Neogeo X Gold Coming for $199.99 – Is it a Console or Handheld? It’s Both!

I can remember years ago standing in the game store in the mall playing the demo NeoGeo machine and wanting one so bad I could hardly stand it. I remember that original NeoGeo arcade system console being insanely expensive for the time. If you always wanted your own NeoGeo, you’ll be able to get one in early December for a much more reasonable price than the original’s $650 price.

The Neogeo X Gold will launch worldwide on December 6 of this year at an MSRP of $199.99(USD). The X Gold bundle will include the Neogeo X Station, the X Joystick and the NeoGeo X Handheld. Exogear Exovolt Plus: Unlimited Stackable Power

It’s all about power when you’re on the go. Depending on your usage, it doesn’t take long for the battery of your tablet or smartphone to run out. It’s happened to everyone, stranded with no way to juice up your gear. The Exovolt Plus stackable batteries might help you out in these situations.

Exogear’s Exovolt Plus is different from most external batteries, because you can simply stack up modules to add more battery power. The main unit, which sells for $89.95(USD), has got a 5,200 mAh battery. You can add as many subunits as you want at $49.95 a pop. Each of these also has a 5,200 mAh capacity. The batteries have double circuit protection, overheating protection, and short-circuit protection so they won’t explode in your face.

I guess these batteries would be good for camping and outdoor trips. The batteries aren’t that big, about twice the size of an iPhone, so they should be pretty easy to carry around in your pack. Exogear hasn’t yet confirmed a release date for the Exovolt Plus, but they should be coming soon.

Nikon 1 J2 Interchangeable Lens Camera Debuts

Nikon has announced a new interchangeable lens digital mirrorless camera as a follow-up to last year’s popular, but less-than-perfect J1. The new Nikon 1 J2 camera is available in six colors and uses an all-metal body along with several updated features.

nikon 1 j2

The camera is capable of recording full HD video and has an image resolution of 8.3 megapixels – which is actually lower than the 10.1MP J1, so it’s not clear if the J2 is a replacement for the J1 or if it’s an additional model in the line. The camera has an ISO range of 100-3200 and can shoot with fixed focus at 60 FPS. The shutter promises to be very fast thanks to what Nikon claims to be the one of the fastest autofocus systems around. The camera has a three-inch rear LCD with a resolution of 921,000 dots.

The camera is fitted with the Nikon EXPEED 3 image processor and has a number of automatic and artistic modes. The camera can also shoot still photos while recording full HD video. Pricing and availability on the camera are unknown at this time.

OMG LED Case for iPhone Turns Notifications into a Disco Party

If you can’t wait for FLASHr to come to fruition, or if clear transparent cases just don’t do it for you, then check out OMG Cases for iPhone, that light up like a Christmas tree whenever you get a new push notification.

omg case iphone led light up

The OMG Cases come in a couple of different designs, but these cases don’t just rely on the LED flash to let you know about a new notification, nope, they light up thanks to LEDs at the bottom of the case and some kind of optical fibers embedded directly into it. The cases actually pulsate brightly whenever there’s activity on your phone.

I’m not sure if there’s an extra battery in the bottom part of this case or if it’s just for the LEDs to suck on your iPhone’s battery through the dock connector. Each case sells for $29.95 (USD) here.

Burner iOS App Provides Disposable Phone Numbers: Phoneception

If you watch The Wire or Breaking Bad, you’ve probably seen the characters use pre-paid cellphones to make their conversations, more, like, secretive. Yo. Anyway these phones are also called burners, hence the name of this new app.

burner iphone app

Burner lets iPhone users create temporary phone numbers that can be used to send and receive SMS or calls, just like “real” phone numbers. Users can create as many numbers as they want provided they have enough credits, which are bought in-app. Users can set expiry dates for the numbers or “burn” them whenever they want. It’s not as badass as cracking a phone in half and throwing it in the trash while sporting a mean and/or contemplative look though.

Burner is available on the iTunes App Store for $1.99 (USD). Yo. Kafkaesque. Bitch.

Drift App for iOS Lets You Get Lost in All Your Favorite Places

If you’ve lived where you’ve lived your entire life, then things could start to get boring. There are no new places left to explore anymore and you’ll feel like you’ve been everywhere and done everything there is to do in your hometown. If you feel this way, then you need Drift.

drift
All you need is an iOS device and this app, and you’re all set to “get lost” and immerse yourself in your familiar surroundings in a totally new way.

The app basically works like a scavenger hunt of sorts, as it directs you to go this way and that to find random objects, based on the descriptions it’s giving you. In other words, you’ll be drifting along with Drift to explore and really “see” places you’ve been looking at your whole life.

Go ahead and start exploring your own little world today. You can go get lost here.

STRUT LaunchPort Costs Twice as Much as Your iPad, Doesn’t Make It Twice as Good

I’ll admit that this thing doesn’t cost twice what my iPad cost, because I have the 64GB 4G version, but it’s still very expensive. The question is, is it worth it? This system is from a company that specialized in luxurious automotive accessories, but decided to create something for the mobile computing sector as well.

strut launch port inductive charging

The STRUT LaunchPort is basically a fancy docking stand for your iPad. There’s a matching case that will allow you to charge your iPad inductively, which means that there are no wires involved. It’s handcrafted from stainless steel, and triple-coated in chrome. The case comes in walnut burl, carbon fiber, leopard print or sparkle pink. While it does look pretty good, I’m not sure it’s worth the $1,250 (USD) sticker price. Does it make you feel any better to know the dock is $1,000 and the case is $250? Didn’t think so.

strut launch port inductive charging dismount

Nevertheless, it will go on sale later this month. I guess it’s something to consider if you’ve got money to burn. From the photos, the accompanying case looks quite heavy, especially if it’s made out of walnut. I wonder how heavy it will make your iPad.

GameKlip Combines PS3 Controller with Android Phones: Poor Man’s PlayStation Phone

Unlike the messy controller situation in iOS, Android users have the benefit of workarounds for using controllers with their mobile device. One such solution is the Sixaxis Controller app, which pairs PS3 controllers with compatible Android devices. If you’re using the app, you might want to get the GameKlip as well.

gameklip android ps3 dualshock mount

Made by Ryan French, the GameKlip is simply a plastic mount that lets you connect a PS3 controller with an Android smartphone. The result is a semi-permanent, poor man’s portable gaming device.

The idea of carrying a PS3 controller around might seem odd at first, but if you frequently game on your Android device you might fall in love with this combo:

Wow. Now I’m envious of Android users. Again, the GameKlip is only a piece of plastic; you need an app and some tweaking to make the PS3 controller work with your phone, if it’s even compatible with the app. Still, it’s better than nothing.

As for the GameKlip, you can order it from its official website for $15 (USD). There’s also a $23 variant that comes with cables in case your smartphone can’t pair wirelessly with PS3 controllers. The GameKlip only works with the latest Galaxy phones and a couple of HTC models. Check out the official website to see the full list.

Romo Romotive Robot: Remote Rontrolled Ry RiPhone

There’s an app for that. I’ve actually said that today, while I was teaching a class, and yep, there actually was an app for that. Las Vegas startup Romotive takes this to another level with their Romo robot, a robot designed to use your smartphone as its brain.

Romo uses all available hardware of your smartphone to help it accomplish multiple tasks, like wander around, dance to music, and stream video to a controller. Users can direct the little treaded robot across a Wi-Fi network. The gadget is being constantly improved by participants, and new behaviors can be downloaded through a custom app store.

The company supports developers through their Romotive SDK, allowing anyone to build and distribute new apps for Romo. Romo costs $149(USD) and comes with free software. It works with Android and iOS.
