Minecraft Player Wants To Remake Planet Earth To A 1:1500 Scale

Screen Shot 2013 01 05 at 3.25.30 PM e1357428760908 640x357 Minecraft Player Wants To Remake Planet Earth To A 1:1500 ScaleWe’ve seen many dedicated Minecraft players recreate worlds within the game, but now it looks like one particular Minecraft player by the name of lentebriesje is looking to recreate our planet Earth within Minecraft to a 1:1500 scale and given the size of our planet, 1:1500 would make it an extremely impressive feat. The tool lentebriesje is using is called WorldPainter, which for the non-Minecraft player is a map generator designed for Minecraft. What makes this feat even more impressive is that lentebriesje seems to be following the popular saying about how the devil is in details and he will be attempting to make each continent as accurate as possible. He has created several locations so far, such as the California Coast and the English Channel just to name a few, and if you’d like to see the rest of his work, you can head on over his image gallery for the rest of the screenshots. What do you guys think? Pretty impressive stuff, right?

Forget about Second Life or Sims. Planet Minecraft member lentebriesje is currently working on a series of 1:1500 Minecraft maps that are based on our own planet. So you can play on Earth while playing on Earth.

Lentebriesje is using WorldPainter – a free and open-source program that makes it easier to create Minecraft maps – as well as a global relief model of Earth made by the National Geophysical Data Center for more accurate topography. Lentebriesje made the maps as building platforms; he’ll leave the man-made structures up to other players to recreate (or not!). Also there’s nothing to mine in this mini-Earth but stone.

Minecraft Xbox 360 Hits 5 Million Copies

minecraft 5 million Minecraft Xbox 360 Hits 5 Million CopiesWho would have thought that the console version of Minecraft on the Xbox 360 would have done as well as it did? In fact, since the game’s launch in May last year, Minecraft Xbox 360 has already gone quintuple platinum, meaning it has passed the 5 million mark sold, according to Mojang business developer Daniel Kaplan. When you compare that to the PC and Mac versions of Minecraft, those have moved 8.7 million copies as of point of publishing, which means the Xbox 360 version is not too far behind in total sales.

In fact, just to get a better idea on just how popular the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was when it first rolled out on May 9th, 2012, it ended up as profitable in a matter of a single hour, this after moving more than 400,000 copies within its first 24 hours on sale, and smashing all prior Xbox Live arcade digital sales records in the process. It touched 1 million in sales in a matter of five days, dethroning Call of Duty from the top of the Xbox Live activity chart along the way for a full week during the month of October.

Developer 4J Studios tweeted the news on New Year’s Eve, saying that the Xbox 360 edition of Minecraft “passed 5 million sales.” A week prior to that, Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson tweeted that the game had sold over 453,000 copies on Christmas Eve alone, through both PC copies and the Xbox Live Arcade.

Another tweet from 4J Studios today announced that the development team has returned to work and is working on fixing a handful of bugs brought on by Minecraft’s Title Update 7, which launched last month. The team has promised that a patch for the update will be released sometime this month.

Title Update 7 introduced animal breeding, potion brewing, experience points, enchantment tables, and new biomes and items. Title Update 8, which is still in development, will bring “The End,” a floating island made of Obsidian, a material called End Stone, a home to a high concentration of Endermen creatures, and a boss called the Ender Dragon.

Super Mario Bros. 1-1 Level Recreated In Minecraft

We’ve seen gamers create all sorts of amazing things in Minecraft, ranging from replicas of things in real life to creating virtual worlds. The good news is that if you’re a fan of both Minecraft and Super Mario Bros., then you might be interested in checking out the video above where both Gavin and Geoff of Achievement Hunter put together the Super Mario Bros. 1-1 level in Minecraft, calling it Mariocraft in the process. If you’ve ever played Super Mario Bros., then you will know that this recreation in Minecraft is pretty darn spot on, save for the character models and textures of course, but in terms of layout it is like the real thing.

It took them about four hours to replicate, and in the video you will be seeing the level from two different perspectives before the video zooms out and they show you how it is made. We have to admit that this is pretty cool so if you have a couple of minutes to spare, you should definitely check it out.

An officially-licensed replica of the handy torch from Minecraft. Unlike the one in the game, not only can you place this anywhere you like, you can also – drum roll please – take it with you, even when it’s lit. On the other hand, it’ll be considerably harder to carry a ton of these.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition title update 7 detailed

Minecraft players on Xbox 360 are about to take a pretty significant step up with title update 7. Recently detailed on PlayXBLA.com, title update 7 for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition brings the game up to PC version 1.0.1, so there are plenty of noteworthy additions with this release. Unfortunately, The End won’t be featured in title update 7, with players being forced to wait until title update 8 to take on the Ender Dragon.

No matter though, because TU 7 adds things like experience points, animal breeding, potion making, and the enchanting table. The very rare Mushroom Biome is being added in this update, as are Nether Fortresses. Players will have a new tutorial world to check out once title update 7 hits, and villagers will finally be added to those empty NPC villages.

So, even though you’ll have to wait until title update 8 for The End to be added to the game, there are still plenty of things to get excited about in title update 7. The 4J Studios Twitter account says that there are few other things missing from TU 7, such as jungles, ocelots, iron golems, and spawn eggs, but those will all be added in a later update. Unfortunately, there’s no release date for TU 7 yet, so players may be waiting a while for this stuff to arrive.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has taken off in a pretty big way. It’s sold millions of copies since launch, and has even managed to beat out Call of Duty for the top spot on Xbox Live’s weekly activity chart in the past. 4J Studios shows no sign down of slowing down with the updates either, so players should have a steady stream of new content to look forward to for some time to come.

Minecraft Light-Up Torch

You know, there is something interesting about bringing something from the video game world into the real, physical world that we live in. For starters, it certainly fires up the imagination further, as you no longer have to make do with a DIY substitute (or a stick for a lightsaber, for instance), and the other would be the fact that is shows the world just where your loyalties lie when it comes to science fiction and video game franchises. Having said that, here we are with the $34.99 Minecraft Light-Up Torch that comes in all its pixelated glory, being full well capable of producing level 14 light, and is far easier to obtain one with cash compared to crafting one out.

The Minecraft Light-Up Torch can be mounted to your wall for that added touch of authenticity, and as a night light, it will still be able to scare monsters away, making sure they remain under the bed and do not, in any way, terrorize your little ones at night. It is powered by a trio of AAA batteries, so we would highly recommend rechargeables if you are going to use this for the long run.
