LG Spirit 4G arrives on MetroPCS, delivers 4.5-inch display and ICS to the budget-minded crowd

LG Spirit 4G arrives on MetroPCS, delivers 45inch display and ICS to the budgetminded crowd

We are definitely no strangers to seeing MetroPCS bring well-priced, decently-specced Android handsets to market, and we have a feeling that’s something potential and current subscribers certainly appreciate. Because, well, who doesn’t like choice? With today’s LG Spirit 4G launch, MetroPCS continues to expand its LTE-at-a-bargain ideals, announcing a smartphone that carries some pretty decent specs for being contract-free and costing a mere 269 bucks. Naturally, the 4.5-inch display is among the Spirit’s main highlights, but there’s also an unspecified 1.2GHz, dual-core CPU, a 5-megapixel rear shooter capable of 1080p video, and Ice Cream Sandwich, to boot. The carrier’s quick to point out that its newly introduced slab is a follow-up to that LG Motion 4G we saw last year, and that it’s compatible with those LTE plans which were unveiled earlier this month. It’s worth noting that while the LG Spirit 4G’s official MSRP is $269, MetroPCS will have it up for grabs, starting today, at the cheaper price of $199 — that, of course, after a beloved mail-in rebate and for “a limited time” only. You’ll find a couple more press shots after the break, and be sure to hit the source link if you’re interested in grabbing one of these for yourself.

Rhapsody and MetroPCS announce new $5 unlimited on-demand plan for monthly subscribers

Rhapsody and MetroPCS announce new $5 unlimited ondemand plan for monthly subscribers

In a move that could be considered slightly similar to what Muvu’s been doing with Cricket, Rhapsody announced today it’s teamed up with MetroPCS to bring a more desirable music plan to the carrier’s subscribers. What this means, essentially, is that MetroPCS customers can now pay an extra $5 per month on their plan to stream as many on-demand tunes as possible from Rhapsody’s extensive repertoire, so long as it’s one of those recently introduced “simpler” deals. Naturally, how much music folks can stream will also depend on which month-to-month plan they are on, but the $5 monthly Rhapsody subscription is set to be the same across MetroPCS’ $40, $50 and $60 plans. According to Rhapsody’s president, Jon Irwin, the MetroPCS partnership was a no-brainer, as he believes it will be “instrumental in the growth of the on-demand streaming music business,” adding that the service is “eager to continue to bring new offers to customers that benefit all parts of the digital music value chain.”

MetroPCS announces three new plans, offers unlimited 4G

MetroPCS has unveiled new calling and data plans for current and future subscribers alike. The three new plans are in effect as of now, and are said to be “simple plans for a simpler life.” Of the three plans it has rolled out, one has unlimited 4G mobile broadband, while all of them offer unlimited talk and text.

MetroPCS

When you head over to the MetroPCS website, it shows a placeholder image that reads “We’re making some changes right now,” complete with images of hardworking Android bots, so we should see the website updated soon. The three new plans are priced at $40, $50, and $60 per month, with the three of them differing in their data offerings.

The lowest price tier offers the first 500MB of data at 4G speeds before dropping to slower 3G, while the next plan up ($50 per month) offers the first 2.5GB of data free. For $10 more per month, users can jump to the $60 plan and enjoy unlimited 4G data, never having to worry about throttled speeds. Customers will need a 4G LTE smartphone.

MetroPCS offers several nice smartphones to choose from, including the much-loved and wildly popular Samsung Galaxy S III, as well as the lesser known Admire 4G. The carrier’s handset offerings also include the Motion 4G and Connect 4G from LG, as well as ZTE’s Avid 4G phone, among others. Can’t quite afford the handset of your choice? MetroPCS now offers financing.

MetroPCS Has Simpler 4G LTE Plans

metropcs plans MetroPCS Has Simpler 4G LTE PlansThey say that being simple is best, and I could not agree with you more, especially when it comes to the number of wireless rate plans in the market. MetroPCS wants to simplify things before they get out of hand, and they intend to reduce the clutter surrounding many wireless rate plans available at the moment by rolling out simpler 4G LTE plans which are touted to offer superior value and the most affordable unlimited 4G LTE available.

The plans do offer unlimited 4G LTE data, text and talk for a mere $60 each month, and on top of that, $60 already includes all of the taxes and regulatory fees, so you need not fork out a penny more than you should. There will be a couple of other unlimited data plans with 2.5GB at 4G LTE speed ($50) and unlimited data with 500MB at 4G LTE speed ($40) which will also include unlimited talk and text. If your current contract with a different mobile carrier is about to expire, would you consider what MetroPCS has in store?

Leap Wireless and MetroPCS offer mobile phone financing

Contract free wireless carriers are the way to go for many people around the world for a number of reasons. Traditionally one of the biggest drawbacks of going with a contract free wireless provider such as Leap Wireless or MetroPCS has been the fact that having no contract means you have to pay a large upfront price for a smartphone. Some of those upfront costs can be as much as $500 depending on the device chosen.

metropcs_bidding_war

MetroPCS has announced a financing program working with Progressive Finance and BillFloat that will provide handset financing options to customers. Leap Wireless is also working with Progressive Finance. Either of those two financing companies will cover the cost of the handset upfront and the customer will pay back the cost of the device plus interest and repayment fees.

Neither financing partner require credit checks. All the customer has to do is provide access to an active bank account. The financing program launched during Black Friday and is now available nationwide at Leap Wireless corporate stores and dealers around the country.

The only caveat to using financing with either of the prepaid carriers is that the customer has to spend $200 more on hardware and accessories. The financing plan with Leap will pay for up to 90% of the value of the purchase. That means that the customer could purchase an iPhone 5 with $105 upfront including the first month of service and 10% of the purchase price of the iPhone. The account can be paid off in 90 days without any interest, but consumers can take up to nine months to pay the full amount.

Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G arrives on MetroPCS

To add to its collection of budget-friendly handsets, regional carrier MetroPCS has announced the Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G. It’s available now for only $169 without a two-year contract, and compared to the previous Galaxy Admire, this one comes packing with more power, a larger screen, better battery life, and 4G LTE support.

The Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G features a 3.65-inch HVGA TFT display, a 1.0GHz processor, a 3MP camera, and comes pre-loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It’s certainly not much to look at, and it won’t please the power users of the Android army, but it will certainly do the trick for everyday users who simply just need a phone.

Of course, if you need more fire power you can always go for Samsung’s Galaxy S III, which is also available contract-free at MetroPCS. Of course, it’ll cost you a pretty penny (49,900 of them, or $499), but you’ll be getting a fast and sleek device in exchange. However, if that’s just not in your budget, the Admire 4G is probably a good second choice.

The Galaxy Admire 4G is available right now online and retails for $169 before tax. However, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow if you want to pick up the new phone in-store. MetroPCS service plans start at $30 per month, with an unlimited 4G option currently offered for $55 per month, and that’s without a contract, mind you.

MetroPCS announces the Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G: 3.65-inch screen, LTE and $169 price tag

MetroPCS announces the Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G 365inch screen, LTE and $169 price tag

Perhaps it’s because the holiday season is well upon us, but MetroPCS decided now was the perfect time to welcome Samsung’s Galaxy Admire 4G to its growing portfolio of wallet-friendly handsets. With today’s introduction of the overhauled Admire, the Wireless for All carrier is surely expanding on its LTE-on-a-budget promise, as the device comes priced at a mere $169 (and that’s without a beloved two-year commitment, of course). Naturally, this means we can’t expect many high-end, drool-inducing specs onboard, but that’s not to say some folks out there won’t appreciate the 3.65-inch, HVGA display, a 1GHz CPU, 3-megapixel rear shooter and a taste of Google’s famed Gingerbread — after all, there’s always that other galactic brethren if you’re interested in getting more bang for your buck. The Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G will be up for grabs starting today on the MetroPCS website, while those looking to stop at nearby brick-and-mortar shop are going to have to wait until tomorrow to pick one up.

US DoJ and FBI investigating T-Mobile/MetroPCS merger, asks FCC to put review on hold

Things have been rather quiet on the T-Mobile/MetroPCS merger front but it looks like the merger could be running into some hiccups as the US Department of Justice and the FBI have filed a request with the FCC, asking the agency to “defer action” with regards to the T-Mobile/MetroPCS merger. Basically the DoJ and the FBI are interested in conducting some research and investigation of their own over the proposed merger, claiming that they will be “reviewing this matter for any national security, law enforcement, and public safety issues.” Of course this does not mean that the FCC has approved the merger, but rather that the FCC put whatever investigations or discussions they have on hold while the DoJ and FBI conduct their business. The FCC is currently on day 32 of its 180-day review although it is unclear if they will be pausing their stop watches while the investigation is carried out.
