Marshall unveils Hanwell speakers in conjunction with their 50th anniversary

Marshall is without doubt a brand name familiar to musicians all over the world as a company that has put out some pretty amazing guitar/bass amplifiers in the past. Given their expertise on the matter, we guess it’s not surprising that the company has branched out to other aspects of consumer audio like headphones and speakers, and as part of Marshall’s 50th anniversary, the company has revealed the Marshall Hanwell Speaker.

Sporting dual long-throw woofers and hi-fi tweeters, the speaker is housed in a wooden cabinet (which is usually the preferred choice of material when it comes to audio equipment) and covered with black vinyl. It also sports a gold trim and will feature the Marshall logo in gold and basically gives it that rather classic Marshall amp look. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but since the speakers are part of the 50th anniversary, each speaker will feature a numbered commemorative badge which suggests that it could be limited edition (read: expensive).

Marshall has proudly introduced its first active loudspeaker for home audio, the Hanwell. It features a 3.5mm input on the top panel and analog controls for volume, bass and treble. The Hanwell is housed in a wooden cabinet and clad in black vinyl. The grill cloth and gold logo on the front are borrowed from vintage Marshall amplifiers. Each Marshall Hanwell is branded with a numbered anniversary edition commemorative badge. Too bad, there is no info on pricing at this time. [Engadget]

Marshall Hanwell Speakers: Rock and Roll for the Masses

Just like many people who saw Back to the Future: Part I and Part II in their teens, I’ve always wanted the Nike Air Mag shoes, a hoverboard, and a speaker wall that would blow my pants off. Thankfully, none of these has yet passed, as I couldn’t bear spend so much money on the Nike replica shoes that were released last year. However, building my own Marshall stack just got a little easier.

The Marshall Hanwell speaker is the legendary amp company’s first foray into consumer audio, and they released it for their 50th anniversary. It’s an iconic piece of audio design, and it’s their first loudspeaker intended to be used in homes. It has dual long-throw woofers and hi-fi tweeters to deliver Marshall’s signature sound.

The cabinet is made out of wood and vinyl, reminiscent of their trademark amps. It has an analog power switch, volume, bass, and treble controls, though it clearly does not go to 11. A single 3.5mm jack is provided for connecting your media player.

They haven’t yet announced how much it will cost, but it’s supposed to be launched this November, just in time for the holidays. Your pants better watch out!

Marshall's Hanwell HiFi speaker bred from guitar amps, made to pump out

It’s been a year since the legendary guitar amp and speaker makers at Marshall Amplification made a splash in consumer audio with its Marshall Headphones spin-off (Zound / Urbanears). In commemorence of the amplification division’s 50th aniversary, both have announced the Hanwell: Marshall’s first speaker rig that’s made for a counter-top instead of a festival stage. Combo guitar amp / speaker meets HiFi speaker. Most anyone who plays guitar, or has seen the likes of Slash and Nigel Tufnel shredding it up, will immediately recognize the iconic Marshall design ethic down to its iconic plastic nameplate on the front grill and gold accents.

There’s no major tech at play inside of the system, but with looks this cool it’s not like it matters — hopefully, the sound quality will match. Up top there’s a familiar panel housing a 3.5mm input, power toggle and knobs for bass, treble and volume, while internally you’ll find a duo of long-throw woofers and tweeters. The cab itself is made from wood and wrapped in black vinyl tolex like its bigger JCM siblings — heck, it even comes with a coiled audio cable. There’s no specific information beyond all of that such as pricing and availability — especially whether “these go to 11” — but you’ll find a press release and close-up shots after the break.
