Mailbox 2.0 For iOS Released

Mailbox 2.0 For iOS ReleasedIt was about a year ago that the Mailbox app was launched. The app initially debuted on iOS and one of its unique features and selling point was its clean and minimal user interface that made use of gestures, such as swiping, to manage one’s email. The app was later launched on Android as a beta which included several changes not in the iOS version, such as auto-swipe.

Well the good news for iOS users is that Mailbox 2.0 is finally here for iOS and with the update, it will introduce the auto-swipe feature which should make managing your inbox a lot easier than before. For those unfamiliar with the feature, the app will basically learn from your habits and will know which emails you want to archive and will automatically be able to archive it for you, thus saving you precious time from having to do it yourself.

It should be noted that because Mailbox is now owned by Dropbox, the app will now prompt you to sign in with your Dropbox account, although this is entirely optional if you don’t see the need to link up your Dropbox and Mailbox accounts together, although perhaps if you want to backup your emails then it might be worth looking into.

The app itself is free and promotes an empty inbox. This is done by either archiving your emails or setting them to “snooze” which will remind you to attend to it later. If you’d like to check it out, hit up the iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store for the download.

Mailbox For Android And Mac (Beta) Launched

Mailbox For Android And Mac (Beta) LaunchedIf you’re an iOS user converting to Android, there are probably some iOS-exclusive apps that you might miss, one of them being Mailbox. Well the good news is that if you were wondering when the app would arrive for Android, wonder no more because Mailbox has since launched for Android is available for download for free via Google Play.

The app will function just like its iOS counterpart and for those unfamiliar with the app, Mailbox is essentially another email client that sports a very clean and simple interface. It makes use of gestures, like swiping, to either delete a message, archive it, or set it to snooze to remind you to check up on it later.

The app has also received a new feature called auto-swipe which is basically where the app will learn your preferences and actions and will be able to snooze or archive messages automatically to help you become more efficient at managing your email. Personally I’d rather manage my emails myself but for those who love automation, perhaps this is a feature that might be of interest to you.

This feature will take advantage of Dropbox’s cloud services to help sync your preferences across devices, so if you use Mailbox on other devices like tablets or a second smartphone, you won’t have to teach it all over again.

The developers have also announced that Mailbox will finally be arriving for the Mac albeit in beta form and if you’re interested in participating in the beta, hit up Mailbox’s website for the details.

Solar Illuminated Address Mailbox offers an edge at night

solar-illuminated-mailboxI am not quite sure about you, but when it comes to hunting down a particular house on a street at night, it always helps if the streetlamps there actually work. Not only that, it would also go a long way for guests who are trying to locate your house for the first time to see the numbers on your house properly. The mailbox should feature your house number, but over the years, the numbers might have faded or are covered by extra growth from the creepers and other trees. Why not make life easier for everyone, all the while adding some aesthetic value to your home, with the $119.95 Solar Illuminated Address Mailbox?

The Solar Illuminated Address Mailbox happens to be a solar powered device that features address and numbers which remain clearly visible, regardless of whether it is day or night. This is made possible thanks to a solar panel that has been built into the top of the mailbox, where it will harness the power of the sun in order to send juice to an LED that illuminates the address numbers on both sides of the mailbox. There is also a light sensor that ensures the LED will be able to turn on automatically at dusk and off at dawn, with the bright illumination working so well, guests or deliverymen can see it from up to to 50′ away. A single day of charging on the solar panel will allow the 3″-tall numbers to remain illuminated for up to 40 hours. Simply fantastic, no?

Mailbox for iOS Has a Huge Security Flaw (Updated)

Mailbox for iOS Has a Huge Security Flaw (Updated)

Mailbox, the tidy iOS email app recently purchased by Dropbox, has a pretty wide-open hole that could allow bad actors to hijack your device. And unlike phishing attempts that should probably set off your sketchiness detector, this flaw involves emails that look completely innocuous.

iOS 7 app update roundup: it’s a flat, flat, flat world

Even if you don’t feel like coughing up the cash for either the iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s, those eligible for an update (that’s if you own an iPhone 4 or up, or an iPad 2 onward) can at least console themselves with iOS 7, which debuts today. Gone is the skeuomorphic design of the Forstall era, and in its place is a flatter interface that promises an entirely new experience for iOS devotees. As such, developers everywhere have been scrambling to get their apps redesigned to match the new mobile OS out of Cupertino. While we can’t possibly cover every update, we’ve compiled a quick list after the break of the more substantial app revamps that have come our way.

Giant .44 Magnum Mailbox: Let’s Hope it’s Not Loaded

I’m not sure if the USPS approves of this, but this awesomely unusual mailbox by Roger Buchko is currently making the rounds on the Internet. Understandably so, since instead of the usual plain box, this one is in the shape of a giant.Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum handgun.

It takes up considerable space on Roger’s lawn in rural New Jersey. It’s mighty heavy, too. The gun part weighs about 350 pounds, while its base is much heavier – weighing in at a whopping 1,200 pounds.

Roger supports gun rights but he said that he didn’t build the huge letterbox to send some sort of message. Being a semi-retired cabinet maker, he just wanted to make one after seeing others post similar designs on the web.

Of his unusual mailbox, Roger says: “I  put it out there to try to get some work and because I needed a new mailbox. At least 500 people have taken pictures of it already. They love it. I haven’t had one hater yet, except one night somebody threw eggs on it. I’m lucky. I expected everybody was going to hate me but turns out everybody loves me.”

Ping for iOS: A Mobile Email Experience That’s More Like Texting

Ping for iOS: A Mobile Email Experience That's More Like Texting

Every other startup out there is trying to become the new big thing in email, but what we get more often than not is a bunch of half-baked tweaks that sound nice on paper but don’t really do all that much to change the experience. Ping, however, actually is probably unlike any other email client you’ve used before.

Mailbox intros expanded search, signature and Chrome browser option

It might not be the desktop app you’ve been waiting for, but this newest Mailbox is still pretty notable for its new mobile features. Perhaps the most important addition is the ability to search for emails not saved locally on your iPhone or iPad. It’s far from perfect — we’re unable to dig for old conversations dating more than a few months back — but it’s better than not having it at all. Once you’ve updated the app, you’ll also notice new sections in the Settings page, including a signature box for each linked account and the ability to change the default browser from Safari to Chrome. There’s also an option to link your account to Dropbox, which acquired Mailbox in March, in exchange for 1GB of free space on the cloud service. Unfortunately, there’s no news on the Android app or the reported integration with other email services — but we’ll keep a weather eye on the horizon.
