Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Announced With New Trailer

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released back in the summer of 2008 with the next game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 5, confirmed to be in the works in separate interviews in 2011  and 2012. After waiting for four years since the last game, Hideo Kojima has finally revealed some details for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid game, which will be called Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

MGS5:TPP will once again star everyone’s favorite stealth-action hero, Solid Snake, as he has been in a hospital, comatose for 9 years. Snake wakes up and must escape the hospital, although 9 years without moving his body makes escaping rather difficult which results in him trying his best to escape while crawling through the hospital.

MGS5:TPP will be a combination of The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which Kojima revealed during a panel at the Game Developers Conference. Both portions of Metal Gear Solid 5 used the studio’s new FOX engine, which offered some really nice visuals. There’s no word on what platforms the game will be made available, but after viewing the newly-released trailer, we think it’s safe to say next-generation platforms would be considered.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance On PS3 Gets Exclusive VR Missions

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance On PS3 Gets Exclusive VR MissionsWhen it comes to the Metal Gear series, stealth is always preferred over direct confrontation. Sure, it will require a whole lot more thinking on your part, but at the very least, your character needs not break a sweat to sneak past enemies. Well, with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, you more or less get the best of two worlds, where it merges the kind of top-notch action that many expect from the folks over at PlatinumGames, in addition to rich storytelling and narrative of Kojima Productions.

There will be classic Metal Gear appearances including Codec calls, Metal Gear Ray, High Frequency Blades and the titular character, Raiden, although it will also be peppered with new elements such as new villains, new allies, and of course, an anticipated Blade Mode. Apart from that, PS3 owners who pick up Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be able to enjoy exclusive DLC VR Missions that will throw in another 30 all-new missions, boasting the classic VR/Virtual Reality look that was inspired by the original Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions.

Solid Snake Amigurumi Will Sneak His Way into Your Heart

We’ve seen an amigurumi of Old Snake before, but I like the young Solid Snake much better than that bitter – but heroic! – old fart. Which is why if I had this amigurumi I would hug it so tightly a ration would come out before I even dropped it.

But since he’s just 5.5″ tall, it’d be easier to squeeze him with one hand than give it a full CQC hug. But look at that awesomely stitched beard. And that mullet! Good thing he doesn’t have a crocheted cigarette or I would’ve given in and bought it, shipping be damned.

Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes Intro+Gameplay Video

Metal Gear Solid (MGS) fans have undoubtedly seen the first Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes images last week when the game was revealed in Tokyo for MGS’ 25th anniversary event. Obviously, you all wanted to see the video, which is a must-see for all gamers, so here it is: the official video trailer that shows both cinematic scenes and game play sequences rendered with the Konami’s Fox Engine. Not only the game engine looks great, but it is also designed to run on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. Now the question is: how good will this look on current-gen consoles?

Metal Gear Solid Movie in the Works

Fans of the Metal Gear Solid franchise of games who have been wanting to see Solid Snake on the big screen are apparently getting their wish. MGS is finally becoming a movie. There has been talk about the possibility for a while now – and it is now confirmed.

mgsThe film will be produced by Avi Arad, the producer behind many of the latest Marvel blockbusters (and a few flops too.) It’s too early for any plot details or casting news, but if they do it properly it could be a really good movie. Apparently, the film will be released by Columbia Pictures, which conveniently is owned by Sony.

It will be interesting to see how they will handle the plot for this movie, because they will want to at least make a trilogy I’m sure. The first movie’s plot will need to be perfect enough to ensure additional installments.

Metal Gear Solid the movie has been confirmed

If you were thrilled at the idea of a new Metal Gear Solid game, here’s something that will please you even further. While there has been some talk about the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid movie (who wouldn’t want to see that, right?!), it seems that such a possibility has been made into a reality as the Metal Gear Solid movie has been officially confirmed. It will be produced by none other than Avi Arad, the name behind some of the later Marvel productions, but unfortunately details about the movie are a bit scarce at this point, such as a possible plot, the cast and release date.

While the concept of Metal Gear Solid being made into a movie sounds like a good idea, there have been many video games that have been made into movies somewhat unsuccessfully (Doom comes to mind). They either stick too closely to the game’s plot which does not translate well into a movie, or they spin it off so far that apart from the characters, there’s nothing that resembles the game. In any case we hope with the success that Avi Arad has had with recent Marvel movies that Metal Gear Solid will be another notch he can add to his belt.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance gets February 2013 release date

A magazine ad that ran has slated Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for a release this coming February – which is approximately half a year away, and is pretty much spot on to previous whispers that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will feature an ‘early 2013′ release date according to publisher Konami. This particular advertisement that you see was printed in Intent Media’s Sourcebook, coupled with another release date for a different game – slating PES 2013 to be released in October (next year, of course). For those who are wondering just how much more the Metal Gear franchise can be milked, all I can say is, there is plenty of room to do so – and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will play its role in the franchise by being a hack & slash spin-off, courtesy of Platinum Games who developed Bayonetta. We do hope that Konami  would come up with an official release date for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance soon, instead of relying on just ‘early 2013′ as at press time.

Next generation Fox Engine from Hideo Kojima to be demonstrated in August

Word on the street has it that August 30 is going to be a very, very special date for the Metal Gear Solid franchise. After all, it has been bandied about that Metal Gear Solid 5′s Fox Engine is long due for an August 30 demonstration, thanks to Hideo Kojima’s most recent announcement that also points toward the potential revealing of Metal Gear Solid 5. Kojima mentioned that his team’s pending engine was “nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along. Originally we were going to do this for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but a lot happened along the way and instead it is being made with the engine they have at Platinum Games. Production studios in Japan are nearly extinct, a fact that we have recognized for nearly 10 years, and although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do…on August 30th in Japan to be more specific.”

It seems that there is also the chance of Fox Engine being specially made for next-generation consoles – and that would mean the fabled PS4, no? Are you excited at what Fox Engine can bring to the table?

Metal Gear Solid Rising Official Gameplay Footage

Konami just released the official Metal Gear Solid Rising gameplay footage that explains how the controls work and what the player can do. If you’ve been following E3 for the past couple of years, you probably know that Metal Gear Solid Rising (MGS Rising) features a 3D-engine that allows the player to cut any target objects in a realistic way. This is typically very difficult as most polygonal objects in games are normally solid and hollow. Konami did a great job with this.

On the surface, the game itself is a fancy beat-them-up not unlike God of War, Heavenly Sword and other titles of that sort, except that MGS Rising features its own fancy combo hits and finish. Raiden, the main character from Metal Gear Solid 2, was a little boo-booed when he popped into the series (well, it’s just hard to replace Solid Snake…) but this may be the title that will make him enter the video game Hall of Fame. What do you think? Is Konami’s Raiden character ready for a main role?
