3Doodler – Drawing in 3D

Unknown-1

They say that art is good for the soul, and if that’s supposed to mean it’s good therapy, then I guess I’m on board. I don’t know how many times I’ve involved myself in painting, drawing, heck, even coloring, in order to calm myself, or simply as a distraction from some “less than stellar” life events. If you’d like to get your creative juices flowing, you might love this next gadget.

Check out the 3Doodler, a nifty, new artistic tool that let’s your imagination be your limit. The 3Doodler lets you create your designs in the air, where they magically transform into handheld art that you can put anywhere. By using melting ABS or PLA plastic the 3Doodler draws in the air, or on surfaces. It’s compact and easy to use. You simply plug it in, and as the plastic flows, you can start drawing almost anything.

The process works like this; as the 3Doodler draws, it extrudes this heated ABS or PLA plastic, which cools and quickly solidifies into a strong and relatively stable object. So if you’ve ever dreamed of having your drawings lift off the page and take their place on your bookshelf, this is the tool for you. As with anything else worth doing, there seems to be a bit of a learning curve, but with practice, you should be able to make some amazing creations. Check out the videos HERE.

We have reported on the 3Doodler before, when it was an especially noteworthy Kickstarter project, but now, refinements have been made, and with the addition of PLA, even more artistic applications can be discovered. The awesome 3Doodler pen is a reality, and if you’d like to have one, they are available for pre-order from 3Doodler.com for only 99 bucks.

Asus Multi-Mode Pocket Router is the ultimate travel networking tool

asus-multi-mode-pocket-router

I’ve done a fair amount of traveling for business, occasionally with a colleague or two. When you’re on-location covering an event with a colleague, there comes a point when you may need to share information. Specifically things like pictures and video. So what’s the best way to do this? Well, you can transfer them to a flash drive (if they’ll all fit) and then hand it over, and then let them download them from there. But wouldn’t it be better if you could quickly and easily make a wireless network?

The Asus Multi-Mode Pocket Router is a quick and easy way to setup a wireless network on the go. There are a few different ways it can be used. If you have an ethernet cable, you can jack it in, and instantly connect laptops, tablets, and smartphones to a local network. You can also simply plug it into a wall, and connect it to the local WiFi network, and have it again create a local network. In both instances, you can not only share the internet wirelessly, but transfer files as well. You can also use it as an ethernet adapter for netbooks that don’t have one, and as a wireless adapter for a desktop that doesn’t have one.

If you do a lot of traveling, this could definitely come in handy. It only costs $35, which is about the cost of a decent USB wireless network card, and it can do so much more.

Fliike gives you an analog display for your Facebook fan count

smiirl-fliike

In this day and age, social media has a big impact on the world at large. One wrong Tweet can be disasterous for an individual, or company. The number of followers on your Twitter account, or likes on your Facebook page vastly increases the amount of reach a company or artist has. If you’re someone that lives and breathes by the number of likes on your page, then we’ve got something just for you.

Fliike is a simple counter that displays the number of likes or fans that your Facebook page has received. That’s right, you’ll be able to glance at your desk, counter, or any other location you decide to place it, and see just how popular you are. The face has an old-school flip-counter to display the magic number that you currently sit at, which gives a retro feel to something very modern like social media.

All you need to do to set it up is plug it into the wall, connect it to your WiFi network, and follow the instructions to connect it to your Facebook page. As you can imagine, this is definitely a luxury item, and comes with a luxury price tag: $390. What’s interesting is that they only chose to include 5 digits on the face. Maybe they’ll offer a new one that you can buy in the future, when you finally break 100k fans.

“I See You” wallpaper turns your wall into a wacky canvas

i-see-you-wallpaper

When you have young kids, especially more than one, your house can feel like a war zone. Turn your back for a second, and they’re darting off to another room, or accidentally breaking something. Or worse, they’re attacking your wall with a marker that you don’t remember giving them. So how do you ensure that they don’t ruin your new wallpaper with their markers? By putting up wallpaper that was meant to be doodled on.

If you want to give your kids a huge canvas for drawing, the “I See You” wallpaper is the perfect way to do it. This wallpaper has hundreds of pairs of eyes that stare out at you. While this might seem a tad creepy at first, once you start giving the eyes wacky bodies and features, they won’t seem so strange at all.

The wallpaper features a 9” x 6” repeating pattern, and comes in 27” x 15′ rolls. This paper isn’t cheap, as it will run you $155 per roll, and they do require a 2 roll minimum order. But just think of the years of artwork that this will give you to look at as your child grows up. I’d just recommend installing it in their bedroom, and not the living room.

Keyport Slide gets an upgrade with version 2.0

keyport-slide-2

A few years ago, we introduced you to the Keyport Slide. This was an interesting new take on the keychain. Rather than having a bunch of bulky keys in your pocket, this offered a way to cut down on the bulk, and put them all into one smaller package. What you were left with was a gadget about the size of a pack of Tic-Tacs that held up to 6 of your keys. Well, the Keyport is back, and better than ever.

I actually owned the original Keyport, and while it was nice, there were areas where I felt it could improve. One was the metal housing. It actually felt a bit flimsy, and I always worried that one of these days I would break the whole thing while unlocking my stubborn front door. (I actually ended up losing it before that ever happened, naturally.) It also didn’t have a good ay to keep a fob, or other bulky keys attached to it, which was a bother.

The new Keyport 2.0 has addressed both of these concerns. The body is now constructed from Ultem, which is a resin that’s much stronger than the metal used before. They claim that it’ll survive getting ran over by a car, without any issues. It also has a spinner cap on the end, which makes it easier to attach things like car fob, or other things that you might have carried on an ordinary keychain before. You’ll be able to get one for yourself for just $40. Currently there is a waiting list for pre-orders, which you can get on here.

Roll ‘n Go Car Seat Transporter pulls double duty as a stroller

brica-roll-n-go-car-seat-transporter

Traveling with kids can be a lot of work, as you tend to have to bring a lot with you. It’s not so bad when you’re driving your own car for the whole trip, but what if you’re taking a plane to see grandma? Well, she might not have a stroller, or a car seat, both of which are necessary when you have a young one. So how do you lug around all of these things in the airport? Well, imagine that your car seat acted like a stroller. That would make things much easier, right?

With the Brica Roll ‘n Go Car Seat Transporter, your child’s car seat can pull double-duty by essentially transforming into a stroller. Sure, it’s not quite the same, but it’s also not really intended to replace the stroller all of the time. This is more a way to use your car seat for something useful, rather than trying to carry it around the airport. The device is basically a two-wheel cart that you set the car seat on. Strap it in, pull up the handle, and you’re good to go.

What’s really nice is that the transporter folds down to just 2 and a half inches thick, and weighs only 5 pounds. This makes it easy to stow away if you’re boarding an airplane, and it doesn’t take up much space when storing it at home. If you frequently travel with a toddler, then this $75 investment might be a good one.

Star Trek Captain’s Chair Dog Bed will turn your K-9 friend into Captain Kirk

Star-Trek-Captains-Dog-Bed

Sci-Fi lovers can get pretty obsessed with the shows that they follow. I can attest to this, being a rather large Star Wars lover, myself. The great thing is that in this day and age, companies seem to make just about anything you ever wanted, related to your fandom of choice. And sometimes things you never imagined wanting, in the first place.

If you’re a lover of the original Star Trek series, and you have a dog, this Captain’s Chair Dog Bed might just be of interest to you. Perhaps you’re someone that absolutely has to have everything Star Trek. Or maybe your doghouse has been designed to look just like the bridge of the USS Enterprise, and you need a place for your pooch to sit and lead the rest of the crew. Either way, this dog bed will suit your needs.

The bed measures 32” x 27” and is made from faux suede. While it might not be the perfect recreation, it does bear a striking resemblance to the seat that Kirk sat in on the original series. You can pre-order yours now for $80, though it won’t ship until November.

Lying Down Laptop Stand lets you surf while you recline

Lying-down-laptop-stand

There are a lot of ways to work on a computer, especially if you have a laptop. You can set it on a traditional desk, and sit in front of it. You can curl up on the floor or a couch, and have it sitting in your lap, or you can even use one of those standing desks, to make sure that you’re not being too lazy. But what if you want to be extremely lazy, and use your laptop while laying down? You’re going to need a very special stand for that.

The Laying Down Laptop Stand does exactly what you would think. It allows you to use your computer while laying down flat on your bed. You’ll just need to strap your notebook to the stand, and then rotate it to the proper angle. Now, just climb underneath it, and get comfortable while you surf the net. Now, I’m not quite sure just how comfortable you can be, with your hands raised up above you. I guess it might be alright if you had a mouse to use on the bed, and you’re not doing much typing, or perhaps watching YouTube videos or Netflix. Regardless of what you’re wanting to do, this $95 stand will help you do it.
