Is This the Perfect-Sized Mini Tripod We’ve Been Waiting For?

The problem with most compact tripods is that while highly portable, they’re really only useful for supporting lighter cameras like point-and-shoots or smartphones. But most people who’d actually need and use a tripod are probably shooting with heavier DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. So Manfrotto created the Pixi: a decent compromise between a full-sized tripod and a compact set of sticks that doesn’t sacrifice usefulness for size.

Manfrotto ML120 Hotshoe LED Panel + KLYP Case For iPhone

If there is one particular smartphone that has more of its fair share of accessories compared to the rest, I would like to think that the iPhone is the surefire winner among the rest of the Android-powered and Windows Phone 8 candidates. Having said that, here is yet another accessory for your precious iPhone that would help you snap better photos during your impromptu photoshoot moments, never mind the fact that a DSLR would yield far better results, but you can’t be lugging a DSLR everywhere with you now, right?

The $69.99 Manfrotto ML120 Hotshoe LED Panel + KLYP Case For iPhone pretty much says it all, where it will literally light up your life with a tiny LED panel that casts soft, even light. The light can be swiveled around to face forward or backward, where all twelve LEDs on it are guaranteed to send your iPhone’s flash scurrying away, as it buries its face in a flood of tears for letting you down all this while under low light conditions. It has been specially designed for the iPhone 4/4S, and is powered by a single AAA battery.

The Manfrotto Klyp gives your iPhone 5 more camera-like functionality

Some of the higher-end smartphones like the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X feature pretty amazing cameras which should have no problems replacing your typical point-and-shoots, but due to the cameras being housed in a smartphone’s body and with emphasis being placed on thinness, there are some features lacking that could turn our phones into a proper, dedicated camera unit. The folks at Manfrotto are hoping to change that and have announced the Klyp which is basically a casing for the iPhone 4/4S that will allow it to be transformed into a more functional camera.

The Klyp will allow the iPhone 4/4S to be used on tripods and will support the addition of LED lightings which will help illuminate subjects, in the event that the built-in flash unit of the iPhone is inadequate. The case will also allow the clip-on of additional accessories that you might use with a professional camera, possibly attaching microphones to the setup for those looking to turn their phones into video recording devices. The Klyp will be available in five different kits, ranging from the bare essentials (just the case and adapter clips) to the full get up which includes an LED light and a pocket tripod. It is expected to be available come 1st of October and will be priced starting at £24.95.

There’s usually a dearth of new iPhone accessories leading up to an Apple event, because most companies don’t want to release a product incompatible with the latest model. Not Manfrotto. Its new KLYP case improves your iPhone’s shots with a much needed mini tripod and large multi-LED flash. But iPhone 5 owners can just move along, because the KLYP only works with the 4 and 4S. Manfrotto Hotshoe Dimmable LED Panel
