It appears there will be plenty of options for professionals interested in WQHD monitors this fall, and ASUS has added one more to the pile on the eve of IFA 2012 with its PB278Q. An LED-backlit IPS 27-inch widescreen display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, it has HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, Dual-link DVI and built-in speakers. Similar to the VA278Q that was introduced at CES 2012, it will add pro-focused adjustments for more accurate color, plus ASUS QuickFit Virtual Scale and Splendid Video Intelligence tech when it ships in early September. There’s no word on the price tag, but if you’re interested in something with more pixels than your current 1080p setup, there’s a video from ASUS Republic of Gamers Australia embedded after the break.

Dell U2713HM AH-IPS monitor breaks cover

Dell has been due for a refresh of its flagship 27-inch UltraSharp monitor, and it looks like an updated model has finally made an appearance on the company’s Japanese website. The U2713HM features the same 2560×1440 resolution as the U2711, but Dell has opted to use the newer AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance IPS) technology. The benefits of AH-IPS include improved color accuracy as well as more efficient light transmission, ultimately leading to a more power efficient display.

In fact, the display is supposedly 37% more efficient than the U2711, drawing 42W under load. All the other benefits of IPS are along for the ride as well, including wide 178 degree viewing angles, and Dell continues to include its various color profiles to get the best out of the monitor. The height adjustable stand allows for small tilts forwards and backwards, and you can swivel the monitor 90 degrees to get as much vertical real estate as possible.

Connections for the monitor include HDMI, DVI-D, DisplayPort, VGA, and four USB 3.0 ports. Contrast ratio is estimated at 1000:1, the response time is 8ms, and brightness is rated at 350cd/m².

Dell say the U2713HM is shipping in Japan starting today, but there’s no word on when it will be making an appearance in other territories. It’s not cheap either, with the monitor commanding a price of ¥49,980 ($639), but at least you’ll be getting one of the only displays in the world with an AH-IPS panel.

UPDATE: Dell has started selling the U2713HM on its Australian website too, although it’s a tad more expensive at AUD $799 (~$843). Head over here to pick one up.

Dell U2713HM high performance IPS panel announced

Dell, once the world’s biggest computer manufacturer, has not just sat back and done nothing in the years past. They have come up with their fair share of servers, desktops, notebooks, Ultrabooks, and even flirted with the smartphone industry for a while. Well, here is a peripheral from Dell that you might want to consider if accurate colors and great looking visuals are your cup of tea. The Dell U2713HM which is actually a backlit LED that sports 27-inches of viewing goodness on an AH-IPS display. It is the first Advanced High Performance IPS panel from Dell, where it would translate to a viewing angle of up to 178 degrees, clearly upping the ante where IPS displays are concerned. (more…)

Dell debuts new 27inch U2713HM monitor, its first AHIPS panel

What’s this? Appearing on its Japanese blog, ahead of any English language announcement, Dell’s new monitor pairs a backlit LED with a 27-inch AH-IPS display. The U2713HM marks the company’s first Advanced High Performance IPS panel, which cranks viewing angles up to 178 degrees and adds Dell’s name to a pretty exclusive list of manufacturers. The screen can output up to 2,560 x 1,440 (WQHD) resolution, with Dell promising a 37 percent reduction in energy consumption compared to the preceding U2711. If you’ve got HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA or DVI-D, you’ll likely be well-prepared for the monitor, which also has a four-port USB 3.0 hub embedded. However, that high-quality panel corresponds with a suitably high price tag; on the other side of the Pacific, the U2713HM has been marked up at 50,000 yen and is available starting today.

Update: Dell has now announced pricing for the US. This UltraSharp slab will set you back just shy of 800 bucks. Visit the source to get your order in.

Nixeus shows off 27inch 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor $430

Greenhorn Nixeus, perhaps better known for media streamers, has jumped headfirst into the display market with the 27-inch IPS Vue model boasting a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel WQHD resolution and priced at $430 — around half what you’ll pay for similar panels. The new model, which the company says will be released on August 21st, seems to be nicely specced with an LG S-IPS panel, true 8-bit color, 6ms refresh, DVI / DisplayPort / HDMI 1.4 connection options and full-portrait tilting. If you’ve been coveting more screen space and pixels, but don’t want to be reduced to bread and water, it’ll go up for pre-order soon.

ViewSonic announces a duo of budget-friendly LED monitors

ViewSonic announces a duo of budget-friendly LED monitors

As gorgeous as huge, expensive monitors are, most situations just don’t call for the inches or wallet-dents associated with today’s luxury screens. With this in mind, and barely a breath after outing its $299, 27-inch LED offering, ViewSonic is back with two budget displays from the VA12 series. First up is the VA2212m-LED, which rocks a 1080p widescreen, 21.5-inch panel, 10,000,000:1 contrast Ratio, DVI and VGA inputs, as well as a pair of 2W integrated speakers. Its little brother the VA1912m-LED shares most of the same genes, but with an 18.5-inch, 1,366 x 768 resolution screen. Running with ViewSonic’s eco-friendly theme, both mercury-free LED monitors also boast the eco-mode feature for low power consumption and a longer life. If either of the new displays are grabbing your attention, you’ll be able to pick up the $149 VA2212m-LED imminently, with the $125 VA1912m-LED hitting North American retailers in mid-August.

ASUS breaks through 120Hz refresh rate with VG278HE gamer monitor… refresh

ASUS breaks through 120Hz refresh rate with VG2788H gamer monitor refresh

ASUS continues to update its VG monitor series, and this time it’s got something a little more impressive than an integrated IR transmitter. According to FlatpanelsHD, the VG278HE has knocked through the 120Hz barrier that most monitors come up against. The 27-incher can be configured to a buttery smooth 144Hz for 2D and 3D gaming, while inputs include HDMI, dual-link DVI and VGA. The monitor also supports NVIDIA’s 3D Vision 2 — but you’ll have to buy the rest of the parts separately. We’ve reached out to ASUS about pricing and availability, but until we hear more, you’ll just have to imagine those breezy refresh rates. Update: ASUS told us we can expect to see the display hit shelves sometime in Q4, but noted that pricing has not been finalized.

LG has new IPS monitors for the masses

LG intends to maintain their edge over the rest of the competition by introducing new IPS monitors that are known as the IPS7 series, where these will come in 23″ and 27″ sizes. Apart from the display size, everything else underneath the hood remains the same, so it is just a matter of budget and need when balanced together. What does LG offer with the new IPS7 series? For starters, tehy will boast LG’s very own Cinema Screen Design that allows it to come with an impressively thin 1.2mm bezel, which will practically do away with any visual distraction while enabling one to enjoy greater viewing immersion thanks to its 178-degree viewing angle.

Not only that, other hardware specifications include 250 nits of brightness, a response time of 5ms, 1080p resolution, and a 16:9 aspect ratio which are sure to keep any movie buffs happy and smiling. As for the overall depth, it has been reduced to a mere 14.1mm. Forget about those cheap looking plastic buttons that you see in other consumer electronics devices – LG decided to take the high road by replacing those with capacitive touch controls for a sleeker look.

No idea on pricing though, but it will arrive in Asia first before making its way to the rest of the world. [Press Release]

LG outs IPS7 Series monitors 23 or 27inch IPS, minimal bezel, MHL mobile link, 8bit 1080P

LG has announced a new series of IPS monitors, the 23- and 27-inch IPS7 series, with a mishmash of specs aimed at mobile, HD and professional users. Foregoing WQHD resolution in favor of plain jane 1920 x 1080, the panels feature a so-called Cinema Screen design with a 1.2mm (.025-inch) bezel, half-inch depth, a mobile high-definition (MHL) link, fast response times and color calibration software for professionals. If it’s trying to to tap the pro market, the monitors lack some features like dual-link 2560 x 1440 resolution and 10-bit, 1.07 billion color graphics like the Dell U2711 or HP ZR2740w, for instance — but then they could turn out to be considerably cheaper than those rivals. We’ll just have to wait to find out the pricing.
