Mass Effect 3 Receiving Two New DLC Packs On Feb. 26, Mar. 5

There hasn’t been an ending to a game as controversial as Mass Effect 3′s as BioWare had to go back and deliver an extended cut DLC in order to calm its rabid fans from completely destroying the Internet. New pieces of DLC have been published for the game over the past couple of months after the release of Mass Effect 3, and today, EA is announcing two pieces of DLC for the game.

The first DLC is called Mass Effect 3: Reckoning and is a completely free piece of DLC content that can be used in the game’s multiplayer mode to access new character, weapons and upgrades. EA didn’t specify what those would be, but they did say it would be available on February 26, so we guess we’ll all learn at the same time once it’s released. (more…)

Black Ops 2 Gamers Asked To Install Mass Effect 2?

So you have been having the time of your life ever since Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was released, but there are some segments of gamers who complained of a rather weird issue whenever they make an attempt to install the second disc on a PC. Upon inserting the second disc, one will be prompted to install Mass Effect 2 instead, and so far, more than one person has stepped forward to verify that this is true, thanks to different posts that mentioned the same on the official Steam forums, Reddit, and Call of Duty forums. BioWare is aware of this “discovery”, and they did post an official response on their blog, where they made light of this mix-up by regarding it as “an omen” to point players to Mass Effect instead of Call of Duty.

Of course, BioWare is also serious about keeping customers happy, and they have pledged to give away their upcoming Mass Effect trilogy to the first 50 people who are able to send in legitimate photographic evidence of their swapped disc to community@bioware.com. This deal applies only to those gaming on the PC of course, since the issue affects only PC versions of Black Ops 2. Were you one of those affected?

Black Ops II PC discs surprise players with Mass Effect 2 data

Well this is something of a hairy situation: we’re getting reports that claim some Black Ops II PC discs actually contain data for Mass Effect 2 instead of, you know, the game advertised on the front of the box. One Redditor has compiled a list of links that all lead to complaints of these Mass Effect 2 discs in disguise, and YouTube zeroiez has captured the rather confusing mix up on video for the whole world to see. Sounds like someone made a pretty big mistake.

Specifically, it seems that disc 2 in some copies of Black Ops II actually house install data for Mass Effect 2. Luckily, physical copies of the PC version come with Steam codes, so those who ended up buying half of one game and half of another can redeem the codes and download a complete copy of Black Ops II. This is clearly a mistake in the manufacturing process, with someone labeling Mass Effect 2 discs as Black Ops II discs instead.

Of course, Mass Effect and Call of Duty have nothing to do with one another and are made by entirely different developers and publishers. Mass Effect is an Electronic Arts series while Call of Duty is an Activision series, and many of you know that Activision and EA have a rivalry that goes back years. Aside for the annoyance this is bound to cause PC players who opted for a physical copy of the game, the whole situation is quite funny. Check out the video below for evidence of the mixed up discs, but be warned that it contains some salty language.

At the moment, neither Activision nor Electronic Arts have commented on the mix up, though we’re pretty sure they’re just as confused as all the rest of us. In any case, if you were planning to pick up a physical copy of Black Ops II on PC today, it might be a better idea just to skip it and go through Steam since there’s a chance you’ll end up there anyway. Have any of you PC players found a Mass Effect 2 disc masquerading as Black Ops II, or was your copy good to go?

BioWare wants your suggestions for the next Mass Effect game

We’re you one of the many who were disappointed by the last 15 minutes of Mass Effect 3? Well, now’s your chance to stop complaining and actually do something to make the series better. BioWare is working on a brand new Mass Effect game – we’ve known as much since co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk announced they were leaving the company – and the studio wants to know what you’d like to see in it.

“We’re in early stages of designing a completely new Mass Effect game,” series boss Casey Hudson said on Twitter. “What would you want to see in it?” There are, of course, all sorts of suggestions, but a number of people are telling Hudson that they don’t want the next Mass Effect game to be a prequel. Instead, they’d like to see how the universe is getting along after the war with the Reapers.

We like that idea a lot, and we also the idea of having playable races other than just human, which is a suggestion some others have made. It seems that some also want much more depth in the storytelling with many different branches and by extension many different outcomes for each story arc. That sounds like a winning idea as well, though it might sap a lot of BioWare’s time to attempt something like that.

Whatever BioWare ends up doing, we know that the next Mass Effect game won’t feature Commander Shepard. BioWare has been saying that Mass Effect 3 would be Shepard’s last game since before the title was even released, so we should expect an all new story focusing on a brand new character. BioWare has a whole universe left to explore in the Mass Effect games, so here’s hoping the studio takes advantage of that with the next installment. What would you like to see in the next Mass Effect game?

Watch 19 Mini Marios Play Classic RPG Themes

You might recall musician Diwa de Leon from his entertaining and amusing performances of the Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy music. Well, Diwa is back, and this time he’s formed a new musical group – the Mini Mario Orchestra.

mini mario orchestra

And the first performance of the Mini Mario Orchestra? Well, you’d think he’d play a bunch of music from platformers, but to keep us on our toes, Diwa has decided to do an awesome medley of RPG themes instead – all while dressed up as Mario, and playing each and every instrument himself:

Now wasn’t that special? Mario playing the Dragonborn theme from Skyrim and the Main theme from Mass Effect seems a little out of place, but it’s still pretty great. I only wish he would have played some more tracks from the Paper Mario series. I’d think that would be more appropriate.

If you liked what you saw (and heard,) be sure to swing by and comment on the video’s YouTube page, and let Diwa know what other tunes you’d like to hear from the Mini Mario Orchestra. Personally, I’d like to hear the Casino Night theme from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Mass Effect Trilogy for PS3 arriving this December

For those who have yet to jump aboard the Mass Effect bandwagon, here is a golden chance for you to spend this Christmas holidays with some Mass Effect overload. The Mass Effect Trilogy will be headed for the PS3 in North America this coming December 4th, while our friends living across the pond will have to wait until December 7th – which is a 72 hour wait. The new release will see all three Mass Effect titles come in a single sleek black N7 box. Of course, you can also pick up the original Mass Effect for the Sony PS3 via direct download over PSN if you want to go the non-physical media way.

The “Bring Down the Sky” mission will be thrown into the mix this time around according to BioWare, regardless of whether you have taken the download route or decided to pick up the Mass Effect Trilogy. The PC version of Mass Effect will also include Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station, while folks who settle for the Xbox 360 version will receive the original version as though it was 2007, minus the DLC and Sky fully intact of course.

Next Mass Effect title will not feature Command Shephard

When it comes to the Mass Effect franchise, Commander Shephard is a name that many gamers are probably familiar with. It’s akin to thinking of Master Chief when talking about Halo, which is why we wouldn’t be surprised if there are many gamers out there who will expect Command Shephard to be in future Mass Effect titles. If you’re a fan of the Commander, you might want to brace yourself as come Mass Effect 4 (or whatever the next Mass Effect title will be), the game will be featuring a new hero as opposed to the one that gamers have grown accustomed to. This was revealed by BioWare Montreal when they spoke to the folks at VG247. According to the studio’s producer, Fabrice Condominas: (more…)

Mass Effect N7 Ambassador Watch: Spectre Gadget

If the Mass Effect Wikia is to be believed, the Omni-tool is a flashlight, a scanner, a camera, a media player, a gaming console, a hacking tool, a recycling machine, a medical device and of course a weapon. But apparently one thing it is not is a watch. Thankfully BioWare has the answer.

As you can see the watch is restrained in its geekiness. If you’re looking to outdork someone you’ll be better off with the Watch Boy. The strap and bezel of the N7 Ambassador watch are both made from stainless steel strap and bezel . It’s water resistant up to 300ft,  it has a carbon fiber dial, a laser etching of the N7 and Mass Effect logos as well as the individual number of the watch at the back and a Swiss movement – you won’t be stuck calibrating this machine.
