Wearable Mosquito Nets Look Silly, But They’ll Keep the Bugs Away

Did you know that mosquitoes inject an anesthetic into your skin, so you won’t feel a thing when they finally take that bite? When that wears off, the itching and wave upon wave of annoyance begins. That aside, mosquitoes are carriers of a multitude of diseases, too.

If you’re not a huge fan of bug sprays and insect repellent lotions, then you might consider wearing a mosquito net instead.

It may look silly, but this might just be the answer to your insect and bug bite woes. You can wear this mosquito net over your clothes, and it’s extremely breathable, so you don’t have to worry about feeling all stuffy during the summer. The 1.2-mm netting looks fine, but rest assured they’ll still allow the breeze to pass through while block off mosquitoes, insects, and other bugs. If you’re wearing shorts, you also might want to invest in a pair of mosquito net pants to round out your outfit.

The Wearable Mosquito Net goes for $34.95(USD) while the Mosquito net Pants sell for $29.95 over at Hammacher Schlemmer for $29.95(USD).

Maveric Drone To Combat Mosquitoes In Florida

I am quite sure that you have seen some of those “First World Problems” memes online, but on a more serious note, there are still areas in the undeveloped part of the world where mosquitoes have proven to be quite the bane, and will still carry diseases such as malaria that continue to kill every single year, regardless of your age or gender. The state of Florida is not exempt from mosquitoes either, considering that this state has plenty of marshy wetlands that are proven mosquito breeding grounds, and they intend to take the fight to them by involving aerial drones this time around.

The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District intends to make use of a Maveric drone that is constructed by Condor Aerial which packs a shortwave infrared camera that will allow it to identify the various pools where larvae could be breeding, and after identification, the mop up crew will then move into position to get rid of those larvae. If only the drone itself could be equipped with these destructive tools as well, it would make life a whole lot easier – and more of a video game for those drone controllers. Experiments of the Maveric drone in action will take place later this month.

What It Looks Inside You When a Mosquito Bites You

This is a video of a mosquito inserting itself into the flesh of a mouse in search of some blood. Scientists were able to watch the entire process through a microscope to see how a mosquito bites down. It’s kinda freaky how flexible the needle can get.

Mostrap Reels Mosquitos in and Zaps Them Before They Get a Chance to Bite You

Mosquitoes suck. They’re hard to kill (especially if you have bad hand-to-eye coordination) and they can infect us humans with potentially life-threatening diseases.

A project called Kite was launched recently on Indiegogo, which is essentially a patch that makes people “invisible” from mosquitoes. (It has surpassed its goal several times over, so that’s great news for all the people in Uganda who are going to get free patches, too!) But aside from warding the insects away, it would be best to get rid of them, especially if you’re constantly being bitten at home.

    Mostrap

I’m aware that mosquito zappers – the ones that emit the bluish-violet light – are already in existence. I have one but it doesn’t really do its job well. A neat alternative is the Mostrap, and it would be neater if it actually existed and wasn’t just a concept.

    Mostrap1

The Mostrap is a mosquito-killing machine that circulates a mixture of yeast and carbon dioxide in its chamber. Apparently, mosquitoes find their way to humans because we exhale carbon dioxide. Once the mosquito flies into the Mostrap, they’re zapped into oblivion and lie dead in the bottom of the chamber.

Pretty cool, huh? The Mostrap was designed by Vishakan Shivasubramaniam.

Kite Patch Keeps Mosquitoes (and the Diseases They Carry) Away

Those evil mosquitoes just keep on biting. They’re carriers of deadly diseases like dengue fever and malaria and every day, kids get bites that could turn out to be fatal. There are a lot of anti-mosquito and anti-insect lotions and sprays being sold, but they’re a cause for concern sometimes to parents who worry about slathering their kids in repellents that contain DEET.

Then along came Kite. Kite is a patch that is supposed to be stuck on the person’s clothing. Once it’s there, it can make the wearer “invisible” to mosquitoes for up to 48 hours. Unlike most conventional mosquito repellants, Kite uses non-toxic compounds that interrupt the mosquito’s ability to find people through carbon dioxide detection.

The technology was developed by Olfactor Laboratories and the University of California with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

A project to send Kite patches to Uganda is currently up for funding on Indiegogo, and has already generated more than 3.5 times its goal with over a month left to raise funds.

LG’s Anti-Mosquito Air Conditioner: Death to All Bloodsuckers!

If there’s one thing that I despise, it’s mosquitoes. The thing is that if they get into my bedroom or apartment, they will suck on my blood relentlessly, leaving everyone else alone. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I need the LG Anti-Mosquito Air Conditioner.

    anti mosquito air conditioner

This LG Anti-Mosquito AC was designed for the African market, like in Nigeria were malaria is still a major threat to life. Since mosquitoes are carriers of this disease, it makes sense trying to get rid of as many as possible. The AC uses ultrasonic wave technology which is supposed to repel mosquitoes. According to LG’s tests, the AC has a success rate of 64% when it comes to deterring malaria-transmitting anopheles mosquitoes in 24 hours. Overall, it manages to repel 82% of mozzies. The unit has also been designed to deal with power fluctuations and brownouts prevalent in some African countries.

While it’s primarily targeted at Africa, I could see this being useful in any warm and humid climate where mosquitoes like to breed.

How to Keep Mosquitoes Out of Your Yard [Homemod]

I have had it with these motherf*cking mosquitoes at these motherf*cking outdoor dinner parties.
