Minecraft Documentary Now Free To Watch On YouTube

Do you think that humans love to build? I suppose the answer would be in the affirmative, especially when you take into consideration the fairly large number of architectural achievements that we have seen in the past, such as the ancient pyramids of Giza, or the Eiffel Tower, as well as the Treasury in Petra, Jordan. In the 21st century, here we are with video games that encourage gamers to build, from the Sim series of titles to Mojang’s ever popular Minecraft. There is the Minecraft documentary which is now available as a free to watch video on YouTube, although it was originally released sometime last year under the banner of 2 Player Productions.

This would mean you will now be able to enjoy quite the insight when it comes to the making of the indie phenomenon known as Minecraft. The title of the documentary is Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, where it will see Markus “Notch” Persson and his team at Mojang being followed through their first year, which would mean all the way from alpha development to full release. This is a full length documentary, make no mistake about it, so do expect a fair number of discussions and story with the Mojang team.

Minecraft Light-Up Diamond Ore for the hardcore Minecraft fan in your life

minecraft-ore-lightEveryone has a favorite hobby, game or toy, and if it so happens that you know someone who lives, eats, and breathes Minecraft, you would do him or her well with the $19.99 Minecraft Light-Up Diamond Ore (also available in the UK from Amazon). Yes, this is one diamond ore that will be able to provide some ambient lighting whenever dusk falls, and it carries an adequate amount of light to ensure that monsters will remain hidden in their closets and under your bed so that you are able to enjoy a good night’s rest.

100% inspired by Minecraft and made by the good people over at ThinkGeek, the Minecraft Light-Up Diamond Ore works in a very simple manner. In order to activate it, just give it a tap, and you’re good to go. There are three different lighting levels to choose from, and they are low, medium, bright. Sure, it is not going to be as glitzy as an actually diamond for the other half, but one thing’s for sure – it is a piece of rock that is a whole lot more affordable. This is the ideal night light for Minecraft fans, and best of all is, you do not need to fear about accusations that you have a bootleg item from the Minecraft universe, as this is an officially licensed Minecraft collectible. Made out of ABS plastic, it will glow with internal LEDs thanks to the pair of AA batteries that power this bad boy.

Minecraft 1.7.1 Update To Release Tomorrow

Minecraft 1.7.1 Update To Release TomorrowEvery decent game needs an update once in a while as long as it remains popular among gamers, as updates would bring about more stability, bug fixes, as well as the possibility of prolonging the life of the game. Well, Minecraft has been pretty big for quite some time now, and tomorrow, we will see the release of what has been dubbed to be an “update that changed the world”. I guess you might want to get some sleep tonight before October 25th rolls around, since whether you have enough shuteye or not, the update will still be rolling out, so you might as well do so.

The Minecraft 1.7.1 update has been specially described by developer Jeb to be “The Update that Changed the World.” The whole reason behind that dramatic sounding title has been attributed to the fact that the patch’s main change would affect how worlds are generated. While world generation will remain as the main focus of the patch, there will be additional content thrown into the mix too, including a ton of new blocks, additions to Fishing, and changes to maps, while meta changes dealing with achievements, multiplayer, resource packs and chat are also part of the deal. Of course, don’t forget that there will be plenty of bug fixes making their way, too!

Minecraft Blamed As Student Brings Weapons To School

Minecraft Blamed As Student Brings Weapons To School

Its not like games haven’t been blamed in the past for inciting violence, but one probably wouldn’t put indie hit Minecraft along with games that are often blamed. However, the father of a nine year old school boy in Florida believes that Minecraft incited his son to act out in a negative way. The boy reportedly told his friends that he had weapons in his backpack, the friends told on him which lead to school officials searching the boy’s backpack. They found an unloaded gun and a magazine with six bullets, a steak knife and a small sledgehammer.

Fortunately, no one was injured and the police confiscated all of the weapons. The gun belonged to the boy’s father, who claimed that while it was stored in a drawer, it couldn’t be fired as the firing pin had been removed. Speaking to WFTV news, he said that his son was “playing a character he learned from Minecraft,” as “they use hammers to dig and knives and guns to protect themselves from zombies.” The unnamed boy was charged with three counts of possession and he has been sentenced to home confinement by a state judge as a result of his actions, bringing lethal weapons into a school.

Ordnance Survey Agency Recreates Britain In Minecraft

Ordnance Survey Agency Recreates Britain In MinecraftWe’ve seen people create some pretty amazing things with Minecraft, recreating entire worlds from other games, and now it looks like the Ordnance Survey has decided to use Minecraft to recreate the British terrain, only missing out on Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man. For those unfamiliar, the Ordnance Survey is basically Britain’s national mapping agency and the Minecraft recreation was thanks to their in-house mapping tools, OS Terrain 50 and OS VectorMap District. The entire creation took them two weeks to put together and is 22 billion blocks big.

According to Graham Dunlop, the Innovation Lab Manager at Ordnance Survey, “The purpose of our Labs team is to explore and assess ideas for new products and services. When Joseph Braybrook joined the team as part of Ordnance Survey’s summer internship programme, we discovered he was an avid Minecraft fan and we decided to explore the potential educational benefits of the popular video game. We decided to build a Minecraft world using free-to-use OS OpenData products to display the landscape and terrain of Great Britain.” Pretty impressive, huh? Imagine if it took 22 billion blocks to recreate the entire Britain, we can only imagine how many blocks it would take if someone, or a team, were to recreate the entire planet Earth.

86,000 square miles of Great Britain meticulously recreated in Minecraft

86,000 square miles of Great Britain meticulously recreated in Minecraft

There are those with free time, and then there’s Joseph Braybrook. This fine bloke managed to recreate some 86,000 square miles of Great Britain within the Minecraft universe, and moreover, it took but a fortnight to concoct. Further justifying his work as more than goofing off, he used Ordnance Survey terrain data in the world’s construction, leading Graham Dunlop, OS Innovation Lab Manager, to proclaim the following: “We think we may have created the largest Minecraft world ever built based on real-world data.” The new universe contains over 22 billion Minecraft blocks, and once players have downloaded the 3.6GB file, they’re free to build at will. Just don’t go planting any US flags — that’s just downright rude.

Epic Nightmare Before Christmas Minecraft Rollercoaster: Buckle up for Burton

It’s that time of the year again – a very long time before Thanksgiving – so we’re all getting ready to celebrate Christmas!  This Nightmare Before Christmas Minecraft rollercoaster is the perfect way for me to kick off my celebratory events.  I can only imagine how long this project took, as the rollercoaster has an incredible amount of detail and lasts for more than five minutes!  Update: I stopped imagining and checked the YouTube description – several builders took two and a half months in order to complete this project!  That’s three and six tenths of the time that it takes for a woman to go through pregnancy!

The kids sit ’round the fireplace, and you gather them near – yelling and snapping and flicking their ears.  Watch a movie, you say, with the utmost delight – what the children believe, is a Christmas fright. – “Tim” Edgar Allen Amy Poehler

All of the design in this coaster is professionally done, and the characters are really brought to life.  Not only that, but all of this is done on an incredible scale.  The builders, of course, have stereotypical Minecraft-guy YouTube usernames: Rivergrl21, Nuro, WayHighMinecraftGuy, Vinny8Ball666, AnOldBum, Nycwatcherable, and DrWrebagzhoe.  My bet: DrWrebagzhoe is nothing more than a dentist, if that.  He can probably write prescriptions about as legally as these guys can build an X-Ray gun.  Hint: you aren’t allowed to build lethal X-Ray guns.  Anymore.

    halloween

This Minecraft rollercoaster is an amazing creation in itself, and will be that much more special to fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas.  And, now… the moment you’ve all been waiting for… I will attempt to hang 30 binder clips from my armpit hair the rollercoaster ride-in video is below!

Even if you did little more than get seasick and spit up during that video, you have to appreciate all of the work that was put into this creation.  Think of how many blocks were placed!  Think of how many dubstep versions of Halloween they had to sift through!

If you’re still hungry for more interwebz chow, check out the Minecraft version of Man of Steel!  If you’re not into unrealistic superheros with bad rock allergies, then cuddle up with the life-size Creeper cushion, which (supposedly) will not explode.  (It’s a marketing tactic – no one would buy it if they said straight out that it explodes.)

Nintendo Explains Minecraft Absence From Their Platform

Nintendo Explains Minecraft Absence From Their PlatformAs you guys probably are aware, the popular game Minecraft has made its way onto a variety of platforms such as the PC, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, and mobile devices like the iPhone, although we’re sure some are wondering why the game is still missing from Nintendo’s platform? We’re sure many are asking that question and when Nintendo was asked about the potential of Minecraft being developed for either the Wii U or 3DS handheld console, Nintendo’s business development manager, Dan Adelman, was quoted as saying, “We’re big fans. We have a continuing relationship with Mojang, and respect all the work that they’re doing, but no announcements at this time.”

This seems to echo Mojang’s Jens Bergensten’s statement from earlier this year where he stated back in March that Minecraft for the Wii U would be “very unlikely”. Assuming this is true and Nintendo truly has no plans to bring the game onto their platform, it would be another blow dealt to Nintendo gamers. So far we’ve seen several big studios pass on developing games for the Wii U, and even third-party developers tasked to port existing titles to the Wii U have also stated that there is no interest in the platform at the moment.

This particular Mass Effect themed DLC pack came was announced by Minecraft Xbox 360 developer 4J Studios, where it will bring with it a Mass Effect textures set, a new themed user interface, a pre-built world that is based on the Mars Facility, three dozen new skins and 22 music tracks from Mass Effect 3.
