ClamCase Pro Can Make Your iPad Look Like A Macbook Air

If you’ve experienced Microsoft’s Surface, you know there isn’t a Bluetooth keyboard on any tablet device that competes with the slimness and comfort of its keyboard. But we have to admit Bluetooth keyboard developers are trying their best to offer a unique experience with their devices that not only add the ability to type with a physical keyboard on your tablet, but also make it look like another product sometimes. ClamCase is one of those companies who have been offering more than just a Bluetooth keyboard, with a number of its keyboards looking like other Mac products like a Macbook and they’re announcing a new bluetooth keyboard that again looks like another Mac product.

ClamCase’s ClamCase Pro is designed to look exactly like the MacBook Air when you slip your iPad into its dock. It’ll work with the iPad 2 and above and features a spaced-out keyboard, an aluminum and polycarbonate enclosure and will automatically wake or put your iPad to sleep when you lift it open or close. The ClamCase Pro can be charged via microUSB and will keep you typing for 120 consecutive hours before needing a recharge.

The ClamCase Pro is available now for $170, but if you really want to turn heads with your bluetooth keyboard, having one that makes your iPad look like a Macbook Air will certainly do the trick.

How would you change the mid-2012 MacBook Air?

How would you change the mic2012 MacBook Air

Remember when people decried the MacBook Air as a dumb idea when it first launched? Well, given the amount of Ultrabooks that are now floating around the world, we bet they’ve not shared that opinion publicly too often. The most recent vintage of the unit gained USB 3.0 ports, Ivy Bridge chips and, well, not the one thing that would have made the unit unbeatable — a retina-class display. No, instead that feature was reserved for a different line, letting rivals like the Zenbook Prime beat it in the resolution stakes. But aside from that notable (and for Apple, lucrative) omission, how have you found these machines? Tell us what you’ve loved, hated and, most importantly, what would you change?

MacBook Air And MacBook Pro Rumored For Refresh In June 2013

screen shot 2012 12 28 at 1 03 19 am 640x249 MacBook Air And MacBook Pro Rumored For Refresh In June 2013If you’re thinking about picking up a new MacBook Air or MacBook Pro laptop for yourself, you might be interested to learn that according to a report by Digitimes, they claim that Apple will be refreshing both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro in June 2013. Given that June is usually the time of the year that Apple holds its Worldwide Developers Conference, we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple took that opportunity to unveil any possible MacBook refreshes.

These refreshes are said to be pretty much standard fare, so don’t expect to see any major redesigns. Instead Digitimes is claiming that as far as the MacBook Air is concerned, the refreshed models are expected to include new processors, although they did not state as to what sort of specifications we could be looking at. They also suggested that MacBook Air prices could see a drop ahead of the refresh although we have to admit this is not Apple’s typical strategy. The report also claims that Apple has already issued requests to their supply chain partners to get ready to start building these refresh laptops.

Microsoft’s Sinofsky says Windows 8 PCs can undercut Apple’s ‘recreational’ iPad mini

Microsoft's Sinofsky says Windows 8 PCs can undercut Apple's 'recreational' iPad mini, can't quite explain Surface

It just wouldn’t be a major Apple launch if there wasn’t a Microsoft executive calling out his old rival, would it? In a chat with AllThingsD, Windows division lead Steven Sinofsky has expressed doubts that Apple’s iPad mini is really a cost-effective pick against the just-launched Windows 8. It’s a $329 “recreational tablet” when there are work-ready Windows 8 laptops that cost $279, he says. He added that there are at least a few touchscreen Ultrabooks that could undercut the non-touch MacBook Air on price, and he ascribed the difference as much to “engineering” as the cost-cutting measures you’d expect.

Sinofsky was naturally just as keen to champion the advantages for work that Windows RT tablets like the Surface have when competing more directly with iPads, alluding to that Office bundle which hopefully keeps us more productive than a copy of Documents To Go. The company President would certainly disagree with Apple chief Tim Cook’s view that Surface is a confused product, calling it a “PC for everyone” that just doesn’t have to be used all the time. He makes valid points on the sheer value for money that you can get from both Windows PCs and tablets, although it would only be fair to mention that he didn’t touch on the currently low Windows RT app selection, or if the OS was exactly what the market wanted — we’d do well to remember that Microsoft alumni have a spotty track record when it comes to predicting Apple’s destiny.

New MacBook line up priced

We’re still waiting on today’s huge announcement coming from Apple’s press event, but before we get there, we’ve got some pretty excellent news to report. Yes, there will be a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, along with a bunch of new models in the MacBook line in general. Apple’s Phil Schiller delivered prices on this new line up during the event today, and it seems like there should be something for all budgets (or at least most of them).

We’ll start with the all new MacBook Airs. 11-inchers come in at a pretty decent price, setting you back only $999, while the new 13-inch MacBook Airs will run $1,199. Though Apple revealed new MacBook Pros with Retina Display, the old Pros are sticking around, and as such have new prices. 13-inch MacBook Pros will cost $1,199, while the 15-inch models will come in at $1,799.

Finally, we come to the Retina MacBook Pros, specifically the the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Taking one of those home will cost you $1,699, while if you want the 15-inch model, you’ll have to plop down $2,199. Not too bad, but we have a feeling that some will find those prices a little difficult to swallow. Still, $1,699 was considered by many to be the sweet spot for 13-inch MacBook Pros with Retina Display, and it seems that Apple has hit it. Stay tuned for more information straight from Apple’s event, and be sure to check out our Apple hub to get all of the news from today!

Apple, other thin laptop makers pass latest round of EPEAT tests after summer mini-drama

MacBook Air 13-inch front view with grass wallpaper

Apple gave eco-friendly computer fans a brief jolt this July after it backed out of EPEAT certification, only to restore most devices just days later. While we can’t say we’re completely shocked at the follow-up, EPEAT has confirmed that at least one “ultra-thin” laptop from Apple has just cleared the verification process. The as yet unnamed system is more likely to be a Mac that had already earned the recycling-friendly rating in the past, such as the MacBook Air, rather than a sudden turnaround for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display. The look wasn’t exclusively devoted to the Mac side, though — EPEAT cleared Apple’s computer as part of a wider test that also greenlit extra-thin portables from Lenovo, Samsung and Toshiba. We’ve reached out to get a more definitive list, but the approvals should ease the minds of those worried that ever-slimmer laptops are forcing us to give up our green efforts.
