The expansion pack brings an all new game mode called Master at Arms. This particular mode is a free-for-all game mode exclusive to Judgment with the goal of getting a kill with each of the 20 different available weapons. The caveat is that players can’t resort to melee or grenade tactics. As a player scores a kill with each of the weapons, new weapons automatically become available.

The three new multiplayer maps available in the game include Terminal, Blood Drive, and Boneyard. The maps provide a mix of close quarters combat and vertical combat. The map pack also brings to new achievements worth a total of 250 Gamerscore.

UK finally gets access to Google’s Map Maker editing tool

UK finally gets access to Google's crowdsourced mapping tool, Map Maker

Those red pins look almost like little hearts, revealing which countries have been showered with the affection of Google’s crowdsourced map improvement tool and those — like the UK — that have so far been left out. We can now safely ignore the chart, however, as the UK has just received its dose of Map Maker love, taking its rightful place among nations like the US, France, India and even North Korea. Instead of just reporting problems, which has long been possible, Brits can use the browser-based service to contribute additional local knowledge about everything from bus stations to cycle routes, as well as natural features like parks and even bits of shrubbery. (Hopefully, only really amazing bits of shrubbery.) You can watch folks adding these sorts of things, almost in real-time, at the Google link below — and it’s weirdly addictive.

MagicPlan Maps Out Your Home From Your Smartphone

MagicPlan Maps Out Your Home From Your Smartphone

Being able to map out pretty much the entire world is something Google has set out to do with its Google Maps service. One place they’re probably not allowed to map is your home, although we’re sure many of you would probably welcome Google to your home, as long as they gave you enough time to clean up beforehand.

If you’ve ever wanted to map out your own personal living space but didn’t know exactly how to do it, MagicPlan may be what you’re looking for. The way MagicPlan works is through a combination of sensor fusion, augmented reality and reality capturing to let your mobile device draw a floor plan of your home.

The entire process is said to work quickly as CEO of Sensopia Pierrer Gaubil says the technology took three years of work to be created. “It takes away the burden of measuring and drawing and needing to move furniture, It is a huge time saver, and there are so many potential applications and partnerships.”

MagicPlan is available to download on your iOS device for $3.

Blind Maps: Braille Navigation System Concept

A couple of years ago we learned about Plan.B, a concept for a map for blind people. The idea behind that system was sound, but I thought the execution left much to be desired. I like this other concept called Blind Maps much more. It’s supposed to be a Bluetooth add-on for the iPhone that provides Braille-like turn-by-turn navigation.

blind maps braille navigation system concept

Blind Maps was conceptualized by Andrew Spitz, Ruben van der Vleuten and Markus Schmeiduch last year to fulfill a 36-hour project for a course that they took at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. Whereas Plan.B displays a mini-map of the user’s immediate surroundings, Blind Maps keeps things simple. To start off, the user speaks into his iPhone and asks for directions to a destination. Blind Maps would then tap into the data from a navigation app on the iPhone – e.g. Google Maps – to provide turn-by-turn navigation using dots that protrude from the device itself.

It looks a bit like the Snake game from the old Nokia phones, except this one controls you. I also like its crowdsourced aspect. It would not just help blind people be more independent but also enable blind people to help others with the same disability to be independent.

This Map of the United States of America Shows Where the Most Cragslist Missed Connections Happen in Each State

The map of the United States doesn’t just show state lines. Sometimes it reveals Google autocomplete stereotypes. Other times it proves that we’re not that divided. This map might be the best though. It shows each state’s most popular locations for Craigslist Missed Connections. Meaning these are each state’s best spot to see somebody you think is pretty cute. It’s wonderful. More »

TeleGeography’s 2013 Submarine Cable Map Plots 244 Cable Systems Of The World

TeleGeographys 2013 Submarine Cable Map Plots 244 Cable Systems Of The WorldTeleGeography, a telecommunications research and consulting firm that specializes in international networks, service providers, and undersea cables, has released an updated version of its Submarine Cable Map. TeleGeography’s 2013 Submarine Cable Map features a new design that is inspired by star charts and antique maps. I got to admit that it looks pretty cool. The new map also historically hints a connection between submarine cables and cartography, plotting around 244 – 232 in-service and 12 planned – active cables including ones expected to go live next year. One Does Not Simply Dress Up as Mordor

…and Gondor, Eriador, Rohan, Arnor, Rhovanion and Rhun and whatever uncharted land is on Middle Earth. But Flickr user Kristy pulled it off with style at Dragon*Con:

middle earth map lord of the rings dress by cressiebeth from matt kristy

The dress was made by Flickr user Cressiebeth, who said “I worked with a graphic designer who created the “repeat” map pattern and Spoonflower.com printed the map on cotton sateen fabric. I used a vintage Simplicity pattern #3422 as a base for the dress and altered it with scalloping. The clutch was my own design and the “ring” was recycled from an old circle belt buckle.”

I think it’s the fact that it uses only a few colors – and muted ones at that – that prevents the whole thing from devolving into a walking globe costume.
