The Mac turns 30 today
There comes a time where you pass the threshold of simply being a gamer to one of the gaming elite. It takes a lot of practice, but once you’re there, you can’t really go back. You’re not only aware of issues within each game to a more severe degree, but you also understand how important your tools are when facing a foe of equal level.
When it comes to mobile games, the competition is not nearly as stiff as PC, but there are those who want to have the right tools at hand. If you played more on console, but find yourself addicted to mobile games, then the Steelseries Stratus seems like it might be worth having in your gaming utility belt. This is very sensitive to pressure, has extended battery life, and uses LED notifications to let you know how you’re doing in-game.
Appearance-wise it looks like an Xbox and Playstation controller melted together. It’s said to work with iOS 7 or later, the iPhone 5, 5c, iPad Mini, iPad Air, as well as the 5th gen of the iPod Touch. It’s only available for preorder at the moment at around $100, but will be shipping out in the next month or so. Seeing that there aren’t as wide of a variety of games available on Mac as there are on PC, this doesn’t seem like a great idea unless you’re just really an Apple fan.
Available for preorder on Steelseries, found via Technabob

Today was a banner day for new Apple goodness. We got a thinner, lighter, iPad—the iPad Air—as well as a new retina display iPad mini, new Haswell chip-packed MacBook Pros, and a deeper look at the new Mac Pros. Do you feel like you need a cheat sheet to keep track? We’ve got just the thing:
I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but the steady approach of the end of October has me a little uneasy. For the past 2 years the Northwest has been hit, and hit hard, by snowstorms and hurricanes. The memories of sitting around for weeks without power still makes most folks a little uncomfortable. This year we’re ready (which of course means it’s not going to happen) but we’re ready nonetheless.
Check out Hyperjuice 2, an amazing little external battery pack for your Macbook, iPad, iPhone or Smartphone. The Hyperjuice 2 isn’t just your everyday back up battery, this attractive aluminum box is quite possibly one of the world’s most advanced battery packs, Equipped with 2 high power 10W (5V, 2.1A max) USB ports that can charge any 2 USB devices (even 2 iPads) simultaneously!
Hyperjuice 2 has an 85W output that is actually capable of handling a Macbook Pro with Retina display for up to 18 hours, or run your brand new iPad for around 34 hours (and an older one for up to 50) or fully recharge your phone about 19 times. The cool low profile, rectangular design allows the casing, lithium ion battery cells or the logic board to be replaced separately, making the unit maintainable and environmentally friendly. OLED displays on the face of the unit provide detailed battery information like status, power percentage, temperature and even the time it will take to fully charge or discharge.
So, if you don’t like being off the grid, for any reason, the Hyperjuice 2 might be for you. It’s important to note that Apple has required that for the battery to work with your MacBook, you will also need the Do-it-Yourself Magic Box kit which is sold separately. The cost of this much power doesn’t come cheap however, with a price tag around 300 bucks at amazon.com, but next time you’re sitting in the dark trying to read by candlelight, you’ll wish you had it.

In recent years, many pros have started feeling like Apple’s jilted girlfriend. Through no fault of their own, the love just seemed to fade.
Whenever you go out to your favorite coffee haunt, or are simply chilling out at a bistro or bar that has free Wi-Fi connectivity, surely there are moments when you bring your work along with you. With the MacBook Air from Apple being one of the more popular notebooks to tote around simply because of its super slim design as well as lightweight form factor, it is not a good idea to leave your MacBook Air lying on the table where you are seated (especially if you are alone) while you head off to the washroom to relieve yourself. After all, you can never quite tell just when someone has cast a jealous eye on your MacBook Air and have been looking for an opportunity to relieve you of it when you are not around. Enter the MacBook Air Lock Bracket Kit from Maclocks.
The MacBook Air Lock Bracket Kit works as it says – it is a cutting-edge discreet bracket lock that offers MacBook Air users with an additional and unique method to secure your extremely slim MacBook Air. This is made possible thanks to an inconspicuous super-slim ultra-light solution which will not make your MacBook Air’s sleek design look out of place.
Made out of high-grade aerospace aluminum bracket, it has been specially designed with the patented “Wedge” security slot. The Wedge Security Cable (also touted to come along with the slimmest locking head in the world, and you are definitely free to dispute that claim) will feature a 360-degree rotational locking head which paves the way for a full range of motion, all the while holding the secured device firmly and in place. The super slim bracket measures a mere 1mm thin, and it tips the scales at under 0.1lb, now how about that? You can fasten it to the bottom of the MacBook Air easily using its own original four screw holes. The new MBA Lock Bracket Kit will arrive in 11″ and 13″ sizes, where placing a pre-order for either will cost you $69.95.

Earlier this morning, there are two different events that have captured the attention of millions of people around the globe – at least from the tech perspective. First, there is E3 in Los Angeles that can be said to be the mecca of all video game news and releases on an annual basis, and for fans of the bitten fruit, you would have overcome your gaming cravings to tune in to what Tim Cook has to say at WWDC 2013 in San Francisco. Well, it seems that your patience to see what new hardware has Apple cooked up this time around has paid off, with Cupertino announcing that there is a new MacBook Air model in the market to keep up with the times.
Needless to say, the MacBook Air has been long overdue for a revision, and Phil Schiller, Apple’s head of marketing, took up the responsibility to unveil a couple of newer models. These will not be immediately available, although you will be able to place an order for them this coming Monday, with prices starting at the usual $999 point. Needless to say, you won’t find too many folks picking up the soon-to-be-obsolete MacBook Air between today and next Monday, as this is the chance to exercise patience and experience the proverb, “good things come to those who wait.”
Just what kind of hardware improvements will the new generation MacBook Air models bring? We are looking at an all day battery life, fourth generation Intel Core processors with faster graphics, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and flash storage which has been touted to be up to 45% faster compared to its previous generation. The 13″ MacBook Air will start from a new lower price of $1,099, which would certainly make it more accessible to the masses as Apple does their bit to fend off the growing Ultrabook market that runs on Windows 8.
We are looking at 9 and 12 hours of battery life for the 11″ and 13″ MacBook Air models, respectively, with support for next generation 802.11ac Wi-Fi thrown in alongside the new Intel HD Graphics 5000 chipset which allows the MacBook Air to enjoy up to 40% faster performance for gaming and graphics intensive apps. Other hardware specifications include dual microphones, a FaceTime HD camera, a high-speed Thunderbolt port and a couple of USB 3.0 ports, with dual display support and video mirroring thrown in for good measure.

Plair – Beaming to a TV near You
Posted in: Today's ChiliI have quite a few cameras. That being said I usually don’t have one with me when those magical moments happens, but since the advent of the Smartphone (and their enhanced picture capabilities) I very rarely miss a shot anymore. Of course now, all the pics and videos are on my phone which leads to that annoying “hand around the phone before the pic disappears” ritual that takes place at 1000′s of tables every day.
Well check out Plair… a new device designed to end those awkward hot potato type shenanigans with a nifty paddle shaped dongle that can instantly offer you content streaming from your computer or mobile device straight to your TV screen. No box, no wires and no need for a Smart TV! To connect Plair to your TV you just need to be sure it has an HDMI port, then once you plug it in and connect it to your wireless network you can beam your videos and pics right to the big screen, even while youre surfing the net.
Sure, if you’re an Apple family you already had AirPlay, but Plair works with PC, Mac and iOS or Android devices and it seems pretty plug and play, and the way it streams directly it doesn’t seem to harbor a bunch of buffering issues and it won’t tie up your device for the duration of the stream which frees you up to chat with friends while watching Downton Abbey or the video of your daughters 3rd grade dance recital.
So if you don’t grab a lot of content via iTunes, and if you’re willing to wait and see if Hulu or Netflix eventually climb on board then you really should check out Plair, or order one now, on a first come first serve basis from plair.com for only 99 bucks!

Apple has finally announced its financial results for Q2, 2013. There has been a lot of speculation lately on Apple’s results, on how much profit will it post and how many units it has been able to move. The company generated a revenue of $43.6 billion last quarter, posting a new profit of $9.5 billion. In Q2, 2012 Apple posted $11.6 billion on $29.6 billion revenue. These results are similar to the expectations Apple announced in Q1, 2013.
Apple sold 37.04 million iPhones this past quarter as opposed to 35.1 million units same time last year. This accounts for a 7% growth. Macs and iPods declined in sales, only 3.95 million and 5.06 million units sold respectively. iPad sales rose a staggering 65% this past quarter, 19.5 million units were sold as opposed to 11.8 million last year. At 5PM ET, CFO Peter Oppenheimer and CEO Tim Cook will be discussing these quarterly results with analysts. It will be interesting to hear their responses on tough questions related to Apple’s decreasing share prices and its product roadmap for the current quarter. Rumor has it that new iPhones, new iPads and new Macs are set to be announced in Q3, 2013.

There’s a lot of good and bad that comes with technology, most of it is good, and I love it. But while our smartphones and computers streamline our lives they can certainly complicate them as well.We rely on our SmartPhones and computers for everything, all of our most important information, and then I’m also concerned about our kids, their connection with the world around them may just be too intimate. I love my electronics, don’t get me wrong, but I’d like a tool that keeps everything and everybody safe.
Check out ER-220 SmartPhone Recovery Pro not only does it back up the data you have, but gets you back the things you deleted as well. All of us know the horror of watching the little trash can open and close and then realizing you just made a horrible mistake. ER-220 can be used to recover deleted data from your iPhone quickly and easily, and to display all your information on an intuitive interface residing on your Mac. Being able to see deleted data… that’s a very good thing.
The software lets you see almost all the existing data on your phone, but best of all, it allows you to recover your deleted stuff including messages, call history, contacts, notes and calendar entries, and the all important iTunes files. Recovery Pro lets you have access to all your phones info, even if you have your phone no more. Recovery Pro also lets you take all your precious information and easily export it to your Mac as a backup file.
The software runs from the Flashdrive, so you won’t need to install a conspicuous file anywhere, and it seems to me that it can not only save you from the trauma of losing your phone or information but more importantly, for those of us that need it, a pretty sneaky way to check up on your kids or spouse.. yeah… I went there. To find out more, or to check out the Windows version, visit enigma-recovery.com Think of it, piece of mind, for under 80 bucks.
