MANUAL Coffeemaker: Coffee Has Never Been This Minimal

Most days, I make my daily java using a stove-top espresso maker. They make coffee quite quickly, and I don’t have to surveil it while it’s working, so I can do some other tasks at the same time. This coffeemaker is very minimal. You don’t need much to make your own cup, almost anywhere.

The MANUAL Coffeemaker was designed by Craighton Berman, a design studio based in Chicago. It focuses your coffee-making efforts on a single cup at a time, ensuring you’ll get the best cup of java possible.

This is a slow extraction coffee appliance, and it will sit quietly on your counter top, allowing you to control the preparation. It’s been designed to maximize the time that the water and ground come in contact, ensuring the most robust cup of joe.

It’s an interesting idea, and I can see this working well in office settings which sometimes do not have a drip coffeemaker where people usually have to settle for instant coffee.

Minimal Float Wall Desk: We’ll All Float on Okay

My two desks are quite cluttered. There’s no denying it, but something like this minimal desk might actually encourage you to cut down on the wires and clutter in your home office.

The Minimal Float Wall Desk can be wall-mounted at any height, making it either a sitting or a standing desk. It can be ordered in walnut or rift oak, and mounts sleekly onto any wall at the height you choose – assuming you have wall studs to mount it into. It’s got a full-length slide out tray for a keyboard, mouse, writing pad or other accessories.

The design is extremely clean, but there’s one problem: you’ll have to work extra hard to hide away all of your wires, because the exposed nature of this minimal desk seems to abhor wires of any kind!

You can get the Minimal Float Wall Desk on sale for $699(USD) over at the dlab shop – it’s normally priced at $1199, so that’s a great deal.

Rdio goes minimalist, tries another redesign on for size

Rdio goes minimalist, tries another redesign on for size

Finally get settled into the last Rdio redesign from just a few months ago? Well, we’re afraid you’ve got a bit more adjusting to do. The streaming music service has now rolled out another sweeping visual overhaul of its website and desktop apps — one that ditches the former iTunes-like appearance for a far more minimalist look, although all of the key elements remain in the same places as before. Naturally, that brings with it yet another software update for the desktop apps, although there’s no word on any changes for its mobile apps just yet.

TAKTIK Case Adds Substance to Your iPhone

This iPhone case looks extremely sturdy, and you can bet that if you drop your iPhone inside of this thing, it won’t get a scratch. The TAKTIK iPhone case is a robust enclosure that will protect your iPhone no matter what happens.

The TAKTIK case was designed by the Chicago-based studio MINIMAL, the same guys behind the insanely popular TikTok and LunaTik iPod nano watches. The case has a shockproof suspension system that’s enclosed between to anodized aluminum bezels and compression seals to prevent water from seeping in.

You can even order it with an additional Gorilla Glass lens to further protect your phone, while still allowing you to use the touchscreen. The headphone jack is made out of aircraft-grade anodized aluminum that snaps up to offer rapid access to the port. There is a dedicated lever to open it quickly as well. They also will be offering an optional bike mount for the case, which is a great idea.

The project is being launched through Kickstarter, and was completely funded within a couple of days. They have already amassed over $200,000, with a goal of $150,000, so it definitely will be produced. The TAKTIK case starts at $75(USD) and goes up to $250 for a ‘Future-Proof’ version that ships with one case for your iPhone 4/4S and one for the upcoming iPhone 5.
