Monopoly: Street Fighter Collector’s Edition now available on Amazon

While Street Fighter is a game you usually play on the console while beating your friends senseless, you might recall that back in February, Monopoly: Street Fighter Collector’s Edition was announced and gamers were given a chance to vote on the tokens that they’d most like to see in the game. Well if a board game version of Street Fighter is something you wouldn’t mind playing, especially since it adds a very different take on an arcade fighting game, the board game is now available and gamers will be able to pick up a copy for themselves at Amazon for $36.75.

The 6 tokens chosen by players includes Vega’s mask, the Hadouken, Chun-Li’s wrist cuff, M. Bison, Ryu and Blanka. Instead of trading normal property like in Monopoly, the Street Fighter edition will let players trade fighting arenas and will have Training Rooms and Dojos replace the Houses and Hotels. Sounds quite novel and an interesting take on a very classic game that was played back when computers weren’t as readily accessible or commonplace. So, any takers?

Klingon Monopoly: It’s a Good Day to Roll the Dice

Apparently Trekkies love Monopoly so much that USAopoly has released not one, but two Star Trek-themed Monopoly sets. Unlike the first one, this particular set will let you play with your Klingon friends. Yeah, I know, I’ve yet to find evidence that this “friend” creature exists either.

As you might have guessed, the most unique thing about this set is that all of the English instructions also have Klingon translations. Aside from that, almost all the other names and aspects of the game have also been Klingonized. Instead of money, players use “Klingon Forces” as currency. The standard tokens have been replaced with the captain’s chair, klingon gavel, disruptor, bat’leth, K’k tahg and a bird of prey. The set also includes a small replica of the Klingon Chancellor’s Cane.

Sadly, all of this fan service only makes this set’s weak point more apparent. Look at the board in the gallery below and you’ll see that the four corners are still from the standard edition, albeit with Klingon translations. Kinda jarring once you notice them.

Final Fantasy III Monopoly: Go and Collect 200 Gil

I was happy enough to see Final Fantasy III getting some love with the dialog box magnets, but it seems I haven’t been looking hard enough. Here’s an even more impressive homage, a cross stitched Final Fantasy III Monopoly board, complete with game tokens.

The board was made by Sprite Stitch forum member jadely for the forum’s Big Swap, where members exchange handmade gifts with each other. I wonder if they accept stick figures drawn on tissue paper. That’s my specialty. The board also comes with community cards and deeds, although they’re printed on paper and not cross stitched. Also of note is that the characters are also the properties. I’m not sure any of them would like the idea of being sold and owned. I’d buy Interceptor in a heartbeat though.

Monopoly: World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition: Go and Collect 200 Copper

USAopoly continues to mash up the popular board game Monopoly with other famous brands, creating two-headed cash cows of fan service, like this World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition. I wouldn’t be surprised if they came up with Monopoly x Tekken x Street Fighter. Or Monopoly x Taken.

As you might expect, all the things that can be WoWified have been WoWified. You can own Ogrimmar and Stormwind, get money from goblins and use familiar objects – the Corehound Pup, Murky, Doomhammer, Hearthstone, Mechagnome and Flight Path Boot – as tokens. The only disappointment here is that it still uses paper money. It would’ve been more awesome if it had copper, silver and gold coins instead.
