See Baby From Anywhere

Hey parents, what was it like the first night you had your child(ren) home and you turned on the baby monitor? Did you jump at the first sound? Let me guess – constantly peeking in to check on baby? I’m assuming it was nerve wracking. For current parents of young ones you could probably use any device that may help instill more confidence in what may be happening in baby’s room – whether 10 feet away or across the country.

BabyPing provides the perfect baby monitor solution to give you peace of mind thanks to technology. It consists of a square monitor, less than 3.5” x 3.5”. On the monitor are a video camera, microphone and infrared LEDs to light up the room. Don’t worry, LEDs won’t be too bright for baby to sleep and they adjust to exterior lighting. Mount the monitor where you get the best view of baby and where you can plug the monitor in. Included with the monitor are a mount and things to make setup easy. Once you have the monitor in place, connect it to your router via cable or wi-fi. Then download the BabyPing or BabyPing+ app to your Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch (iOS 4 or greater). The app will find the BabyPing monitor on your network and connect you. Voila! Baby is on your i device. With BabyPing app you can watch from anywhere within the network. And you can even restrict access. For those that travel away from home definitely download BabyPing+ which enables remote viewing too. And yes, password protection and encryption are involved so not just anyone can see baby.

This seems like such a natural evolution of technology. Our busy lives mean home time is far from peaceful, work often takes us away from town and relatives may not live nearby. BabyPing provides a great solution to help with busyness. Rest assured while at home that baby is safe and sound – while not having to barge into the room every 5 minutes. If you are back to work after maternity leave or on business travel log in anytime to see the little bambino. Or if relatives live far away give them access to see the bundle of joy. And to top that off, BabyPing is offering a sale at the moment too! Shipping from UK, BabyPing is available for £132 (normally £165). And if shipping from the US, pick up the unit for $199 (normally $249). I find  very few reasons why parents – or those with parents on their shopping list – wouldn’t want to have or give this peace of mind.

Snooze: A Minimal Alarm Clock

Phones have become the defacto alarm clocks on many nightstands. If you use an iPhone do you ever wake up in the night and fumble around to touch the button and make the screen come on, only to find out it is not time to get up? And then you struggle to fall asleep. Or maybe you try to hit the itty bitty snooze button on the screen. Sure would have been nice to wake up and immediately see the phone/clock.

Distilunion came up with a perfect nighttime home for your iPhone (4, 4S, 5) with their Snooze product. This maple constructed unit holds your iPhone in landscape mode. Download the free Snooze Alarm App prior to your first use then slide your phone in and it will turn into a full functioning alarm clock. Wake up in the middle of the night and easily check the time. And if you need a few more zzzzz’s in the morning, just whack the rubberized top of the Snooze which serves as a snooze bar. Use your own charger if you want. Or add on their Weave charger – pre-laced into the Snooze. The non-stick bottom means it will grip the nightstand and not scratch. The Snooze has removable inserts so you can leave your phone in its case.

Snooze recently reached their funding goal on Kickstarter in July. So units are being produced. When available the Snooze will run $39.99 or $49.99 with the Weave charger. Ship date still has yet to be announced, but if interested sign up on Distilunion’s website.

Call it a Smart Bag

Anytime I say “cool” while finding new gadgets I know it is a good one. So before you say “not another bag story” – stop. You will want to read this one. The ongoing quest for people on the move is charging devices. Plenty of  bags exist out there with ample storage. And plenty of chargeable bags exist. But the creators of Phorce really put it all together and appear to be on their way to Kickstarter funding.

Phorce combines technology and practical design to come up with a functional piece you won’t want to live without. On the technology side, watch out. Phorce offers charging for 3 USB devices simultaneously. How much power? The integrated lightweight battery pack can give you 8 iPhone (4, 4S, 5) or 6 Galaxy (SIII) charges. That is also enough to provide a full charge for a new iPad. For the real Mac gurus the Phorce for Mac version can charge a variety of Mac Books – Air, Pro and Pro Retina – in 7 hours or less. If they reach certain funding goals Phorce has said they will even increase the battery capacity too. And if that is not enough the bag contains Bluetooth so it can talk to you via an app on your phone. You can always monitor how much charge (or charging time based on device) you have remaining. And don’t leave without it! If your phone gets too far from your bag it will message you as a reminder.

The bags are made of Phorce’s own fabric for maximum water resistance, which is combined with zips and padding equal to the task so electronics are safe. The liners keep devices clean while also making them easy to slip in and out. An expansion zipper means you can increase your space around the entire unit. And their strap system enables users to easily convert from messenger to backpack to briefcase.

For $199 backing, you can get set up with a Phorce, or for $279 get in on a Phorce for Mac. Check their Kickstarter link for details. Assuming funding is raised they anticipate shipping in March.

Mobility + Office Convenience

Mobility rocks, usually. Sometimes our mobility clashes with the conveniences we have become used to in an office environment. Have you ever tried popping a cell phone on speaker and getting colleagues to crowd around? Far from professional eh? And the sound quality – on both ends – leaves something to be desired. More and more businesses and individuals rely on mobile technology to communicate. Yet be realistic, cell phones are not meant to be speaker phones or true video conferencing options.

invoxia – makers of telecom products meant to simplify life – want to bridge the gap between office convenience and mobility. The AudiOffice, $299 at invoxia.com, does just that, while offering comfort, high quality sound and practical functionality. This dock offers iOS compatible voice and video calling features. Connect your iOS device directly or via Bluetooth and receive or make calls with FaceTime, Skype, Viber or other mobile communication programs. Talk through the handset or the 4-speaker equipped speakerphone mode, where invoxia uses their In Vivo Acoustic technology and to effectively overcome the typical limitations directive speakers. You hear the call through the entire space. Likewise, 2 microphones enable those on the other end to accurately hear the conversation. And when the workday is done – or the calls stop coming in – connect your device and play your tunes through the same quality acoustics. AudiOffice is compatible with iPod Touch gen 4, iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S and now 5 plue new iPad and iPad 2. Touch gen 3 and iPad can be used for music. Shipping is available in US, Europe and the UK. So whether you are a small office that is totally mobile in communication, or you need a good office/home office solution for effectively making and taking mobile calls invoxia AudiOffice offers a stylish and functional solution.

CM4 Q Card Case for iPhone 5 starts to ship

At long last – well, it is not that long actually, considering how the iPhone 5 has not exactly been out for that long on the markets, but at the very least, we do know that the CM4 Q Card Case has begun to ship. After all, don’t you love your iPhone 5 to bits and pieces, and hope that this smartphone will be able to get through an entire year without any nicks or scratches? Well, the CM4 Q Card Case intends to fill this big pair of protective shoes for the iPhone 5, where it is touted to deliver device protection in a smart design, boasting a built-in wallet sleeve as well which is capable of holding up to three different cards as well as cash.

This particularly updated version of the Q Card Case is proud to be the thinnest of the lot to date, and yet it will still sport CM4’s classic Black Onyx and Pacific Green, in addition to a couple of new colors – and we are talking about Red Rouge and Mahogany Brown. The iPhone 5 version has also undergone a special session of craftsmanship, where this means it is now able to play nice with the spanking new Lightning dock adapter, enabling users to also continue using their 30 pin accessories. I guess you can more or less say that the Q Card Case is an ideal solution for folks who tend to travel a whole lot, in addition to others who prefer to travel light by wanting to look slim even with something in their pockets or purses.

It does not matter if you are attempting to navigate through airport security, meet up with new business prospects, or simply to go shopping with the rest of the family, the CM4’s extremely convenient Q Card Case will definitely do its bit to reduce the insane amount of clutter that we have managed to accumulate in our pockets and purses over time. Made out of soft-touch rubber as well as a premium fabric wallet sleeve which fits an ID, credit or debit card, and some cash, you end up with a lightweight and yet secure fit around the iPhone 5. There is also a protective front bezel thrown into the mix with lay-flat Screen Guard design, delivering an added layer defense for the iPhone screen.

The Q Card Case will retail for $39.99 a pop with a one-year premium warranty.

HTC Droid DNA headed for Verizon Wireless

Verizon Wireless just announced that they will be offering the HTC Droid DNA, which is touted to be the highest resolution Android-powered smartphone to date. What is that you said about the iPhone’s vaunted Retina Display? It is no match for the HTC Droid DNA that sports a higher pixel density, and also a far larger display at 5” with Full HD resolution support. Needless to say, the HTC Droid DNA is the flagship device of HTC, and it looks set to make its mark this holiday season among smartphone buyers.

HTC used to be on the cutting edge of smartphone offerings with their Desire range, but time has seen them lose out on other more competitive companies, with Samsung leading the pack where top of the line Android-powered devices are concerned. Well, the HTC Droid DNA will certainly drag the Taiwanese company back into contention, and hopefully it will be able to win back confidence among smartphone users who are looking to upgrade their devices later this year.

Verizon Wireless Chief Marketing Officer Tami Erwin said, “We think it’s poised to be a real blockbuster for the holidays and certainly into 2013.” Just how much will Verizon Wireless price the HTC Droid DNA? Well, it looks priced to move at $199 a pop, where you will need to sign up for a two-year contract of course. The HTC Droid DNA will go up on sale this coming November 21st, which is one day before Thanksgiving, marking the unofficial start of the shopping season.

As a refresher, the device itself will come with a generous 5” display as well as boast high-resolution image quality for photographs and video. Boasting a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch, it outdoes Apple’s iPhone 5 by far and large (which has a pixel density of 326ppi) and the Samsung Galaxy S3 at 306ppi.

Homeless Dude Arrested for Charging His Phone in a Park

When Darren Kersey plugged his mobile phone charger into the power supply of a picnic shelter in Gillespie Park, Sarasota, all he wanted was a little boost of his battery level. He certainly didn’t bank on getting arrested and spending the night in a cell. More »

DoubleUp™ When You Charge

Hey Apple users: quick, how many chargers are currently plugged in around the house? Between docking stations and cables it seems most rooms in the house have a way to charge idevices. But that is the problem – they are in different rooms! All those chargers and yet we STILL find ourselves saying ‘my pad is at 2% and my phone isn’t done charging’. Why should we have to change rooms or choose which device should charge?

Kanex® – makers of i-connectivity accessories – thinks that we should not have to choose which device to charge. Their high powered DoubleUp gadget provides dual charging. But the big difference between it and others dual chargers out there? A full 2.1 amps per port with 21W. To the non-engineers out there (like me) that means you can charge two iPads at once – even the newer generation ‘power demanding’ iPads. Basically, DoubleUp provides more power than two individual chargers. The green indicator will let you know when you are full of juice.  Seems pretty practical, especially for just $39.99 on Kanex website or Amazon. The CES folks think good things too and nominated DoubleUp as an innovations honoree in the portable power category of the 2013 Design and Engineering awards. So end the ‘room shuffle’ or tough decision about what to charge. Charge them both at the same time.

HTC Droid DNA – highest resolution Android smartphone yet

Forget about Apple’s iPhone 5 with its Retina Display, the best iPhone yet has already been dethroned in terms of its pixel density (other aspects of the iPhone 5 have long been surpassed by other devices such as screen size, NFC capability, the works) thanks to efforts of the HTC Droid DNA which is made available on Verizon Wireless. Touted to be the ultimate smartphone with a full HD 1080p display, the HTC Droid DNA will be available as a Verizon Wireless exclusive, and will hit retail stores nationwide from November 21st onward.

Sporting a true 1080p HD Super LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, we are talking about a stunning 440 pixels per inch (PPI) on a 5-inch display – definitely unprecedented for a smartphone, where you get maximum pixel clarity available on such a mobile device. Specially designed to accentuate the incredible display, the deep black, soft-touch back remains understated, while there is a metallic red camera bezel alongside a red microgrill pattern of the sidewalls.

Underneath the hood lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHz processor, HTC Sense 4+, Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice, 2GB RAM, LTE connectivity, and an 8-megapixel f/2.0 28mm wide-angle lens with 5-level automatic flash, backside illuminated sensor (BSI), and superfast autofocus. In front, there is a best-in-class 2.1-megapixel, f/2.0, 88-degree, ultra-wide angle, front-facing camera.

Not only that, the HTC Droid DNA also comes with a unique, 2.55-volt, built-in headset amplifier as well as dedicated amp for the external rear-speaker, which will help boost the audio signal to deliver crystal clear sound while your ears experience less distortion, never mind if you are listening to your favorite tunes at maximum, ear-splitting volume. The merging of amplified hardware and the rich, authentic, studio-quality sound of Beats Audio enables music to be heard the way the artist intended. Of course, if you were to play games or watch video too, it would sound enhanced.
