So you just bought a Nokia Lumia 900 and are wondering how on Earth you’ll get all your old phone’s data over to that new Windows Phone. Nokia and Mark/Space have you covered with a new, Lumia-tuned Welcome Home to Windows Phone app. The Mac- and Windows-based utility goes beyond just shuffling calendars, contacts and media; if you’re jumping ship from Android, a BlackBerry or an iPhone, it will scan apps linked to the outgoing hardware and offer QR codes to download either direct or close-enough equivalents for the Windows Phone world. Fresh Lumia owners might appreciate the price more than anything — unlike the Android porting tool, the Lumia version is a free treat just for joining the Nokia flock. It’s available today, but we have a feeling that most of the demand will come after September 5th.

Just when you think that the era of decent smartphone cameras has killed the Blurrycam, you get a beauty like this. Here’s an image purporting to be of a new Nokia Windows Phone 8 handset that, if real, we’ll see on September 5th. Of course, it could just as easily be a block of golden marzipan with some detailing, but at least it gives us hope that the company’s sticking with its trademark polycarbonate in various shades of primary colors.

Today Nokia announced that it has teamed up with JBL to introduce a new line of speakers meant to be paired with the Lumia. The full name of this new line is called “JBL PlayUp Portable Wireless Speaker for Nokia,” and they appear to be real attention-getters. In a post on Conversations with Nokia, the company’s Ian Delaney went through what we can expect from these PlayUp speakers, starting right off with the eye catching color and the similarities users are bound to see between these and the Play 360° speakers Nokia began offering last year.

The PlayUp speakers certainly are reminiscent of the Play 360° speaker, but we’re thinking that the color has more to do with that than anything else. As you can see in the image above, the speakers come in four colors – cyan, black, white and bright yellow. On the outside, we’ve got “specially created double-shot plastic” which makes for a more durable speaker, and though we don’t get many specifics about the speaker’s innards, Nokia says that this bad boy is capable of a maximum output of 89dB. In other words, this tiny thing (its dimensions are 118 x 118 x 128mm and it weighs 760g) can get pretty loud.

You’ve got a pretty big range when it comes to frequency response, which comes in at 85Hz – 22kHz (-6dB). Users can connect their phones through Bluetooth or, in the case of next-generation Lumias running Windows Phone 8, through NFC. Of course, Nokia isn’t about to leave anyone out in the cold, so if you’ve got a phone that doesn’t have Bluetooth or NFC, you can connect your device to the speaker through a 3.5mm jack. To top things off, we’re told that the battery lasts for 10 hours before needing a recharge.

There isn’t a solid release date for the PlayUp speakers yet, but Nokia says that they’ll begin shipping “before the end of the year.” While we don’t know the release date, we do know the price – picking up one of these will set you back €149, which is around $187. The PlayUp speaker is only the first product of Nokia’s partnership with JBL, and we’re told that more is on the way in the future. Stay tuned.

September 5th will be the day that Microsoft and Nokia hold an event in New York to bring on not two, but three new Windows Phone 8 Apollo devices. This set of three devices will be nicknamed “Arrow”, “Phi”, and “Atlas” per sources familiar with the matter speaking with The Verge. These devices will be part of Nokia’s Lumia lineup and each of their names are certainly subject to change.

Both devices are said to be heading to AT&T as their primary carrier, with the Arrow also heading to T-Mobile as well. The Arrow will be a mid-range device while the Phi will be a hero device, and a Atlas will popping up on Verizon as an equivalent to the Arrow. The Arrow and the Atlas are set to be near-identical devices to one another, not appearing at the moment to be all that far off from what we’ve seen in the Nokia Lumia 710 in size and stature.

The Phi smartphone will be coming with a curved display not unlike the Nokia Lumia 900 currently available at AT&T. This device will appear with a polycarbonate body in a variety of colors and will be quite similar in high-quality build to the Lumia range currently on the market. We’re expecting boosts in camera quality as well as display sharpness, but the overall hardware aesthetic will quite likely be pretty much the same.

This lineup will be the first large frontal assault by Microsoft via Nokia on the world with their Windows Phone 8 – nicknamed Apollo – software. This software will tie in with the release of Windows 8 for desktops and tablets as well as Windows RT for tablets, both of them coming quite soon to the market as well. Microsoft also released a brand update for the first time in 25 years this morning that you’ll certainly want to check out too.
