Leaks Reportedly Detail More Of HTC’s 2013 Android Line, Peg M7 For Release Soon After Unveiling

HTC is set to show off something at a special press event in NYC on February 19 (the day before Sony’s, it turns out), and it’s quite likely that the company will debut its rumored new flagship phone, the M7. And now new leaks from the generally dependable Evleaks suggest the company has a multi-device lineup planned to follow the M7 with retail availability in Spring.

The two phones detailed by Evleaks on UnwiredView suggest that HTC will follow-up the M7 with a device with slightly more moderate specs, akin to how the One S was designed to complement the One X last year. And there will also be a down-market device, called the G2, that will be 2013′s equivalent to the HTC Desire C.

The M4 will reportedly pack a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, with a 4.3-inch 720 p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage and a 13 megapixel rear camera. It’ll have a fairly limited 1500 mAh battery (but fewer pixels to push compared to the M7), and should run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The HTC G2 (which is unrelated to the previous HTC phone of the same name) will have a 1.0GHz ARM Cortex processor with 512MB of RAM, a 3.5-inch HVGA (480 x 320) display, with a 5 megapixel rear camera and no front shooter, a 1400 mAh battery and Android Ice Cream Sandwich as its operating system.

Once again, HTC looks set to deliver a trio of solid Android handsets designed for various consumer budgets, but I am a little concerned that this won’t be different enough from the status quo to really excite consumers and propel sales to higher than HTC’s rather disappointing performance overall in 2012. That said, it’s still very early to be judging these phones considering they haven’t even been made official yet, so maybe there’s more to HTC’s 2013 lineup than what’s apparent from the spec sheets.

HTC M7 March 8 Release Date A Possibility

HTC M7 March 8 Release Date A PossibilityThe Taiwanese smartphone company known as HTC do seem to have fallen into a rut where their smartphone releases are concerned, without really returning to their pinnacle as they hit a purple patch in the market a couple of years ago. Well, word has it that HTC intends to fight their way back to the top of the game with a new flagship model which very little is known about, namely the HTC M7.

The new HTC M7 flagship device does seem to have HTC executives fancy its chances against the next king of Android-powered smartphones (in all theoretical probability anyways), which would be the next iteration of the Samsung Galaxy S device. Having said that, it seems that HTC wants to launch a pre-emptive strike of sorts, by rolling out the HTC M7 this coming March 8, which would be slightly more than a couple of weeks after the rumored official February 19 announcement for the HTC M7. Let us hope that HTC will shed more details on the situation, other than just having the M7 arrive in black and silver/white options.

HTC Announces February 19 Launch Event Possibly For The HTC M7

htc feb 19 invite HTC Announces February 19 Launch Event Possibly For The HTC M7

We heard last week HTC was planning to launch its HTC M7 at a dedicated media event on February 19 and not during MWC, and wouldn’t you know it, an invite to an HTC event taking place in New York City made its way to our inbox. And you guys wouldn’t believe the date of the event. February. Nine. Teen.

Yes – it looks as though previous reports of HTC launching its HTC M7 outside of MWC may turn out to be true. We’ll just have to sit back and wait a few more weeks until we can attend HTC’s event. In the meantime, if the M7 is planned to be launched at the event, we expect it to feature a 4.7-inch 1080p HD display, quad-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

HTC will also be holding an additional event in London on the same day and time, factoring in the time difference, of course. So we’re sure whatever HTC has up its sleeve, it’ll be big enough to warrant simultaneous launch events in two different countries.

HTC to hold press events on February 19th, will show off 'what's next'

It looks like some of the hottest MWC action won’t take place in the same country — or even in the same week, for that matter. HTC has confirmed that it will be holding a press event in New York on the 19th of February, which is a few days before the majority of MWC companies hold their press conferences. At the time of this post, we believe this will be the company’s new flagship phone (currently rumored to be called the M7). We’ve also received official confirmation that an event will be held in London as well. Regardless of where they’re held, we’ll be there to get you the info on the latest and greatest from HTC!

HTC M7 Housing Caught On Video

Adding to the HTC M7 rumor mill is electronic parts seller, ETrade Supply, that recently posted the middle and rear frames of the elusive HTC M7. As you can see in the video above, the rear housing looks similar to HTC’s Droid DNA, except for the metallic buttons and the camera ring. ETrade Supply says that the new piece is 7cm wide and 13.7cm tall, and it has a flat glossy black finish on its back as well. There’s also a USB port at the lower portion of its edge and a port for earphones at the top. (more…)

HTC’s New Flagship M7 Hardware Reportedly Leaked, Complete With Sense 5.0 Screens

nexusae0_wm_IMG_20130121_105044_thumb

HTC had a disappointing year last year, despite early success with the One X and solid hardware releases in general. This year, it looks like it will be kicking things off in style with the launch of a new flagship device, called the HTC M7, a phone rumored for likely launch at MWC in Barcelona next month. The phone was supposedly depicted in a render leaked last week, but now, very different-looking hardware has turned up in photos obtained by Android Police.

At first glance, the M7 leak spotted by AP looks a lot more like what we’d expect from HTC. It has the company’s trademark look, with rounded corners and front glass that looks to taper slightly at the edges of the screen. The rear of the phone likewise looks like HTC signature style, with a matte black finish on what looks like a rubberized surface, with a centrally-positioned rear camera and speaker grill near the bottom of the device.

Rumored specs for this phone include a 4.7-inch display with 1080p resolution (making for a mind-boggling 468ppi pixel density) and a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor. In the new leaked images, it is depicted as running Sense 5.0, the next generation of HTC’s own OEM-specific custom Android skin. Sense looks to bring some considerable aesthetic changes to the mix for the UI, including a clock that embraces a digital look in favor of the flip-clock style one that HTC has been using as its own iconic take on Android for quite a while now.

Another noteworthy feature are the new info pane widgets, which look to provide information streams from various sources kind of like in an Android approximation of what Microsoft’s live tiles offer. Those aren’t populated yet in the screenshots, though, so we’ll have to wait and see what they actually look like in practice, should these leaks prove accurate.

HTC needs to come out of the gate swinging in 2013 to boost the brand and win back consumer confidence, but its recent Droid DNA and Butterfly phones have shown some dramatic steps in that direction. The M7, which should combine an industry leading display with a form factor that’s probably more battery and user-friendly than a giant-sized device, could be just what the doctor ordered.

HTC M7 Render Is Close To The Real Thing (Rumor)

htc m7 render1 HTC M7 Render Is Close To The Real Thing (Rumor) What you see above is actually a render of the upcoming HTC M7 that will be the flagship device for the beleaguered Taiwanese company who has fallen on hard times recently, although they are not too far down the rabbit hole to be rescued if they chart their path correctly in the weeks and months ahead. The date spotted on HTC Sense is January 15, which could be the date that the render was created, and the location, Barcelona, could very well be a prophetic “message” that makes the HTC M7 ripe for a Mobile World Congress unveiling.

Well, some folks would say that a render is nothing until the real deal is released, but according to Bartosz of Czujnym Okiem, what you see above is not an official render from HTC, but from folks who claim to have had access to a photo of the HTC M7. While the front looks as though it adds up, the back does not really seem to be much to believe in, with Windows Phone 8X being used as a starting point. If you ask me, the HTC M7 render does seem to share some design cues as that of the Sony Xperia range of smartphones, what do you think?

HTC M7 purportedly spied brandishing Sense 5.0

HTC M7 purportedly spied brandishing Sense 50

It’s that special time again — that time when Mobile World Congress looms, and HTC fans wonder what design philosophy they’ll live with for the next year. We might have just been given a peek at their future. Android Police claims to have a photo and screenshots for the M7, a prototype HTC smartphone that previously only existed in a slightly sketchy 3D render. The design appears to take a handful of cues from the Droid DNA, although there’s touches front and back (such as different front camera and rear flash positions) that suggest it’s not a carbon copy. What may matter most is the software: the M7 appears to be running Sense 5.0, which could bring a stripped-back look while adding new widgets for at-a-glance news and tips.

Before we declare this a preview of what we’ll see in Barcelona, though, we’d do well to point out some of the more glaring uncertainties beyond just the lack of internal hardware details. The capacitive buttons sit unusually high on the front, for one; and they are in an unusual order — the home button isn’t in the middle. There’s also none of the usual regulatory markings on the back — even if authentic, this may be a prototype that doesn’t reflect the final result. Whether it’s the real thing or just wishful thinking, we may find out in a little over a month’s time.

Update: It is worth pointing out that the time, weather and the length of the black bar over the location name in the widget suggest this device was spied in Taipei, the home of HTC. Unless, of course, this was a carefully calculated hoax.
