The POP: Portable Power Station to Charge All Your Mobile Devices

With smartphones and tablets, mobile users always seem to be on the lookout for a spot for their next charge. I know that I’ve been in this situation: stuck in the middle of nowhere with no way of juicing up my phone. The POP aims to change this, thanks to its bucket-like format filled with buckets of power.

The POP, which stands for POrtable Power, is a high-capacity battery capable of recharging multiple mobile devices at the same time. It’s got a 26,000 mAh battery that can recharge an iPhone ten times. It can charge up to four iOS or microUSB devices simultaneously. Thanks to user feedback, they’ve just released a plug-in option called the POP Station which has no battery and is perfect for coffee shops and the kitchen.

The project was launched through the crowd-funding site Kickstarter and at the time of writing, it had already amassed $95,000 of a projected goal of $50,000 with 30 days of funding left. It will be made for sure. You’ll have to pledge $99 to get the AC-based POP Station and $129 for the POP Portable that has a battery. This is $20 off the $149 retail price.

Mophie Outride Protects Your iPhone During Action Photography

Whatever sports or activities you’re into, it’s often nice to be able share your exploits with others via video. For many people who are into auto sports, bicycling, motocross, or other activities where there’s a high chance of falling or crashing ruggedized cameras specifically for the task are the norm. Rather than spending money on something like a GoPro camera, mophie has announced a new iPhone case that will do the trick for you called the Outride.

mophie outride

The Outride is a polycarbonate case for the iPhone 4 and 4S that is ruggedized and waterproof. The case is durable enough to survive crashes and drops and water resistant enough to film water sports. The case has a 170° wide-angle lens designed specifically to capture action shots. The case also comes with an app that allows the editing and sharing videos taken using the iPhone and the case, though it’s not clear what advantages it offers over the iPhone’s built in camera app or iMovie.

Expected this September, the Outride case will sell in bundles priced at $129.95 up to $149.95 (USD). Presumably, the difference in bundles will be based on the type of mounts included.

EOps Noisezero Sports+ Earphones Won’t Let Go of Your Ears

I always hate it when earbuds pop out of my ears, especially when I’m on the bike or on a run. UK designer Michael Young has come up with earphone design that will probably stay put, no matter what you are doing. Oh, and the earbuds are made from recycled plastic bottles.

The EOps Noisezero Sports+ headphones have a Comply foam tip that expand in your ear so that it won’t pop out, as well as a flexible “SportsFin” earlock which holds them securely inside your ear. EOps partnered up with the Coca-Cola Company to produce these earphones, which include 20% recycled material from polyethylene terephthalate used in their plastic soda bottles.

They also include 9mm titanium drivers and foam tips that have some passive noise cancellation. There is a remote and microphone included, but the most interesting bit is how they pop in. The earphones will be available in red and black from EOps.

Wikipad is a Tablet for Games, not for Research

Last January Razer showed off its concept for a gaming tablet. As it turns out, there was another gaming tablet that was announced around that time. For some reason it’s called the Wikipad, and not, I don’t know, Gametab. But names aside, it does have potential.

wikipad gaming tablet

According to VentureBeat, the Wikipad is an Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) tablet. It will have a 10.1″ 1280 x 800 IPS display, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 T30 1.4GHz quad-core CPU and 1GB 1066Hz DDR2 RAM. Like most tablets it will come in different memory capacities, with the cheapest model having the standard 16GB of storage.

But perhaps the most unique feature of the Wikipad is its detachable controller, which looks like a stretched out Xbox 360 controller. It has two analog sticks, a d-pad, four face buttons and a pair of triggers and bumpers. Note that Razer didn’t mention if the Project Fiona tablet’s controller is detachable. The other hyped up feature of the Wikipad is its glasses-free 3D display, but the first model that will be launched will only have a 2D display.

Wikipad wasn’t able to meet the March release date, and the VentureBeat exclusive made no mention of a price, which could mean that those numbers have changed as well. It would be stupid to assume that Apple isn’t at least considering a gamer-oriented mobile device, but for now it seems like its competitors are trying to come up with such a device. Apple still has hundreds of thousands of trump cards – the wealth of games in the App Store – but who knows what will happen if someone nails the right mix of hardware, software and network capabilities?

TidyTilt Stand: The Smart Cover for iPhones

Have you ever wanted to mount your  iPhone on your fridge? Or shrink your Smart Cover to work with your iPhone? Now you can do both thanks to TidyTilt. The stand part of this accessory is interesting, but what I find the most novel are that the magnets of the cover are strong enough so that you can mount your iPhone onto any magnetically-responsive surface.

It’s a multi-purpose cover that doubles as a kickstand, earphone cord manager, and iPhone mount. It’s definitely an interesting accessory, though it will undoubtedly interfere with your favorite case.

Sumneeds Line Tail Earphone Winder: Kute Korean Kord Kontrol

I’ve seen a couple of these earphone jack accessories pop up over time, and this one is definitely for those of you who like their smartphone accessories cute, adding tiny animal tails to your phone.

Made in Korea, the Sumneeds Line Tail earphone jack accessory was made to protect your audio jack on your phone from getting damaged when you aren’t using your headphones. The tails also act as a simple cord-management device. Simply string your earphone cord through the end of the tail, and wind it up when not in use.

Line Tails come as whale, fox, and swan ends, and there’s an accompanying set of wallpapers you can load onto your phone to give it a face to go with the tail.

Microsoft Wedge Touch Mouse & Keyboard for On-the-go Computing

Microsoft has released details on two new products, the Wedge Touch Mouse and the Wedge Touch Keyboard, which look perfect for when you’re on the go and you get tired of using the touch-based keyboard on your tablet.

The Wedge peripherals use Bluetooth. The keyboard’s cover doubles as a multi-angle stand for your tablet, which is a smart idea. There is a joint at the center which allows you to adjust the angle. The cover also powers the keyboard down automatically, once it’s placed inside. There are some hotkeys along the top to launch some functions. The Wedge Touch Mouse offers four-way touch scrolling using Bluetrack technology, which means it will work on any surface.

While Microsoft doesn’t specifically state which devices the Wedge series will work with, they mention Windows, Mac OS X, and “basic functionality on ARM-based devices,” but I’m guessing that any Bluetooth tablet should work with the keyboard. The mouse will only work with a computer though. The keyboard will sell for $79.95(USD) and the mouse will sell for $69.95. They will be released soon.

Scosche RAILKase Protects iPhones from Impacts

Who hasn’t dropped their iPhone at least once? While I’m almost paranoid about keeping mine safe, I’ve dropped it on occasion, from modest heights, especially when I’m tired. Thankfully, Scosche’s new case will protect your iPhone from most everyday falls.

TonSchreins Turn iPad and iPod nano into Shrines

I’ve always thought that hardcore Apple fans were so serious about their dedication to the brand that it’s almost like a religion to them. So when I saw these shrines made for the iPad and iPod nano, I thought they were very appropriate.

tonschrein ipad 1

The ornate TonSchrein for iPad and iPod nano were created by Georg Dinkel, and they clearly elevate these gadgets to a level of fanaticism not seen before.

tonschrein ipad 2

The intricate details of the two shrines were made using polymer clay, and the iPad version houses a 2.1 sound system, while the iPod nano version is just a two-speaker mono setup.

tonschrein ipad 4

While the iPad version would work well as a mantle clock, the iPod nano version seems even more ridiculous to me, adding substantial heft to Apple’s diminutive music player, as it hides behind the doors of the shrine.

You can check out more photos of the TonSchreins over on Dinkel’s website.
