The folks over at LG Electronics have just introduced the spanking new LG G Pro 2, which will be sequel to the LG G Pro. In fact, the LG G Pro happened to pick up the gong of being the Best Smartphone of MWC 2013. We do wonder whether the LG G Pro 2 will win any awards at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, later this month. Just what will the LG G Pro 2 be able to deliver? For starters, the LG G Pro 2 will arrive with a stunning 5.9” Full HD IPS display alongside an extremely slim bezel of 3.3mm, delivering an industry-leading screen-to-frame ratio of 77.2%. Not only that, it will also feature a thicker, high-power 1W Hi-Fi sound that is touted to be 30% louder compared to its predecessor, offering clearer sound with more powerful bass. What makes the LG G Pro 2 most interesting is the manner in which the powering on and unlocking process works.

Basically, LG engineers have come up with this feature known as Knock Code that would make the unlocking process easier and a whole lot more convenient than ever before. Knock Code would enable owners to power on and unlock their G Pro 2 smartphones in a single and easy step, through the tapping of one’s screens using one of 86,367 “knock” combinations. The intelligent algorithm and advanced hardware combination is a potent one, where you can input the knock pattern on any area of the screen, even when the display is turned off, with anywhere from two to eight taps to choose from.

Other hardware specifications include a quad-core 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM, a choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box.

Nokia, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer who once looked as though they could not put a foot wrong in their utter dominance of the mobile phone world, has fallen to such depths that were previously unimaginable – until Microsoft came along to pick up the mobile segment of the company, where it has gained quite a respectable market share over the past couple of years with the Windows Phone platform. Nokia’s latest entry to the smartphone market comes in the form of the Nokia Lumia Icon, where it will be a Verizon Wireless exclusive in the United States.

This latest Lumia was specially constructed for those who want more from their handsets and yet do not want to compromise when it comes to just how the smartphone is used to capture all of the special moments in one’s daily life. The Full HD display, at 5” and 441ppi pixel density, is certainly a sight to behold, while the thin and light frame which is made out of aluminum and accompanied by ceramic keys are also easy on the hands and pleasing to the eye. The Nokia Lumia Icon would tip the scales at just 5.8 oz, where it measures 5.39” x 2.79” x 0.39”.

At the back, you will find a crystal-clear 20-megapixel camera that will draw its inspiration from Nokia’s award-winning PureView technology and Zeiss optics. If you are an avid fan of video recording, then you would not have any problem at all with the Nokia Lumia Icon, since it also boasts of four lossless microphones which are able to capture omnidirectional audio in full stereo, ensuring your viewers will think as though they are there in the scene.

Expect the Nokia Lumia Icon to go on sale this February 20th for $199.99 a pop with a two-year contract on Verizon.

There are certain iconic devices or offerings from some companies that do not need a new model in order to sell more units – as sometimes, a fresh coat of paint is all that it takes. For those of you who still feel that the Samsung Galaxy S4 (despite its age and many looking forward to the alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 which is said to be announced at an Unpacked event later this month) is still the bee’s knees, then you might be pleased to hear that there is a spanking new color for you to choose from – the Samsung Galaxy S4 black edition. That is not all, however, as a black edition of its smaller model, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, too, has been announced.

These two new color editions happen to be the latest in Samsung’s effort to build on its commitment to deliver innovative technologies with more premium design choices to the masses. Both of these models will arrive alongside a high-quality leather-like textured black back cover and bezel. This will definitely be a distinct and refined design which would be able to offer consumers a stylish Galaxy experience. Not only that, an external color change is not all that matters, as the Black Edition devices will also be accompanied by a suite of eight dedicated wallpapers for both the home and lock screens, not to mention a bunch of new and exclusive ringtones. Of course, the hardware specifications underneath the hood for both of these devices will remain similar to other colors of the same handset. I do wonder, however, whether we should ditch the “Black Edition” suffix, and call this the Batman Galaxy S4 and Batman Galaxy S4 mini after all.

I am quite sure that many of us have heard of the age old proverb, that “good things come to those who wait”. Those who happen to celebrate the Lunar New Year will know that red is an auspicious color, so you would see plenty of red clothes being worn, not to mention at some homes, red cloth that adorns the doorpost to usher in luck, prosperity and good fortune for the rest of the coming year. Having said that, I am quite sure that the red Nexus 5 that has finally arrived on Google Play has nothing to do with the Lunar New Year, but rather, the time is just ripe for it to happen. The first red Nexus 5 device is now available on Google Play, and another milestone is achieved – this is the first Google phone that will arrive in a trio of different colors – and they are, red, white and black.

First launched in October last year in a partnership between LG and Google, the Nexus 5 has picked up its fair share of praise and bouquets, coming across as a stylish, high-performance Google phone. The Nexus 5 was (and still is) powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, where it is accompanied by a stunning 5-inch Full HD IPS display with Android 4.4, KitKat, the latest version of the Android OS, as the mobile operating system of choice..
