Mass Effect Trilogy Coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3

If you have a gamer on your holiday shopping list and they like shooters with a little RPG mixed in on the side, EA and BioWare have the perfect gift. On November 6, BioWare is launching the Mass Effect Trilogy compilation. The compilation will have all three Mass Effect games in one package.

The bundle pack will cost just $59.99(USD) and will provide many hours of epic gaming action. Mass Effect is one of the best video game franchises out there in my opinion. The franchise will take you from our first introduction to Commander Shepherd all the way to the point where he (SPOILER ALERT) sacrifices himself to save humanity.

The trilogy pack will be available for the Xbox 360 and PC on November 6. In a kick to the groin for PS3 gamers, there is no launch date offer for the PlayStation version of the Mass Effect Trilogy. I hope that the PS3 version will come in time for holiday gift-giving, but since the original Mass Effect was never released on the PS3, it’s likely to result in some delays for that console.

Mass Effect Trilogy announced for PS3

Hmmm, is it me, or are trilogies the new trend when it comes to video games? Just yesterday morning we took a look at how the Assassin’s Creed Ezio Trilogy was announced to be a PS3 exclusive, and here we are with word that the Mass Effect Trilogy will be launched this coming November 7th to coincide with the first annual “N7 Day” by BioWare, which is actually a worldwide celebration of the Mass Effect franchise. Does this mean we could be looking at public holidays being gazetted by the government in the future based on a video game?

Having said this, it would also mean that Mass Effect will be available for the PS3 platform for the first time thanks to Mass Effect Trilogy, and you can also pick it up digitally as a standalone title courtesy of the PlayStation Network. Are you looking forward to picking up the Mass Effect Trilogy just for the sake of playing Mass Effect on the PS3?

Mass Effect Trilogy announced for 360, PS3, PC

If you’ve somehow managed to miss out on BioWare’s three Mass Effect games, then good news: BioWare and Electronic Arts announced a new Mass Effect Trilogy bundle today. The compilation naturally features all three games in the Mass Effect series, so it should be perfect for those who have yet to jump aboard the Mass Effect bandwagon.

What’s surprising about this announcement is that the Mass Effect Trilogy will be coming to Xbox 360, PC, and PS3, meaning that PS3 players will finally get to enjoy the first Mass Effect title. It was looking bleak for a long time there since Microsoft acted as publisher on the first game, leading many gamers to believe that Mass Effect would never come to PS3. Not only is Mass Effect launching on PS3 in the Mass Effect Trilogy, but it will also be available as a standalone download on PSN.

Unfortunately, PS3 players are going to have to wait a bit longer than Xbox 360 and PC players. While the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the Mass Effect Trilogy will be launching on November 6, PS3 owners won’t be getting it until “a later date.” The announcement from Electronic Arts doesn’t get any more specific than that, so PS3 players might have a while yet before the Mass Effect Trilogy launches on their console of choice.

The Trilogy will only cost $59.99 when its released, which is surprising considering that it features three full games and Mass Effect 3 isn’t that old. BioWare will be celebrating the release of the Mass Effect Trilogy with the first “N7 day,” which is slated for – surprise! – November 7. Details on N7 Day are still pretty slim, but we’re told that there will be a number of in-game and online events to celebrate the new gaming holiday. More information on both the Mass Effect Trilogy and N7 Day should be coming soon, so stay tuned.

BioWare working on new next-gen IP, more Mass Effect on the way

Yesterday, we found out that BioWare co-founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka will be leaving the video games industry (possibly for good), which left fans with some burning questions about the future of the studio. In an effort to reassure us that things will be business as usual at the studio from here on out, BioWare Montreal and Edmonton general manager Aaryn Flynn has published a BioWare Blog post of his own, giving us details on some upcoming projects BioWare is currently working on.

One of these is a brand new IP for next generation consoles. Details on this new IP are understandably light, but Flynn says that Casey Hudson and the other leads at BioWare are currently hard at work coming up with a new fictional universe for us to romp around in. Regardless of your feelings on the current state of BioWare, that’s some exciting news, because the studio has always been great at creating engaging and exciting in-game universes.

In addition to this new IP, there’s more Mass Effect in store. Flynn says that BioWare will continue to release multiplayer and single player story DLC for Mass Effect 3 over the course of the next six months, and he mentions the incoming Omega DLC specifically, which will be releasing later this fall. BioWare is also moving forward for plans for an entirely new Mass Effect game, which is news that will come as a shock to absolutely no one. This new Mass Effect title is apparently still in the very early planning stages, as Flynn says that the dev team is currently trying to tackle the question of “where to go next?” and telling readers that the studio is open to fan suggestions.

Finally, Flynn touched on Dragon Age III: Inquisition, but didn’t give any new details. He just said that the Dragon Age development team has been working with fans of the first two games to find out what they’d like to see in Dragon Age III, and discussed the excitement and difficulty that comes along with making a game with a new engine. In the end, Flynn thanked the BioWare Doctors for all of their hard work over the years, and promised that the company will always honor their legacy. It’s been a bittersweet couple of days for BioWare fans – the company’s two co-founders have left the studio, but BioWare has some exciting projects in the works. What do you think?

NVIDIA, Epic Games bringing Unreal Engine 3 to Windows 8 and Windows RT video

NVIDIA and Epic Games have successfully ported the full PC version of Unreal Engine 3 to both Windows 8 and, more importantly, Windows RT. Demonstrating the achievement on a Tegra 3-powered ASUS Vivo Tab RT, it played a buttery-smooth version of Epic Citadel, suggesting that developers of both PC and Xbox games should have no problem in bringing them over to the new operating system. It also casually mentioned that both Gears of War and Mass Effect were built on the engine, heavily implying that we could see titles of that caliber coming to Microsoft’s low-power OS once it makes it debut on October 26th, but we’ll let you decide for yourself after the break.

Mass Effect 3 Earth DLC contents leaked (Rumor)

We did talk about how the free Mass Effect 3 DLC is well on its way for a release sometime next week, and some sleuths have more or less discovered that the DLC contents has been leaked – although this remains as an unsubstantiated rumor as at press time. A select group of eager fans have claimed that they discovered a bunch of new classes and weapons, at least three for the latter, and a totally new play mode known as Platinum. Just like a credit card designation, Platinum does seem to point towards a higher difficulty setting compared to Gold.

Half a dozen new class variant were also detailed, where each of the N7 agents will feature a hatful of interesting abilities such as (Adept) N7 Fury: Throw, Annihilation Field, Dark Channel, (Soldier) N7 Destroyer: Multi-Frag Grenade, Missile Launcher, Devastator Mode, T5-V battlesuit, (Engineer) N7 Demolisher: Homing Grenade, Arc Grenade, Supply Pylon, (Sentinel) N7 Paladin: Snap Freeze, Incinerate, Energy Drain, (Infiltrator) N7 Shadow: Tactical Cloak, Shadow Strike, Electric Slash, and (Vanguard) N7 Slayer: Phase Disruptor, Biotic Charge, Biotic Slash, has a sword.

Are you looking forward to the new Mass Effect 3 Earth DLC contents?

Mass Effect 3 key Red Ending detail confirmed by BioWare

BioWare has confirmed that a main segment of one of Mass Effect 3′s Extended Cut endings is true – all of it. Of course, if you are a fan of the franchise, you might opt to do the same as those three cute little monkeys, that is, to see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil. For those who are not ready to read about the major spoilers involving Mass Effect 3′s Red Ending details, do not read on after the jump. The rest are very much welcome to. (more…)

Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC skips Europe PS3 owners until July 4th

We mentioned in passing earlier that the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC will arrive in Europe for PS3 owners only on July 4th, which is slightly more than a week from now, but here are more details on the situation. Developer of Mass Effect 3, BioWare, mentioned that folks living in Europe and are rocking to either the Xbox 360 or the PC will already have received the content today, which is June 26th, although PS3 owners have to “suffer” for at least one more week. There were no reasons given by BioWare as to the delay in Europe, which is rather strange since PS3 owners living in North America were not affected by the delay. Having said that, some enterprising folks have already come up with different guides by detailing just how Europe PS3 gamers are able to access US content simply by registering a spanking new account.

Do not expect to enjoy any more gameplay with the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC, although chances are you will be pleased at how the entire story pans out with some clarification thrown into the mix concerning the cut scenes that left many wanting when the game was released earlier this year.

BioWare: More Mass Effect 3 DLCs coming your way

Yes, the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC was released today just like how we speculated yesterday, and for those who feel that they are still not satisfied, how about a little bit of good news to help you end your Tuesday evening on a high note? Producer Mike Gamble from BioWare tweeted earlier today, that there will be future DLCs coming your way for Mass Effect 3 – and the team at BioWare are certainly working on developing that aspect even further at the moment.

“Would now be a good time to talk about how we’re doing more DLC in the future?” was his first tweet, followed by “That was a trick question. We’ll save the future DLC for future chats. Don’t worry though…there’s much more,” later in the day. Nothing specific was mentioned about the availability nor content that this DLC will bring, but at least it ought to give the game a few more miles left in its legs.

Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC now available for Xbox 360

As expected, the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC is now available for the Xbox 360, but Bioware did mention along the way that this ending will still be unable to satisfy everyone out there who has played the game. Of course, hopefully the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC will be able to offer far more closure than the original ending. It seems that Xbox 360 owners are the ones enjoying this downloadable content, although PC and PS3 gamers have yet to get a whiff of it.

For PS3 gamers living across the pond in Europe, they will have to stretch their patience to run it through by another week – which would be July 4. At least we over here Stateside will be celebrating Independence Day then. The entire Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC will weigh in at a rather hefty 1.85GB in size, so make sure there is enough free space on your console beforehand.
