 820

Lumia Black Update Released For AT&T Lumia 920 And 820

Even though Nokia has released better successors for these smartphones, for some Windows Phone users the love affair with Microsoft’s mobile operating system started with the Lumia 920 as well as the Lumia 820, whereas the emerging markets fell head over heels for Lumia 520. After announcing their successors last year the company confirmed it will roll out a major update for these smartphones and today it has finally followed through on its promise. The Lumia Black update for AT&T Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 smartphones has been released.

AT&T Rolling Out Amber Update For Nokia Lumia 820, 920

AT&T Rolling Out Amber Update For Nokia Lumia 820, 920

AT&T had claimed the long-awaited Amber update for the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 was going to be released on October 10. We were wary about the news considering there was no official press release from either AT&T nor Nokia regarding the upcoming update, but it looks like the U.S. carrier stuck to their word as the Amber update is now available for you Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 owners to download. AT&T Claims GDR2 And Amber Update Is Ready For Lumia 820 And 920

AT&T Claims GDR2 And Amber Update Is Ready For Lumia 820 And 920It seems that AT&T, over on their support forums, have shed some more light (some might even call it a confirmation) that the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 operating system update as well as its accompanying Amber firmware from Nokia is ready to rock and roll for both the Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 smartphones. The estimated time of arrival for the GDR2 update? Well, it has been slated for October 10th – which is basically tomorrow. Of course, one ought to be careful with such news, as there has been no official AT&T or Nokia press release to reflect this news, but a Community Manager did post up such information that you can read below.

AT&T has completed testing the Nokia Lumia 820/920 Windows Phone software update on our network. We expect Microsoft to make the update available beginning 10/10. When the software update is available for you to download, Windows Phone will notify you so you can download it directly over a Wi-Fi connection. We appreciate your patience.

It does sound like the real deal, but as usual, until there is an official press release or announcement, we will just have to take this with a grain of salt. A small grain this time around, of course.

Windows Phone GDR2 Update For Lumia 820/920 Spotted On Nokia’s Servers

Windows Phone GDR2 Update For Lumia 820/920 Spotted On Nokias ServersIf you own a Nokia Lumia 820 or Lumia 920 device, you might be pleased to learn that according to a smattering of reports, the Windows Phone GDR2 update for either device has been spotted in Nokia’s servers. What this means is that for those who might be too impatient to wait for their carrier or Nokia to begin rolling out the update to users, you can go ahead and download the updates manually and flash them onto your device yourself.

What this also means is that by flashing the update, you’re effectively wiping your phone and it will be a fresh install, so all the data will be gone and your phone will be as if it just came right out of the box. Of course this isn’t exactly for everyone since we imagine not everyone is tech savvy enough to figure this out on their own, so if you’re unsure about what you’re doing, you might want to hold off on it first. Since the update is already on Nokia’s servers, we can only imagine it won’t be long before it begins making its way to Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 devices.

Unofficial Nokia Lumia 820 And 920 Amber ROMs Available

Unofficial Nokia Lumia 820 And 920 Amber ROMs AvailableShould you happen to own either a Nokia Lumia 820 or the higher end model of that corresponding smartphone generation, the Nokia Lumia 920, then you might be pleased to hear that the Amber update is out a little bit earlier than expected. Sure, this particular update is not the official one, but for those with the intestinal fortitude to give unofficial ROMs a go, you might want to check out the links provided by WindowsMania.pl.

These unofficial Amber ROMs for the Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 920 will upgrade international versions of the respective Windows Phone 8-powered devices to the Amber release, which is ahead of Microsoft’s own rollout timetable. These two ROMs are said to be relatively easy to install from a PC as long as you use NokiaViews.com’s instructions, although as with any unofficial ROM update, there is a certain element of risk attached to it – it requires you to give your phone a clean slate by wiping away all of its data, with no guarantee of future official upgrades. Would you prefer to play the patience card instead?

Visualized: The Lumia wall at Build 2013

Visualized The Lumia wall at Build 2013

What happens when you take 200 Lumia 820s and pin them to a wall? You get a 12,000 x 6,400-pixel display, natch. This week at Build 2013 in San Francisco, Nokia and Microsoft teamed up to show this tiled monitor made of identical phones each running the same custom-built app. A master handset is used to control what’s on the wall by communicating with each phone over WiFi (IP multicast). One demo was showing a massive animated grid of live tiles representing a selection of apps from the Windows Phone store. In another demo, the wall was displaying Bing Maps (using Here data) and being controlled interactively by the master handset. Take a look at our gallery below.

AT&T Offering Nokia Lumia 820 For 1 Cent On Contract

AT&T Offering Nokia Lumia 820 For 1 Cent On ContractMicrosoft’s Windows Phone mobile operating system is a decent operating system and offers iOS and Android users a very different experience from what they are used to. However with the reputation behind iOS and the powerful hardware offered by Android devices, it is understandable that many have opted between either, forsaking Windows Phone in the meantime. However if you’re reaching the end of your contract and you were thinking about trying out a new device, perhaps the Nokia Lumia 820 could be of interest to you.

Granted it’s not the most powerful Windows Phone device right now, but it seems that AT&T has reduced the price of the handset to a mere 1 cent if you were to sign a 2-year contract with them. For those wondering, it was priced at $49.9 before on contract, and $349.99 if you were to buy it unlocked. If you’re wondering what you will be getting for your 1 cent, you can expect a 4.3” WVGA ClearBlack AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, an 8MP camera, and LTE connectivity on AT&T’s network. Not too shabby, right?

Windows Phone 8 Update Activates FM Radio, Double-Tap To Wake On Lumia 920

Windows Phone 8 Update Activates FM Radio, Double Tap To Wake On Lumia 920

Microsoft may have marked July 2014 as the cutoff point to when they’ll stop supporting Windows Phone 8, but until then, they’ll keep cranking out updates to help improve the platform for their customers. The next update Microsoft plans to release for Windows Phone 8 devices will reportedly support FM radio hardware, which was dropped when they introduced Windows Phone 8. The update will allow for handsets that support it, like the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, to support FM radio signals.

In addition to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 update plans, Nokia is also currently planning to improve its Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 handsets by offering a new screen-activation gesture that would have owners double-tapping the screen in order to wake it up when it’s in its standby mode. We’re not sure just how many of you Nokia Lumia owners have been wanting this feature, but it seems like it’s something that will happen in the coming months. We just hope you have your double-tap finger ready for all of the tapping it’ll be doing to wake your Lumia up, or this new feature could certainly result some serious injury.

Nokia To Offer Software Updates For Lumia 920, Lumia 820, And Lumia 620

Nokia To Offer Software Updates For Lumia 920, Lumia 820, And Lumia 620If you so happen to be a loyal fan of the Finnish phone company Nokia, then chances are you are most probably rocking to a Windows Phone 8 device, or you could have fallen on hard times and are stuck with an older generation Windows Phone 7.5 device. Well, it would bode you well to perform an “upgrade” then by purchasing a newer handset, be it the Nokia Lumia 920, the Nokia Lumia 820, or even the more entry level Nokia Lumia 620. Why? Well, Nokia has just announced that they will be rolling out software updates for the above mentioned trio. It will not be a major update of sorts, but like what we believe, it would always be better if your smartphone had the latest firmware running on it, as that would (normally) make it run at its most efficient. Of course, there were times in the past where “duds” appeared, and the latest update had to be pulled back, but those moments are few and far in between.

Both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be on the receiving of an update to software version 1232.5957.1308.00xx, where it will include performance and stability enhancements, enhanced automatic display brightness adjustment, and better display stability during calls. The Lumia 620 that was recently launched will see its software version hit 1030.6407.1308.00xx, where it is touted to deliver system stability improvements, enhanced touch behavior, and camera picture quality fixes.

Nokia Lumia 820 Shell Printed In Pikachu 3D

Nokia Lumia 820 Shell Printed In Pikachu 3DWho can forget about the adorable yellow pocket monster that captured the imagination of millions of kids in the past (while causing seizures in some through the flashing of light in the Pokemon cartoons, of course)? Pikachu, the electric Pokemon, has not lost his sense of appeal to the younger generation even until today, and he has been given the “honor” of appearing on a 3D printed Nokia Lumia 820 shell.

It is nice to know that the buttons of this 3D printed handset shell comes in a shade of yellow, which is always a good thing, and of course, the most obvious choice of color for the entire shell would have been yellow instead of blue that you see above. Just what kind of mischief or ideas do you have when it comes to a 3D printer? Folks who already own a 3D printer in their homes or offices, you might want to consider cranking out those creative juices of yours and start a new trend. Who knows, you might actually be on to something here?
