Mophie Juice Pack Helium delivers extra power without the weight

mophie-juice-pack-heliumThe modern day road warrior tends to carry a fair number of gadgets around, and that would also translate to having remember the various battery levels on each device. The safest way to handle such a situation is to charge all of the batteries within each evening before you retire for the night, but it might be difficult to do so especially when one is extremely tired after a particularly difficult day at work. Why not settle for a device that might help lighten such a burden on the road warrior? The £69.99 Mophie Juice Pack Helium will be able to deliver an additional 80% of energy to your iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s without adding any unnecessary bulk, where it will feature white LED indicators that will allow you to check out its battery levels at a glance. Not only that, the protective case itself will ensure that your handset remains safe as well as charged.

Do bear in mind that this caters only to the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, so if you’re using any other kinds of smartphone, you’re out of luck here – best to set a reminder on your smartphone for the charging times then. The Mophie Juice Pack Helium is made out of rugged plastic that offers adequate protection without interfering with its antennae reception. Chances are with this, heavy users of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s will never have to run out of juice ever again while they are on the move.

LG G Pro 2 all set to rock with Knock Code

lg-g-pro-2The folks over at LG Electronics have just introduced the spanking new LG G Pro 2, which will be sequel to the LG G Pro. In fact, the LG G Pro happened to pick up the gong of being the Best Smartphone of MWC 2013. We do wonder whether the LG G Pro 2 will win any awards at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, later this month. Just what will the LG G Pro 2 be able to deliver? Let us find out right after the jump.

For starters, the LG G Pro 2 will arrive with a stunning 5.9” Full HD IPS display alongside an extremely slim bezel of 3.3mm, delivering an industry-leading screen-to-frame ratio of 77.2%. Not only that, it will also feature a thicker, high-power 1W Hi-Fi sound that is touted to be 30% louder compared to its predecessor, offering clearer sound with more powerful bass. What makes the LG G Pro 2 most interesting is the manner in which the powering on and unlocking process works.

Basically, LG engineers have come up with this feature known as Knock Code that would make the unlocking process easier and a whole lot more convenient than ever before. Knock Code would enable owners to power on and unlock their G Pro 2 smartphones in a single and easy step, through the tapping of one’s screens using one of 86,367 “knock” combinations. The intelligent algorithm and advanced hardware combination is a potent one, where you can input the knock pattern on any area of the screen, even when the display is turned off, with anywhere from two to eight taps to choose from.

Other hardware specifications include a quad-core 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB RAM, a choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, and Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box.

Fuel is the world’s smallest phone charger

fuelThe modern day road warrior has one particular device that he or she carries around all the time – the smartphone (or a regular feature phone in some cases). This is one scenario which cannot be avoided at all, and there are moments when you actually forget to juice up your handset, which could prove to be disastrous in certain situations. Well, this would mean one should be better prepared, and what better way to do so than with the £24.99 Fuel, a device that has been dubbed to be the smallest phone charger in the world?

Just how small is Fuel anyway? We are talking about being tiny enough that you do not even need to worry about taking up additional space in your luggage, since you can stuff it into your pants pocket without it bulging out at a mere 3.3cm x 2.3cm x 1.3cm. Of course, at that size, it will not be able to deliver hours of video viewing on your smartphone, but rather, it caters more for delivering enough juice to carry out a conversation to close that multi-million dollar deal. We are looking at maybe half an hour of much needed talk time, tops. The Fuel portable phone charger is made out of die-cast aluminum with miniature jerry-can features to make it resemble as though you are pouring real petrol into the handset’s “gas tank”.

Nokia Lumia Icon is their latest smartphone

nokia-lumia-iconNokia, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer who once looked as though they could not put a foot wrong in their utter dominance of the mobile phone world, has fallen to such depths that were previously unimaginable – until Microsoft came along to pick up the mobile segment of the company, where it has gained quite a respectable market share over the past couple of years with the Windows Phone platform. Of course, Windows Phone 8 is still far away from usurping iOS and Android as the mobile operating platforms of choice, but it is growing. Nokia’s latest entry to the smartphone market comes in the form of the Nokia Lumia Icon, where it will be a Verizon Wireless exclusive in the United States.

This latest Lumia was specially constructed for those who want more from their handsets and yet do not want to compromise when it comes to just how the smartphone is used to capture all of the special moments in one’s daily life. The Full HD display, at 5” and 441ppi pixel density, is certainly a sight to behold, while the thin and light frame which is made out of aluminum and accompanied by ceramic keys are also easy on the hands and pleasing to the eye. The Nokia Lumia Icon would tip the scales at just 5.8 oz, where it measures 5.39” x 2.79” x 0.39”.

At the back, you will find a crystal-clear 20-megapixel camera that will draw its inspiration from Nokia’s award-winning PureView technology and Zeiss optics. If you are an avid fan of video recording, then you would not have any problem at all with the Nokia Lumia Icon, since it also boasts of four lossless microphones which are able to capture omnidirectional audio in full stereo, ensuring your viewers will think as though they are there in the scene.

Expect the Nokia Lumia Icon to go on sale this February 20th for $199.99 a pop with a two-year contract on Verizon.

PhoneSoap UV Smartphone Sanitizer ensures that your handset remains clean at all times

smartphone-sanitizerRemember Jack Nicholson’s character from the movie “As Good As It Gets”? He certainly has some issues with cleanliness that borders on a mental illness which needs to be treated. Most folks are not like that, but some of the paranoid androids out there who feel that their smartphones should remain extremely clean all the time might want to check out the $49.99 PhoneSoap UV Smartphone Sanitizer. I know, you do not put your smartphone into your mouth, which makes a toothbrush UV sanitizer a far more justifiable purchase, but this does not mean that your ear does not deserve a clean smartphone placed beside it at the start of each day.

The PhoneSoap UV Smartphone Sanitizer will rely on short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation in order to sanitize your phone, where the entire process takes approximately 4 minutes to complete. There are also holes which makes sure you can hear your smartphone go off during the sanitization process, leaving you with the option to attend to that incoming call, text message, or email. Arriving in either black or white shades, the UV Smartphone Sanitizer would also double up as a charger while it cleans your handset with UV light. As long as your device falls within the 6” x 3.7” x 0.7” dimensions, it should be able to fit in just fine.

Samsung Black Edition Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini unveiled

galaxy-s4-blackThere are certain iconic devices or offerings from some companies that do not need a new model in order to sell more units – as sometimes, a fresh coat of paint is all that it takes. For those of you who still feel that the Samsung Galaxy S4 (despite its age and many looking forward to the alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 which is said to be announced at an Unpacked event later this month) is still the bee’s knees, then you might be pleased to hear that there is a spanking new color for you to choose from – the Samsung Galaxy S4 black edition. That is not all, however, as a black edition of its smaller model, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, too, has been announced.

These two new color editions happen to be the latest in Samsung’s effort to build on its commitment to deliver innovative technologies with more premium design choices to the masses. Both of these models will arrive alongside a high-quality leather-like textured black back cover and bezel. This will definitely be a distinct and refined design which would be able to offer consumers a stylish Galaxy experience. Not only that, an external color change is not all that matters, as the Black Edition devices will also be accompanied by a suite of eight dedicated wallpapers for both the home and lock screens, not to mention a bunch of new and exclusive ringtones. You will find that the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S4 mini Black Editions will arrive in sleek black packaging, where a set of black accessories including a power adapter, data cable and headphones are also thrown into the mix.

Of course, the hardware specifications underneath the hood for both of these devices will remain similar to other colors of the same handset. I do wonder, however, whether we should ditch the “Black Edition” suffix, and call this the Batman Galaxy S4 and Batman Galaxy S4 mini after all.

Red Nexus 5 arrives on Google Play at last

red-nexus-5I am quite sure that many of us have heard of the age old proverb, that “good things come to those who wait”. Those who happen to celebrate the Lunar New Year will know that red is an auspicious color, so you would see plenty of red clothes being worn, not to mention at some homes, red cloth that adorns the doorpost to usher in luck, prosperity and good fortune for the rest of the coming year. Having said that, I am quite sure that the red Nexus 5 that has finally arrived on Google Play has nothing to do with the Lunar New Year, but rather, the time is just ripe for it to happen. The first red Nexus 5 device is now available on Google Play, and another milestone is achieved – this is the first Google phone that will arrive in a trio of different colors – and they are, red, white and black.

First launched in October last year in a partnership between LG and Google, the Nexus 5 has picked up its fair share of praise and bouquets, coming across as a stylish, high-performance Google phone. The Nexus 5 was (and still is) powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, where it is accompanied by a stunning 5-inch Full HD IPS display with Android 4.4, KitKat, the latest version of the Android OS, as the mobile operating system of choice..

Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, shared, “The Nexus line has always been about doing things differently and consumers who share this philosophy have been our most loyal fans. We’re carrying this thinking over to the red Nexus 5, which we think will catch the eye of consumers who want to make an even bolder statement.”

If you are interested in picking up the red Nexus 5 for yourself, you can do so on Google Play from this month in the U.S.,Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan and Korea, while wider availability will happen across Europe before February is over.

Pebble Steel blends classic and modern in one beautiful smartwatch

Pebble-Steel-smartwatch-debut-8
You would think that there are enough smartwatches on the market now. There seems to be a new one cropping up every other day, touting that it is somehow better than the countless others that can also let you see alerts and mess with apps. While they are all an interesting idea, they don’t really blend in with a professional setting.

The Pebble Steel is hoping to change all that, as it takes on a more classic design that uses a plethora of expensive materials. There are two finishes available, including a brushed stainless steel and a black matte case. In addition, you will also be able to choose between a black matte metal bracelet or a leather strap. As this watch has its own appstore, you’ll be able to manage your apps, track your workouts, and change up the faces of your watch.

Of course, there’s also remotes for your camera, thermostat, or even your car that you can play with as well. It charges through a magnetic charging cable, and will last about 5-7 days on a single charge. Of course, you’ll get all the alerts from apps, but in this version there are LEDs to give you more indication that something is afoot. While it is waterproof at 5ATM, that merely means that it won’t be destroyed if you wash dishes or swim with it on. No deep sea diving I’m afraid. This will cost you cost you around $250 if you are interested in this sort of thing.
