Lumia Icon Power Button Unresponsive After Windows Phone 8.1 Update

Lumia Icon Power Button Unresponsive After Windows Phone 8.1 UpdateWindows Phone 8.1 has yet to be released to the masses. As it stands only a Developer Preview has been released but at the same time, we’re sure more than a fair share of Windows Phone users have downloaded it anyway. That being said it seems that there are reports of how Windows Phone 8.1 has affected Nokia Lumia devices in a bad way.

According to reports, some Nokia Lumia users are experiencing issues with the power button. To be specific, the Lumia handsets affected are the Nokia Lumia Icon handsets where the power button is being unresponsive. Some have reported that it now takes about 2-3 presses of the power button in order to wake up the handset.

Assuming that this is affecting your handset, it looks like you will have to reboot your handset. For Lumia Icon users, this involves holding down the volume down and power button together for about 15 seconds, after which the phone should reboot itself. Hopefully this is an issue that Microsoft has been notified about because the last thing Microsoft would want is for the update to break any devices.

This is currently the second problem that we’re hearing about the Windows Phone 8.1 update. Previously there was a report about how Cortana could not set the alarm on Windows Phone devices, instead issuing an error message. However we should note that this is the developer preview and that the final version has yet to make its way to end-users, so hopefully Microsoft will deal with all these bugs and issues before then.

Nokia Lumia Icon Undergoes Battery Tests

Nokia Lumia Icon Undergoes Battery TestsEarlier this year, Nokia announced the Lumia Icon, a handset that is an exclusive for Verizon (although some say that an international variant in the form of the Lumia 930 could be on its way). For those unfamiliar, the Lumia Icon is essentially a smaller version of the Lumia 1520 with a more manageable 5-inch display versus the Lumia 1520’s 6-inch.

Essentially this has the power of the Lumia 1520 packed into a smaller body for those who prefer something not of the phablet variety. However to make the device smaller, Nokia did have to make a couple of concessions, one of which was putting a smaller 2,420mAh battery inside versus the Lumia 1520’s 3,400mAh. (more…)

Lumia Icon/Lumia 929 Could Soon See A Release Worldwide

Lumia Icon/Lumia 929 Could Soon See A Release WorldwideA couple of weeks ago, Nokia and Verizon announced the Lumia Icon handset, which at that time was pegged as a Verizon exclusive. Well the good news for those looking to get their hands on te device is that perhaps the exclusivity with Verizon might not be forever after all. According to the folks at TechnoBuffalo, they are claiming that according to their sources, the Lumia Icon will be making its way to the rest of the world at a later date. While no specific dates were mentioned, their sources expect that to take place sometime in late spring or summer and it will definitely be after Microsoft finalizes their acquisition of the company.

Hopefully by then the handset will be launched with Windows Phone 8.1 on board. However the handset will most likely retail as the Nokia Lumia 929 as the Lumia Icon branding will remain as an exclusive with Verizon. For those hearing about the Lumia Icon for the first time, the handset is essentially a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. It will pack high-end features like a Full HD display, a quad-core processor, a 20MP PureView camera with Carl Zeiss lens, and will come with a host of Nokia and Microsoft services, including 7GB of cloud storage on Microsoft’s OneDrive. So, who else is excited to get their hands on the Lumia 929 once it has been released for everyone else?

Microsoft Throwing In Free Wireless Charger With Lumia Icon Purchase

Microsoft Throwing In Free Wireless Charger With Lumia Icon PurchaseEarlier it was reported that the Nokia Lumia Icon had officially gone on sale and interested customers would be able to get their hands on the device via Verizon’s website. However there are alternative places where you might be able to get the handset, which is either via the Microsoft Store online, or head on over to a physical Microsoft retail store. Why would you do that when you can go straight to Verizon, you ask? Well it seems that Microsoft has decided to make the Lumia Icon a tad more attractive as the company will be throwing in a free Nokia wireless charging plate worth anywhere between $30-$50.

This offer is valid from now until the 16th of March, so if you are still on the fence about the handset, perhaps this will change your mind. However like we said earlier, this deal will only be valid for customers who purchase it via Microsoft’s retail outlets (either physical or online), so that’s something to take note of as Verizon will probably not offer you the same deal. In fact this is a pretty good deal as wireless charging can come in handy, especially if you don’t like having to keep plugging and unplugging the charger cable on your phone. So, any takers?

Nokia Lumia Icon is their latest smartphone

nokia-lumia-iconNokia, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer who once looked as though they could not put a foot wrong in their utter dominance of the mobile phone world, has fallen to such depths that were previously unimaginable – until Microsoft came along to pick up the mobile segment of the company, where it has gained quite a respectable market share over the past couple of years with the Windows Phone platform. Of course, Windows Phone 8 is still far away from usurping iOS and Android as the mobile operating platforms of choice, but it is growing. Nokia’s latest entry to the smartphone market comes in the form of the Nokia Lumia Icon, where it will be a Verizon Wireless exclusive in the United States.

This latest Lumia was specially constructed for those who want more from their handsets and yet do not want to compromise when it comes to just how the smartphone is used to capture all of the special moments in one’s daily life. The Full HD display, at 5” and 441ppi pixel density, is certainly a sight to behold, while the thin and light frame which is made out of aluminum and accompanied by ceramic keys are also easy on the hands and pleasing to the eye. The Nokia Lumia Icon would tip the scales at just 5.8 oz, where it measures 5.39” x 2.79” x 0.39”.

At the back, you will find a crystal-clear 20-megapixel camera that will draw its inspiration from Nokia’s award-winning PureView technology and Zeiss optics. If you are an avid fan of video recording, then you would not have any problem at all with the Nokia Lumia Icon, since it also boasts of four lossless microphones which are able to capture omnidirectional audio in full stereo, ensuring your viewers will think as though they are there in the scene.

Expect the Nokia Lumia Icon to go on sale this February 20th for $199.99 a pop with a two-year contract on Verizon.

Nokia Lumia Icon Spotted In Inventory Listing

Nokia Lumia Icon Spotted In Inventory ListingThe upcoming Nokia Lumia Icon device has had its fair share of leaks and rumors to date, which is not surprising considering how there seems to be a rising demand for this particular Verizon Wireless exclusive smartphone which will run on the Windows Phone 8 platform. The kind of hardware specifications in which you would find on the Nokia Lumia Icon would not be too far away from the likes of existing flagship models such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, where a generous 5” display would certainly be more than easy on your eyes. A leaked inventory listing for Verizon does point to the Nokia Lumia Icon arriving later this February 19 in white and black shades, while accessories for it (such as a case, which has already leaked out) look set to arrive a day after that.

    Nokia Teases Windows Phone Announcement

Does Nokia have a new device in the works that has yet to be announced? At the moment we can only think of two devices that the Finnish company has yet to reveal: the Nokia Normandy and the Nokia Lumia Icon which is a Windows Phone handset destined for Verizon. While it looks like Nokia could be making the announcement soon thanks to a new teaser trailer that Nokia recently uploaded onto YouTube. The clip itself is relatively short and is about 15 seconds long. All the video contains is a sound of a car engine revving and the words, “Have you heard what’s coming?” and “See and hear what you’ve been missing.”

Of course the video could be talking about the Nokia Normandy, which is allegedly Nokia’s take on Android, but at the end of the video, a Windows Phone logo pops up which would then eliminate that possibility. The Lumia Icon, for those unfamiliar, is essentially a smaller version of the Lumia 1520. The device will share most of the Lumia 1520’s hardware specs, but instead of a giant 6-inch display, the Lumia Icon will pack a smaller and more manageable 5-inch display. The handset has been leaked multiple times and has even gone on sale in China, so we’re guessing an official reveal should be coming soon.
