We’ve seen US-based wireless operators offer low-cost calling to Mexico before — and frankly, creations like Google Voice and Skype have made it cheaper than ever to make a cross-border voice call — but it’s not everyday that you see an MVNO launch a dedicated calling plan to MX. That said, Boost Mobile is today introducing a $15 per month add-on that allows its users to phone up every single landline and mobile number in the country immediately south of America, assuming that it’s added on to a monthly unlimited plan.

Curiously, the offer is only designed to stand through June 6th, and the company isn’t mentioning what that sum will rise to after said date. For those who indulge, that $15 also includes limitless calling to landlines in over 45 nations (including Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Argentina and Colombia), unlimited calling to Canada, unlimited international text messaging worldwide from the United States and reduced calling rates to over 200 other destinations. Of course, this is assuming you still communicate via voice, which may or may not be true at this stage.

Nokia courted fashionistas back at Mobile World Congress with the Lumia 720, and it’s ready to embrace them more fully now that the slim Windows Phone is rolling out to its first countries. We’ve already seen it launch in Australia and the UK, where it’s available for free when subscribing to relatively frugal postpaid plans of either $29 AUD (on Virgin Mobile Australia) or £22 (on O2 UK); Brits can also spend £300 at O2 to use the phone on a pay-as-you-go basis. Other countries will get their units in short order, including Italy next week (for €349 off-contract) and Russia. As a reminder, it’s not coming to the US in an official capacity: while the mid-tier device made a visit to the FCC, the absence of LTE largely precludes American carrier deals. Some of us will have to gaze on the Lumia 720 from afar as a result, but many of those craving the most stylish of Nokia smartphones can get some satisfaction very shortly.

Last month, Sprint served up a dose of Jelly Bean for its variant of LG’s Optimus G, and today it appears that AT&T is following suit. We’ve received a flurry of tips and screenshots like the one above denoting that Ma Bell is slowly starting to trickle out Android 4.1.2 to its Optimus G owners. Seeking confirmation, we’ve reached out to AT&T and will provide an update of our own once we receive official word on the matter. Until then, if you’re rocking an Optimus G on Big Blue’s network, now might be the time to manually check your device for new software.

Update: It’s official — the Jelly Bean rollout has begun on Big Blue’s network. Along with the usual upgrades associated with the OS, AT&T’s over-the-air patch enables Isis mobile payments for those who happen to live in Austin or Salt Lake City.

After several months as a watered down messaging app, Viber for Windows Phone 8 is finally catching up to its Android and iOS counterparts. Starting today, the redesigned VoIP application now supports free calls with HD audio, lock screen notifications and the ability to pin conversations to your Start screen. This Metro modern UI version of Viber also includes photo sharing and group conversations with up to 40 participants. HTC’s One may take the world by storm if it ever gets around to selling it, but meanwhile the company has to pay the bills. It’s been doing that very well lately with more budget-oriented models that it sells mostly in Asia, and it looks to continue in that vein with the Taiwan-bound Desire P. It’s a 4.3-inch WVGA device with unspecified Android and Sense versions, dual 1Ghz CPUs, 768MB RAM, 4GB storage, a microSD expansion slot, Beats audio and an 8-megapixel rear camera. It’ll be up for grabs in “pretty” red or “sparkling” white exclusively at Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom for a rather steep sounding $360 or so — whether the market will bear that considering the glut of similar phones remains to be seen.
