Mario Kart 7 – Drift IR

Nintendo certainly had a good thing going with their Mario Kart series that kicked off on the SNES, and the karting genre never really looked back after that. In fact, Super Mario Kart opened up the world to interesting possibilities as Mode 7 on the SNES offered gamers a totally different way of looking at games. Many a time, I am quite sure that you have argued with your friend over whether who is correct in a certain situation, and since the both of your are gentlemen, there is only one way to resolve this – through a round of Mario Kart! However, there are times when you do not have access to an emulator or a working SNES, which is where this Mario Kart 7 – Drift IR comes in handy, sporting multi-direction steering with drifting action. Depending on the character you choose (Mario, Luigi, or Donkey Kong), it retails from $29.99 to $84.99.

At least you need not spend your time trying to invent high-octane mini cars and blue spiked shells with wings and homing capabilities from scratch, as the Nintendo R/C Mario Kart! Control is all you need. Sporting variable channels for racing with friends, you can be sure that life will never be the same again, although you would need some talent to ensure that whatever course you have set up will be fair and challenging at the same time.

Mario Kart 7 MicroDrive

Want to live life a little dangerously? You are able to do so by taking your chances whenever you are behind the wheel, but why do so in real life when you become a danger not only to yourself, but to people around you? You might as well get that done in a far more safer environment – that is, using a remote controlled toy, coupled with your imagination, of course. The $44.99 Mario Kart 7 MicroDrive would fit the bill perfectly, as you see tiny Mario gripping the wheel with both hands, ready to spring into action at any time!

The Mario Kart 7 MicroDrive is one cute little toy, where this particular racer might not have a trio of swirling red tortoise shells circling it at all times, but it is capable of performing a wheelie, something that Mario is unable to do in all Mario Kart series to date. Not only that, he intends to wow the skirts off the ladies by performing 360 degree spins, too! This R/C vehicle is capable of multiple speeds to boot, and will be powered by half a dozen of AAA batteries in total. Get two of these and you have a Mario vs Mario match.

Mario Kart Racing Erasers Are Something Else

Mario Kart Racing Erasers Are Something ElseDo you follow the manga and/or anime Initial D? Sure, the characters in there have some pretty extraordinary driving skills, but this does not mean they are able to win in just about any vehicle, as the tools of the trade are also equally important as knowledge itself. Most professional road racers would tell you that a great set of tires is crucial in providing that much needed boost to a vehicle’s performance, and toy manufacturer Takara Tomy must have taken that insight and churned out an eraser car that has been styled after a Mario Kart, of course.

Japan is a strange country at times, and as we have witnessed recently, real life Mario Kart drivers made their way to Japan’s freeway, so it would not be too out of place to see these “Bato-Keshi!! (Racing Erasers) Mario Kart 7″ sets arriving in stores throughout the Land of the Rising Son later this month. There will be three sets up for grabs, where each will feature Mario and either his super brother Luigi, long time love interest Princess Peach, and Toad.

Real Life Mario Kart Drivers Spotted On Japan Freeway

Real Life Mario Kart Drivers Spotted On Japan Freeway

Over the years, we’ve seen people take their love for Mario Kart to the streets with even students at MIT joining in on the Mario Kart fun. But leave it to Japan to take something like a real-life Mario Kart and completely take it to the next level.

The two Mario Kart fans were spotted on the mean streets somewhere in Japan by a friend of Redditor justicefreedomlogic. Both “Mario” and “Luigi” were seen zipping down a freeway in Mario Kart-inspired vehicles that resembled the very karts both Mario and Luigi drive in their respective game series. Not only were their karts decked out in a Mario and Luigi paint scheme, but both drivers even dressed up as the iconic characters during their drive. (more…)

Mario Kart 64 Recreated In Minecraft

We’ve seen Minecraft players create some pretty impressive structures and worlds within the game itself, and it looks like YouTube group, WorldGoodSquad, are looking to make a game within a game by recreating Mario Kart 64 in the world of Minecraft. While it is a pretty impressive creation, it honestly does not look that fun, although we guess we’d probably have to play it ourselves to get a better idea. Its creators are also planning a tournament and if the response is good, they will be planning another tournament after that. It looks like a pretty faithful recreation, although based on what we can see in the trailer, what’s missing are the powerups and abilities that players can pick up during the race if this were really Mario Kart. In any case if you have got a minute or so to spare, check out the trailer in the video above to see the game in action!

Waterloo Labs Takes Real Life Mario Kart To The Next Level

We’ve seen many people attempt to recreate Mario Kart in real life. This comes in the form of players dressing up like the characters in Mario Kart and then racing these carts around a course, or where Mario Karts are actually recreated in real life, at least in terms of looks. Well now thanks to the folks at Waterloo Labs, it looks like they might have taken real life Mario Kart to a whole new level by making use of technology to actually replicate certain aspects of the game. Players of Mario Kart might be familiar with the various power ups and weapons that are at their disposal within the game, and Waterloo Labs has attempted to recreate that by attaching launchers on their karts which can be used to fire off “shells”, which thanks to the embedded RFID chip will allow the vehicle to react accordingly. It’s a pretty awesome idea and if you want to hear a more detailed explanation or see Waterloo Labs’ Mario Karts in action, check out the video above.

In Real-Life Mario Kart, “I’m-A Gonna Win!”

Screen Shot 2013-01-14 at 2.23.49 PM

“I wish you could play this game in real life.”

Those words have been muttered by almost everyone who’s ever played the game Mario Kart — and if you’ve played video games at all in the past couple decades, chances are you’ve encountered at least one of the titles in this classic franchise.

Well, the folks from National Instruments at Waterloo Labs have just answered the prayers of two generations worth of racing, shell-hurling, mystery-box-collecting Mario Kart fans. They’ve developed a system that uses a variety of electric motors, micro-processors and RFID tags to bring the same gameplay of the video game to real life.

Yes, with real go-karts, stars, shells, and track obstacles. Even Chain Chomps for heaven’s sake.

I think I might cry.

Users race around the track in real go-karts, except these ones are tricked out with ruggedized micro-processors, pressure systems (to shoot shells at people), and servo motors. The servo motors work just like any electric motor would, except they come with a potentiometer.

This means that, coupled with the microprocessor, the go-kart knows when it runs over a banana peel or collects a star, and reacts accordingly (either swiveling off the road in the case of the former, or going a bit faster in the case of the latter).

The folks at Waterloo Labs say they have no plans to commercialize the course, but that “all of the designs and code are available and WLL would be thrilled to help someone set up a system just like it.”

Mario Kart 7 3DS XL $200 Bundle Targets Early December Release

If you are still in two minds over whether to pick up a Nintendo 3DS or not, then you might as well give yourself a few days of waiting. Why do we say so? Well, this December 2nd, there will be a new launch from the house of Nintendo, where they will be rolling out a spanking new $200 (actually, it is $199.99, but who’s counting, really?) bundle that will come with a blue-black Nintendo 3DS XL handheld console inside, along with Mario Kart 7 already pre-installed. Talk about getting some kart racing mayhem goodness right out of the box!

This is definitely worth checking out, considering how the Nintendo 3DS XL already costs $200 as a standalone device, meaning you save $39.99 from purchasing a copy of Mario Kart 7 separately. Perhaps those who are very conscious about their spending, and would want to do so wisely this coming holiday season will give serious consideration to the Mario Kart 7 3DS XL bundle.
